WHEAT

- May 21 - Taiwan Flour Millers' Association seeks 111,050 MT of US milling wheat in two consignments: 56,350 MT for July 5-19 and 54,700 MT for July 20-August 3 shipments

- May 15 - Tunisia's state grains agency bought 75,000 MT of optional-origin soft wheat:

  • 25,000 MT of soft milling wheat from Glencore at 200.10 $/mt c&f for July 5-15;
  • 25,000 MT of soft milling wheat from Lecureur at 199.50 $/mt c&f for July 15-25;
  • 25,000 MT of soft milling wheat from ADM at 195.02 $/mt c&f for July 25-Aug 5

- May 15 - Japan bought 425 MT of feed wheat for Oct 31 arrival via SBS-tender. New SBS tender for 120,000 MT of feed wheat and 200,000 MT of feed barley will be held on May 22

- May 14 - Algeria's OAIC bought 510,000 MT of optional-origin milling wheat in a tender at 208-211 $/mt c&f for July shipment from Cargill (150 TMT), Invivo (120 TMT), Lecureur (90 TMT), Glencore (60 TMT), Cofco (60 TMT), CAM (30 TMT)

- May 14 - Jordan has made no purchase in an international tender for 120,000 MT of optional-origin hard milling wheat and re-tender on May 21

- Ethiopia provisionally bought 400,000 MT of wheat in tender which closed on April 19 from GemCorp at prices ranged from 244.34 to 249.34 $/mt c&f. Shipment is two months after the contract award

- US wheat export inspections for week, ending May 9, recorded 842,418 MT, topped trade expectations (400-600 TMT). Inspections for 2018/19 are running 0.4% ahead of year-ago

- USDA reports 64% of the winter wheat crop is in good to excellent condition as of May 12, unchanged from prior week and matching analyst expectations, but well above last year's 36%. USDA said spring wheat was 45% planted, above an average of analysts' forecasts of 35%, but behind the five-year average of 67% and last year's 54%

- Informa Economics estimated total US wheat plantings for 2019 at 45.284 million acres and all-wheat production at 1.902 billion bushels

- Iraq has bought 600,000 MT of domestic wheat so far from local farmers in this year's harvest

- Egypt has so far bought 1.6 MMT of wheat from farmers. Egypt expects to procure about 3.6 MMT of wheat from its farmers during the current season, which began on April 15

- German’s state statistics office estimated winter wheat area planted for the summer 2019 harvest at 3.03 million hectares, 5% higher on the year     

- Germany's association of farm cooperatives lowered its forecast of country’s 2019 wheat crop to 24.28 MMT from 24.44 MMT in April, a 19.8% increase from last year

- France's farm ministry put the soft wheat sowing area for this year's harvest at 5.019 million hectares, up 2.9% from 2018 and nearly 0.2% below the average of the past five years

- FranceAgriMer cut its forecast for French soft wheat stocks at the end of the 2018/19 to 2.291 MMT from 2.396 MMT projected last month (2.984 MMT in 2017/18). Projected exports outside the EU was upped from 9.7 to 9.75 MMT, up 20.1% from 8.117 MMT in 2017/18, while forecast of shipments within the EU was lifted from 7.423 to 7.428 MMT, down 19.9% from 9.268 MMT in 2017/18

CORN

- May 23 - China will begin an auction of corn from state reserves; a total of 4 MMT of corn will be offered for sale

- Indian state-run trading company MMTC has again postponed the offer deadline in an international tender for non-GM yellow corn now from May 15 to May 22. Offers must remain valid until June 7 vs. May 31 previously. The shipment period has been changed to June 15-July 15 from June 10-July 10 previously

- May 16 - Taiwan's MFIG seeks 65,000 MT of corn from the US, Brazil, Argentina or South Africa for July 25-Aug 28

- May 15 - Tunisia's state grains agency bought 50,000 MT of optional-origin feed barley for Sept 25-Oct 5 shipment:

  • 25,000 MT from Glencore at 192.68 $/mt c&f;
  • 25,000 MT from Cofco at 193.19 $/mt c&f

- May 14 - Argentina registered 991,000 MT of corn for export

- US corn export inspections for week, ending May 9, reported 1,000,762 MT, within trade estimates (0.85-1.1 MMT). Inspections for 2018/19 are running 5.3% ahead of year-ago

- USDA said the US corn crop was 30% planted by May 12, well behind the five-year average of 66% and last year's 59%, also below an average of analysts' forecasts of 35%

- Informa Economics projected US 2019 corn plantings at 90.692 million acres and corn production at 14.76 billion bushels based on a yield of 177.0 bu/acre

- Ukraine's Ag Min said Ukraine exported about 44.36 MMT of grain between July 1-May 15, 2018/19 vs. 35.3 MMT for the same period of last season, including 14.62 MMT of wheat (15.6 MMT a year ago), 25.58 MMT of corn (15.32 MMT) and 3.42 MMT of barley (4.19 MMT)

- Ukrainian farmers have sown 3.6 million ha of corn or 77% of planned area as of May 13

- German’s state statistics office estimated winter barley area planted for the summer 2019 harvest at 1.36 million hectares, up 12.1% over a year-ago

- Germany's association of farm cooperatives raised its forecast of country’s 2019 corn crop to 4.35 MMT (4.28 MMT previously), a 30.2% increase from last year

- Germany's association of farm cooperatives forecasted the country’s 2019 winter barley crop at 9.78 MMT (9.92 MMT – previous forecast in April), up 32.8% from last year; and spring barley crop at 2.11 MMT (2.09 MMT – previous forecast), down 4.1% from 2018

- France's farm ministry estimates France's 2019 grain maize area, excluding crop grown for seeds, at 1.427 million ha, up 4.9% versus 2018 but 3.8% below the average of the previous five years

- France's farm ministry projected the all-barley area at 1.906 mln ha, up 7.9% vs. 2018 and up 3.7% from five-year average

- FranceAgriMer raised its forecast for French corn stocks at the end of the 2018/19 to 2.709 MMT from 2.567 MMT in Apr and vs. 2.549 MMT in 2017/18. France's 2018/19 corn exports are forecasted at 4.25 MMT unchanged from April estimate but down vs. 5.316 MMT a year ago

- FranceAgriMer lowered its forecast of France's 2018/19 barley ending stocks to 1.627 MMT from 1.696 MT in Apr (1.514 MMT in 2017/18). France's 2018/19 barley exports (without malt) is expected at 6.069 MMT (6.024 MMT – previous forecast) up 1% from year-ago (5.992 MMT in 2017/18)

SOYBEAN

- May 14 - Argentina registered for export 1.592 MMT of soymeal and 237,042 MT of soybeans

- May 14 - USDA announced export sales of 180,000 MT of US soybeans for delivery to unknown destinations during 2018/19

- US soybean export inspections for week, ending May 9, reported 513,375 MT, within trade expectations (450-700 TMT). Inspections for the 2018/19 marketing year are running 27% behind of year-ago

- USDA said 9% of the US soybean crop was planted as of May 12, behind of market forecasts (15%) and compared to 32% last year and a 29% five-year average

- Informa Economics projected US 2019 soybean plantings at 86.437 million acres and corn production at 4.392 billion bushels based on a yield of 51.2 bu/acre

- Ukrainian farmers have sown 4.4 million ha of sunflower or 77% of planned area as of May 13

- Ukrainian farmers have sown 810,000 ha of soybeans or 44% of planned area as of May 13

- German’s state statistics office estimated winter rapeseed area sowed for the summer 2019 harvest at 886,000 hectares, down 27.5% from year-ago
