WHEAT

- May 20 - Syria's Hoboob seeks 200,000 MT of soft wheat for shipment in July-August

- May 19 - Jordan seeks 120,000 MT of optional-origin hard milling wheat for October-November shipment

- Australia and Russia have agreed to supply a total of 500,000 MT of wheat (400,000 MT from Australia and 100,000 MT from Russia) to Ethiopia for $150 million, on a state to state level agreement. Ukrainian government as well was requested to enter into the agreement

- UN aid agency recently purchased around 80,000 MT of milling wheat, likely Ukrainian, for donation to Sudan. About 40,000 MT is to be shipped by the end of May and 40,000 MT by the first half of July

- May 14 - Tunisia's state grains agency bought 67,000 MT of optional-origin soft wheat:

  • 25,000 MT from Olam at 209.72 $/mt c&f for July 5-15 shipment;
  • 17,000 MT from Casillo at 212.89 $/mt c&f for July 5-15 shipment;
  • 25,000 MT from GrainCorp at 206.89 $/mt c&f for July 15-25 shipment

- Tunisia expects cereal harvest to drop by a third this year, to 1.57 MMT from 2.4 MMT last year. Its cereal import requirements in the 2020/21 season will rise by 20% to 3.8 MMT

- May 12 - Algeria's OAIC bought about 500,000 MT of optional-origin milling wheat at around 218-218.5 $/mt c&f for July 16-August 15 shipment

- May 12 - South Korea's Major Feedmill Group (MFG) purchased 67,000 MT of feed wheat from Glencore at 208.9 $/mt c&f including a surcharge for additional port unloading for October 30 arrival

- Russia has sent 25,000 MT of wheat in humanitarian aid to North Korea

- Strategie Grains raised its forecast of 2019/20 EU soft wheat exports to 34.3 MMT, up from its previous projection of 32.4 MMT in April. They lowered its projection of EU soft wheat stocks at the end of 2019/20 on June 30 to 12.6 MMT from 13.7 MMT. Strategie Grains lowered its forecast of EU 2020 soft wheat crop to 132.9 MMT from 135 MMT previously (146.4 MMT in 2019)

- EU this season in period of July 1-May 17, 2019/20 exported 30.256 MMT of soft wheat compared to 18.415 MMT a year ago

- MARS cut its forecast of the average soft wheat yield in the EU this year to 5.72 t/ha from 5.87 t/ha last month

- Romania's wheat output is expected to fall sharply this year due to a prolonged drought. Romania harvested a record wheat crop of about 10 MMT last year, and farmers and traders now expect it to reap about 5 to 7.4 MMT. Romania's domestic consumption ranges from 2.5 to 3 MMT, leaving an export surplus of 2 to 4.9 MMT

- Morocco extended its suspension of import duties on soft wheat to December 31, to ensure price stability and regular supply amid low domestic output. Morocco expects a cereal output of 3 MMT (incl. 1.65 MMT of soft wheat, 0.75 MMT of durum and 0.5 MMT of barley), down 42% from last season

- Buenos Aires Grains Exchange expects Argentine 2020/21 wheat production at a record 21 MMT

- Russian farmers have sown 8 million ha of spring wheat or 65.5% of planned area as of May 18 vs. 5.6 million ha a year ago

- Ukraine's Ag Min said Ukraine exported about 52.73 MMT of grain between July 1-May 18, 2019/20 vs. 45.07 MMT for the same period of last year, including 19.773 MMT of wheat (14.738 MMT a year ago), 27.489 MMT of corn (27.352 MMT) and 4.784 MMT of barley (3.47 MMT)

CORN

- China will impose anti-dumping and anti-subsidy duties on barley imports from Australia totalling 80.5% starting May 19

- May 14 - Algeria's ONAB bought 40,000 MT of Argentine corn at around 170 $/mt c&f for July 1-15 shipment

- May 14 - Turkey's TMO bought 155,000 MT of corn for May 22-June 10 shipment:

  • 25,000 MT from Glencore at 188.17 $/mt c&f Iskenderun;
  • 25,000 MT from Glencore at 188.32 $/mt c&f Bandirma;

- May 6 - Egypt's GASC bought 60,000 MT of soybean oil at 623.5 $/mt c&f from Hakan Agro (30,000 MT) and ADM (30,000 MT) for July 10-30 arrival, but made no purchase of sunflower oil

- May 5 - USDA announced export sales of 378,000 MT of US soybeans for delivery to China during 2019/20 (136,000 MT) and 2020/21 (242,000 MT)

- NOPA said its members crushed a bigger-than-expected 171.754 million bushels of soybeans during April (170.483 million bu – average expectations, 163-177 – range). NOPA processors crashed 181.374 mln bu in March and 159.990 mln bu a year ago. Soyoil stocks rose to 2.111 billion lbs as of April 30 from 1.899 a month earlier, above the last year’s level of 1.787 billion lbs, and ahead of average expectations of 2.031 billion lbs. Soymeal exports in April fell to 890,931 tons from 973,741 tons in March and vs. 763,203 tons a year-ago

- Brazilian soybean exports in April reached 16.3 MMT, an all-time record for a single month and an increase from 9.4 MMT in same month last year. Brazilian soybean industry association Anec expects May soybean exports at 11.9 MMT

- China's Ag Min expects 2020 soybean output to increase 4% year-on-year to 18.82 MMT (18.1 MMT in 2019). China is expected to rise its soybean imports in 2020/21 to 93.6 MMT (91 MMT in 2019/20)

- China imported 6.714 MMT of soybeans in April, down 12% from the year before. For the first four months of 2020, imports rose to 24.506 MMT, up 0.5% from the same time a year ago

- China's imports of all vegetable oils in April was 664,000 MT up 27.7% on year. China's Jan-Apr vegetable oil imports fell 5.2% on year to 2.352 MMT

- Malaysia will cut its crude palm oil export tax to 0% in June, down from 4.5% in May. Malaysia calculated a reference price of 2,122.77 MYR/mt for June

- Russian farmers have sown 6.2 million ha of sunflower or 76.5% of planned area as of May 18 vs. 6 million ha a year ago
