WHEAT

- Jan 9 - Egypt’s GASC seeks an unspecified amount of wheat from global suppliers for Feb 20-28 and/or March 1-10 shipments

- Jan 9 - Tunisia's state grains agency bought 100,000 MT of optional-origin durum wheat in four 25,000 MT consignments with the lowest price at 293.65 $/mt c&f (Casillo), then at 294.09 $/mt c&f (Glencore), 295.49 $/mt c&f (Casillo) and 295.69 $/mt c&f (Mediterraneo) for February 15-March 25 shipment

- Jan 9 - Taiwan Flour Millers' Association bought 111,650 MT of US milling wheat from CHS in two consignments:

  • The first consignment has an additional charge of 27.88 $/mt for ocean shipping from the US Pacific North West coast to Taiwan for shipment between Feb 23-Mar 9:
    • 27,190 MT of dark northern spring wheat (14.5% protein) at 251.18 $/mt fob;
    • 20,785 MT of hard red winter wheat (12.5% protein) at 253.03 $/mt fob;
    • 7,850 MT of soft white wheat (9% protein) at 237.14 $/mt fob.
  • The second consignment has an additional charge of 28.31 $/mt for ocean shipping from the US Pacific North West coast to Taiwan for shipment between Mar 11-25:
    • 29,230 MT of dark northern spring wheat (14.5% protein) at 253.03 $/mt fob;
    • 20,795 MT of hard red winter wheat (12.5% protein) at 254.88 $/mt fob;
    • 5,800 MT of soft white wheat (9% protein) at 237.14 $/mt fob

- Jan 9 - Jordan has made no purchase in an international tender for 120,000 MT of optional-origin hard milling wheat

- Jan 8 - The lowest offer in Bangladesh’s tender for 50,000 MT of wheat came in at 290.94 $/mt c&f liner out from Swiss Singapore Overseas. Other offers were: Aston – 294.47 $/mt, Agrocorp – 298.19 $/mt

- Jan 8 - Algeria's OAIC bought 550,000 MT of wheat in a tender at 261.5-262 $/mt c&f for February-March shipment from Lecureur (120 TMT), Transgrain (100 TMT), Cargill (210 TMT), Cofco (120 TMT)

- Algeria rejected a wheat shipment from Argentina that was below contractual quality standards

- US wheat export inspections for week, ending Jan 3, recorded 260,134 MT, below trade expectations (350-600 TMT). Inspections for 2018/19 are running 12.5% behind of year-ago

- EU this season in period of July 1-Jan 6, 2018/19 exported 8.426 MMT of soft wheat compared to 11.265 MMT a year ago

- France exported 1.26 MMT of soft wheat in November, the fifth month of the 2018/19 marketing season, including 683,000 MT of soft wheat shipped outside the EU (incl. 550 TMT to Algeria). Cumulative French soft wheat exports in July-November reached 6.31 MMT, up 3% from the same period last year. Shipments outside the EU were up 26% at 3.48 MMT, of which 2.82 MMT, or 81%, to Algeria

- FranceAgriMer raised its forecast for French soft wheat stocks at the end of the 2018/19 to 2.773 MMT from 2.672 MMT projected last month (2.986 MMT in 2017/18). Projected exports outside the EU was lowered from 8.8 to 8.7 MMT, up 7.2% from 8.117 MMT in 2017/18, while forecast of shipments within the EU was upped from 7.687 to 7.727 MMT, down 16.6% from 9.268 MMT in 2017/18

- Ukraine exported 1.1 MMT of wheat in December 2018, down 13.1% on year (1.26 MMT in Dec 2017)

CORN

- Jan 9 - Japan received no offers for 120,000 MT of feed wheat and 200,000 MT of feed barley in a simultaneous buy and sell (SBS) auction. New SBS tender for the same amounts for each grain will be held on January 16

- US corn export inspections for week, ending Jan 3, reported 501,541 MT, below market expectations (0.65-1 MMT). Inspections for 2018/19 are running 61.3% ahead of year-ago

- Indonesia's state food procurement agency Bulog may import an additional 30,000 MT of corn. Trade Ministry is currently processing the import permits, which will be valid until the end of March. Bulog said last week it has 53,000 MT of corn stock at the end of 2018

- EU this season in period of July 1-Jan 6, 2018/19 imported 11.732 MMT of corn (maize) vs. 7.929 MMT a year ago

- EU this season in period of July 1-Jan 6, 2018/19 exported 936,420 MT of corn vs. 662,521 MT a year ago

- EU this season in period of July 1-Jan 6, 2018/19 exported 2.7 MMT of barley vs. 2.654 MMT a year ago

- FranceAgriMer lifted its forecast for French corn stocks at the end of the 2018/19 to 1.956 MMT from 1.923 MMT in Dec and vs. 2.549 MMT in 2017/18. France's 2018/19 corn exports are forecasted at 4.663 MMT up from 4.643 MMT in Dec but down vs. 5.316 MMT a year ago

- FranceAgriMer raised its forecast of France's 2018/19 barley ending stocks to 1.287 MMT from 1.097 MT in Dec (1.514 MMT in 2017/18). France's 2018/19 barley exports (without malt) is expected at 6.4 MMT (6.56 MMT – previous forecast) up 7% from 5.992 MMT a year ago

- Ukraine exported 3.26 MMT of corn in Dec 2018, up 45.2% from last year (2.25 MMT in Dec 2017)

- Ukraine exported 121 TMT of barley in Dec 2018, up 68.6% on year (72 TMT in Dec 2017)

SOYBEAN

- Jan 10 - South Korea's NOFI seeks about 62,000 MT of animal feed meals for February-May arrival: 10,000 MT of rapeseed meal, 21,000 MT of palm kernel expellers, 19,000 MT of copra meal and 12,000 MT of corn gluten feed

- US soybean export inspections for week, ending Jan 3, reported 673,172 MT, within trade estimates (500-850 TMT). Inspections for the 2018/19 marketing year are running 41.6% behind of year-ago

- Chinese importers bought at least 3 cargoes of US soybeans on Monday, Jan 7, or about 180,000 MT. One trader said the total was closer to 15 cargoes, or about 900,000 MT for shipments mostly from terminals in the Pacific Northwest from January through March

- China has approved the import of five genetically modified crops: RF3 canola (Bayer/BASF), MON 88302 canola (Monsanto), DP4114 corn (DuPont Pioneer), SYHT0H2 soybean (Syngenta) and DAS-44406-6 soybean (Dow AgroSciences)
