WHEAT

- Jan 22 - Jordan seeks 120,000 MT of optional-origin hard milling wheat for Apr-May shipment

- Jan 17 - Japan bought 111,961 MT of food wheat for Feb-Mar shipments:

  • 11,680 MT of western white US wheat;
  • 13,446 MT of dark northern spring US wheat;
  • 27,845 MT of hard red winter US wheat;
  • 34,650 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat;
  • 24,340 MT of Australian standard white wheat

- Feed mills in the Philippines bought 85,000 MT of feed wheat earlier this week: 50,000 MT from the US at below 260 $/mt c&f and 35,000 MT from Australia at 285 $/mt c&f for shipment in the first half of April

- EU in week ended Jan 11 awarded licenses to import 15,516 MT of Ukrainian wheat under an annual duty-free quota. The award meant that the EU had now awarded 67.4% (704,777 MT) out of a total volume of 1,045,000 MT available in 2019

- Strategie Grains lowered its forecast of EU 2019 soft wheat crop to 146.4 MMT from 147 MMT previously, up 15% versus last year (127.1 MMT in 2018). They lowered forecast of 2018/19 EU soft wheat exports by 0.5 MMT to 18.5 MMT; but in 2019/20 exports may rise by at least 6 MMT

- Buenos Aires Grains Exchange raised its estimate of Argentine 2018/19 wheat production to 19.0 MMT from 18 MMT previously (17.75 MMT in 2017/18). Harvesting of Argentine wheat crop was 100% completed as of Jan 16

- Russia plans regulate domestic grain prices

- Bulgaria's July-Oct 2018 wheat exports are estimated at 2.367 MMT, down 14.1% from year-ago

- The EU will impose tariffs on rice from Cambodia and Myanmar for 3 years to curb a surge in imports. From Jan 18 it will set a duty of 175 euros per tonne of rice in the first year, dropping to 150 euros in the second and 125 euros in year three

- ADM has agreed to buy the remaining 50% stake in British grain merchant Gleadell it does not already own from French co-operative InVivo

CORN

- Indonesia's state procurement agency Bulog has delayed the offer deadline in an international tender to buy 30,000 MT of corn to Jan 18

- Jan 17 - South Korea's KFA (Korea Feed Association) in a private deal bought 60,000 MT of optional-origin corn from Posco Daewoo at 208.20 $/mt c&f + 1.00 $/mt surcharge for additional port unloading for May 10 arrival

- Jan 16 - South Korea's Major Feedmill Group (MFG) in a private deal bought 69,000 MT of optional-origin corn from Dreyfus at 206.35 $/mt c&f + 1.25 $/mt surcharge for additional port unloading for May 27 arrival

- Strategie Grains lowered its forecast of EU 2019 corn crop to 62.4 MMT from 62.9 MMT previously, up 4% versus last year (60 MMT in 2018)

- Strategie Grains upped its forecast of EU 2019 barley crop to 61.8 MMT from 61.5 MMT previously, up 11% versus last year (55.8 MMT in 2018)

- Buenos Aires Grains Exchange raised its estimate of Argentine 2018/19 barley production to 4.1 MMT from 3.8 MMT previously (3.5 MMT in 2017/18). Harvesting of Argentine barley crop was 100% completed as of Jan 16

- Japan's use of corn in animal feed totalled 47.8% in November 2018, unchanged from prior month and by 0.6% point above year-ago level (47.2% in Nov 2017). Its use of barley steady at 3.4% vs. 3.5% a year ago; wheat usage also steady at 1.8% (1.8% year-ago). Sorghum usage in feed rations left at 2.2%, up vs. 2.1% in Nov 2017

- Bulgaria's Sept-Oct 2018 corn exports are estimated at 380,000 MT, down 20.1% from year-ago

- Bulgaria's July-Oct 2018 barley exports are estimated at 99,800 MT, down 55.7% from year-ago

SOYBEAN

- Jan 18 - South Korea’s Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp bought 4,000 MT of non-GM soybeans from US for May 15-June 20, 2020 arrival

- Celeres cut its 2018/19 Brazilian soybean harvest projection to 117.2 MMT, down nearly 5 MMT from the previous forecast

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange cut forecast of Argentina’s 2018/19 soy planting area by 200,000 hectares to 17.7 million ha, unchanged from the previous crop year. About 98.8% of the crop has been planted as of Jan 16

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange forecasts Argentine 2018/19 sunflower crop at 3.9 MMT, up 11.4% on year (3.5 MMT in 2017/18). Harvesting of Argentine sunflower crop was 20.5% completed as of Jan 16

- Bulgaria's Sept-Oct 2018 sunflower exports are estimated at 95,300 MT, down 51.5% from year-ago score

- Bulgaria's July-Oct 2018 rapeseed exports are estimated at 324,600 MT, down 13.6% from year-ago

- GAPKI expects Indonesia's 2019 crude palm oil output to rise by 10% MMT from last year’s level

- MPOB expects Malaysia's palm oil exports to rise to 17.2 MMT in 2019 (16.5 MMT in 2018). Total production is also forecast to grow by 4% to 20.3 MMT this year compared to 19.5 MMT recorded in 2018. The average price of crude palm oil is expected to rebound to over 2,500 MYR/mt (609 $/mt) in 2019

- Malaysia plans to double palm oil use in biodiesel by 2020

- Cargill Inc will invest some $200 million in Pakistan over the coming three to five years in sectors ranging from dairy, to edible oils and animal feed
