- Aug 31 - Taiwan Flour Millers' Association seeks 110,500 MT of US milling wheat for Oct 15-Nov 15 shipment

- Aug 24 - Tunisia's state grains agency bought 50,000 MT of soft wheat, 11.5% protein, for October shipment:

  • 25,000 MT of soft milling wheat from Olam at 238.25 $/mt c&f;
  • 25,000 MT of soft milling wheat from Dreyfus at 238.6 $/mt c&f

- Aug 23 - Japan bought 167,787 MT of food wheat for Oct shipments:

  • 37,285 MT of western white US wheat;
  • 15,005 MT of hard red winter US wheat
  • 24,971 MT of dark northern spring US wheat;
  • 57,401 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat;
  • 33,125 MT of Australian standard white wheat

- Aug 24 - China auctioned 5,050 MT of imported 2013 wheat from state reserves, or 0.3% of the offered amount at average price of 2,242 RMB/mt (326 $/mt)

- Aug 23 - China auctioned 7,887 MT of imported 2013 wheat from state reserves, or 0.5% of the offered amount at average price of 2,293 RMB/mt (334 $/mt)

- Aug 22 - China auctioned 19,442 MT of imported 2013 wheat from state reserves, or 1.2% of the offered amount at average price of 2,244 RMB/mt (326 $/mt)

- Weekly US wheat export sales data for week ended August 16 totalled 239,800 MT for 2018/19 (below trade expectations for 450-850 TMT). Export commitments for 2018/19 are running 26% behind of year-ago

- Russia’s Ag Min said Russia exported 7.779 MMT of grain between July 1-August 22, 2018/19, up 42% from 5.469 MMT a year ago, including:

  • wheat – 6.39 MMT (1.7 times more from year ago);
  • barley – 1.003 MMT (down by 18.3%);
  • corn – 324,000 MT (down by 32.4%)

- Russia has 3,574,600 MT of grain in its federal intervention fund as of August 24 vs. 3,658,800 MT week ago and 3,982,600 MT year ago

- Russian farmers harvested 55,3 MMT of wheat as of Aug 24, down from 62.2 MMT a year ago, yields totalled 3.34 mt/ha down from 4.13 mt/ha year ago

- Sovecon said Russia could harvest 109.6 MMT of grain in 2018, including 68.8 MMT of wheat. SovEcon forecasts Russian 2018/19 grain exports at 43.7 MMT, including 33.9 MMT of wheat

- Agritel expects Russian wheat exports could fall to 31.5 MMT in 2018/19 from a record 42 MMT last season

- Ukraine's Ag Min said Ukraine exported 4.593 MMT of grain between July 1-Aug 22 2018/19 vs. 4.844 MMT for the same period last season, including:

  • wheat – 2.31 MMT (2.19 MMT a year ago);
  • corn – 1.04 MMT (1.0 MMT);
  • barley – 1.19 MMT (1.6 MMT)

- Ukrainian farmers have threshed 24.4 MMT of winter wheat from almost 100% of planned area with the average yield of 3.81 mt/ha as of Aug 22. They also harvested 659,000 MT of spring wheat from 95% of planned area with the average yield of 3.53 mt/ha

- German Ag Min said that Germany's 2018 winter wheat harvest would fall 19.1% from the 2017 level to 19.4 MMT

- China imported 140,000 MT of wheat in July, down 43% from a year ago. China's Jan-July wheat imports fell 27% on year to 2.09 MMT

- Argentina's Ag Min upped its forecast for wheat planted area in the 2018/19 crop year to 6.26 million hectares, from 6.2 million previously, up 6.1% from 5.9 mln ha in 2017/18

- International Grains Council (IGC) cut its forecast for global wheat production in 2018/19 by 4.6 MMT to 716.4 MMT (758 MMT in 2017/18), the lowest since the 2012/13, mostly reflecting lower perspectives this month for EU, Australia and Canada. Forecast of ending stocks was upped by 0.8 MMT to 248 MMT (266 MMT in 2017/18)

CORN

- Aug 24 - South Korea's KFA (Korea Feed Association) bought 61,000 MT of corn, likely from the US, from Posco Daewoo at 209.95 $/mt c&f + 0.85 $/mt surcharge for additional port unloading for January 15 arrival

- Aug 24 - Tunisia's state grains agency bought 50,000 MT of optional-origin feed barley from Glencore for October shipment: 25,000 MT at 251.48 $/mt c&f and 25,000 MT at 252.37 $/mt c&f

- Aug 24 - China sold 788,487 MT of corn from state reserves, or 19.8% of the offered amount, at average price of 1,439 RMB/mt (209 $/mt)

- Aug 23 - China sold 2,095,402 MT of corn from state reserves, or 52.6% of the offered amount, at average price of 1,548 RMB/mt (225 $/mt)

- Aug 22 - Japan received no offers for 120,000 MT of feed wheat and 200,000 MT of feed barley in a simultaneous buy and sell (SBS) auction. New SBS tender for the same amounts for each grain will be held on Aug 29

- Weekly US corn export sales data for week ended August 16 of 1,228,000 MT, incl. 173,400 MT for 2017/18 (below trade expectations of 200-500 TMT) and 1,054,600 MT for 2018/19 (topped expectations for 700-1000 TMT). Export commitments for 2017/18 are running 7% ahead of year-ago

