- Oct 17 - Japan seeks 115,835 MT of food wheat for Nov-Jan shipments:

  • 16,475 MT of western white US wheat;
  • 19,115 MT of hard red winter US wheat;
  • 50,400 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat;

- Oct 16 - Egypt's GASC bought 405,000 MT of wheat from Russia (285 TMT), France (60 TMT) and Ukraine (60 TMT) for November 21-30 shipment:

  • 55,000 MT of Russian wheat from Cargill at 229.42 $/mt c&f (212.5 fob+16.92 freight);
  • 60,000 MT of Ukrainian wheat from Hakan Agro at 230.2 $/mt c&f (210.9 fob+19.3 freight);
  • 60,000 MT of Russian wheat from Garant Logistics at 230.45 $/mt c&f (214.95 fob+15.5 freight);
  • 55,000 MT of Russian wheat from Hakan Agro at 230.77 $/mt c&f (213.85 fob+16.92 freight);

- Egypt has enough strategic wheat reserves to cover its needs until February, 2020

- Weekly US wheat export sales data for week ended Oct 10 totaled 395,100 MT for 2019/20, within market expectations (250-550 TMT). Export commitments for 2019/20 are running 14% ahead of year-ago

- Ukraine's Ag Min said Ukraine exported about 16.106 MMT of grain between July 1-Oct 18, 2019 vs. 11.442 MMT for the same period of last year, including 10.062 MMT of wheat (6.839 MMT a year ago), 2.756 MMT of corn (2.006 MMT) and 3.054 MMT of barley (2.357 MMT)

- Ukrainian farms have sown as of Oct 18 a total of 6.2 million hectares of winter grains for the 2019 harvest, or 86% of the expected area of 7.3 million, incl. 5.379 million hectares of winter wheat and 737,700 hectares of winter barley

- Russian farmers as of Oct 18 have harvested 77.4 MMT of wheat from 27.4 million ha (97.8% of planted area) with the average yield of 2.82 mt/ha (2.78 mt/ha a year ago)

- Strategie Grains raised its forecast of EU 2019 soft wheat crop to 145.5 MMT from 144.5 MMT previously, up 14.5% versus last year (127.1 MMT in 2018). They upped forecast of 2019/20 EU soft wheat exports by 1.6 MMT to 27.3 MMT

- FranceAgriMer estimated winter wheat planting 21% done as of October 14, behind of last year’s pace of 32%

CORN

- Oct 17 - China sold 110,354 MT of corn from state reserves, or 3.1% of the offered amount (3.516 MMT), at average price of 1,706 RMB/mt. So, so far a total of 21.91 MMT of the country’s auctioned off from May 23, from a total of 80.59 MMT offered, all coming from the 2014 and 2015 harvests

- Oct 16 - USDA announced export sales of 228,600 MT of US corn for delivery to Mexico during 2019/20 (137,160 MT) and 2010/21 (91,440 MT)

- Weekly US corn export sales data for week ended Oct 10 totaled 368,500 MT, incl. 368,600 MT for 2019/20 below expectations (400-800 TMT). Export commitments for 2019/20 are running 51% behind of year-ago

- Japan's use of corn in animal feed totalled 48.8% in August 2019, down by 0.2% point from prior month but up by 1.0% point from year-ago level (47.8% in Aug 2018). Its use of barley steadied at 3.5% (3.5% a year ago); while wheat usage left at 1.6% (1.7% year-ago). Sorghum usage in feed rations unchanged from prior month at 1.8% (2.4% in Aug 2018)     

- Ukrainian farmers have harvested 17.676 MMT of corn from 54.1% area with the average yield of 6.57 mt/ha as of Oct 18

- Russian farmers as of Oct 18 have harvested 8 MMT of corn from 1.4 million ha (52.8% of planted area) with the average yield of 5.86 mt/ha (4.62 mt/ha a year ago)

- Russian farmers as of Oct 18 have harvested 21.4 MMT of barley from 8.5 million ha (96.3% of planted area) with the average yield of 2.53 mt/ha (2.24 mt/ha a year ago)

- Strategie Grains raised its forecast of EU 2019 barley crop to 61.7 MMT from 61 MMT previously, 10.8% above the 2018/19 crop (55.7 MMT)

- Strategie Grains lowered its forecast of EU 2019 corn crop to 63.6 MMT from 63.8 MMT previously, a 2.9% increase on 2018/19 (61.8 MMT)

- FranceAgriMer estimated France’s corn condition as of October 14 as 58% in good to excellent, down 1% point from prior week, but above the year-ago score of 57%. French farmers harvested 30% of corn as of Oct 14 vs. 14% a week ago and 81% a year ago