- Pro Farmer estimates the US corn crop will total 14.501 billion bushels this year, with an average yield of 177.3 bpa, below the USDA's prediction on Aug 10 for 14.586 billion bushels with an average yield of 178.4 bpa

- China imported 330,000 MT of corn in July, down 63.7% from a year ago. Corn imports in the first seven months this year rose 54% to 2.54 MMT

- China's July 2018 barley imports fell 16.2% on year to 600,000 MT. Barley imports for the first 7 months of the year were at 5 MMT, down 4.5%

- China imported 220,000 MT of sorghum in July, down 62.5% on year. Sorghum imports for the first 7 months of the year were at 3.47 MMT, down 3%% from the same period of 2017

- Argentina's Ag Min lowered estimate of corn production by 300,000 MT to 43.3 MMT, down 12.5% from 2016/17 (49.5 MMT). Forecast of corn exports in 2017/18 (Mar 2018-Feb 2019) set at 24.5 MMT vs. 25.65 MMT in previous season. Argentina's Ag Min expects 2018/19 corn acreage at 9.35 mln ha, up 2.7% from 9.1 mln ha in 2017/18

- Argentina's Ag Min trimmed estimate of sorghum production by 10,000 MT to 1.55 MMT, down 38.7% from 2016/17 (2.53 MMT)

- Argentina's Ag Min raised its forecast for barley planted area in the 2018/19 crop year to 1.085 million hectares, from 1.08 million ha previously, up 8.5% from 1 mln ha in 2017/18

- Russian farmers harvested 12.1 MMT of barley as of Aug 24, down from 14.8 MMT a year ago, yields totalled 2.43 mt/ha vs. 3.1 mt/ha year ago

- FranceAgriMer estimated France’s corn condition as of Aug 19 as 61% in good to excellent, unchanged from prior week, but below the year-ago score of 80%

- German Ag Min said 2018 winter barley crop, used for animal feed, would fall 17.9% on the year to 7.4 MMT, while spring barley crop, used for beer and malt production, would rise 21% to 2.2 MMT

- IGC raised its forecast of the global corn crop in 2018/19 by 12.2 MMT to 1.064 billion tonnes (1.045 BMT in 2017/18), mostly reflecting better perspectives for the US, Argentina and Ukraine. IGC upped its forecast for 2018/19 global corn carryover by 7 MMT from July to 256.4 MMT vs. 297.4 MMT in 2017/18

SOYBEAN

- Aug 24 - USDA announced export sales of 146,000 MT of US soybeans for delivery to unknown destinations during 2018/19

- Aug 21 - USDA announced export sales of 250,000 MT of US soybean cake and meal for delivery to unknown destinations during 2018/19

- Aug 22 - China sold 74,666 MT of 2013 soybeans from state reserves, or 25.5% of the offered amount, at average price of 3,020 RMB/mt (439 $/mt)

- Aug 22 - China sold 13,021 MT of rapeseed oil from state reserves, or 21.5% of the offered amount, at average price of 6,038 RMB/mt (878 $/mt)

- Weekly US soybeans export sales data for week ended August 16 totalled 1,301,300 MT, incl. 152,700 MT for 2017/18 (within trade expectations of 100-300 TMT) and 1,148,600 MT for 2018/19 (topped trade expectations for 400-650 TMT). Export commitments for 2017/18 are running 3% behind of year-ago

- Weekly US soymeal export sales data for week ended August 16 of 321,800 MT, incl. 212,500 MT for 2017/18 and 109,300 MT for 2018/19, topped trade expectations. Export commitments for 2017/18 are running 21% ahead of year-ago

- Pro Farmer estimates the US soybean crop will total a record 4.683 billion bushels this year, with an average yield of 53 bpa, above the USDA's prediction on Aug 10 for 4.586 billion bushels with an average yield of 51.6 bpa

- IGC raised its forecast for 2018/19 global soybean production by 7.6 MMT to 366.4 MMT (338.4 MMT in 2017/18). IGC upped global 2018/19 soybean carryover to a record 51.4 MMT (42.4 MMT in 2017/18), up by 7 MMT from prior forecast

- Argentina's Ag Min upped forecast of soybean production by 300,000 MT to 37.78 MMT, down 31.3% from 2016/17 (55 MMT)

- Argentine July soybean crush was reported at 3.44 MMT, up 5% from 3.27 MMT in June but down 20% from last year. In the first seven months of the year, the country crushed 21.91 MMT of soybean vs. 25.71 MMT in the same period last year

- Stocks of soymeal at Argentine mills totals 1.425 MMT at the end of July 2018, down by 1.7% from a year-ago

- Stocks of soybean oil at Argentine mills totals 355,499 MT at the end of July 2018, up by 2.3% from a year-ago

- Argentine July sunflower crush was reported at 231,670 MT, down 12% from 262,815 MT in June and down 27% from last year. In the first seven months of the year, the country crushed 2.05 MMT of sunflower vs. 2.25 MMT in the same period last year

- Stocks of sunoil at Argentine mills totals 122,717 MT at the end of July 2018, up by 6.3% from a year-ago

- Stocks of sunflower meal at Argentine mills totals 70,901 MT at the end of July 2018, a 3,4% decrease from a year-ago

- German Ag Min estimates Germany's winter rapeseed harvest at 3.64 MMT, down 14.5% on the year

- Russian farmers harvested 517,200 MT of rapeseed as of Aug 24, up from 385,000 MT a year ago. Yields totalled 1.88 mt/ha vs. 2.18 mt/ha a year ago
