WHEAT

- Aug 23 - Japan seeks 167,787 MT of food wheat for Oct shipments:

  • 37,285 MT of western white US wheat;
  • 15,005 MT of hard red winter US wheat
  • 24,971 MT of dark northern spring US wheat;
  • 57,401 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat;
  • 33,125 MT of Australian standard white wheat

- Aug 21 - China auctioned 2,000 MT of imported 2013 wheat from state reserves, or 0.1% of the offered amount at average price of 2,370 RMB/mt (345 $/mt)

- Aug 20 - China auctioned 4,055 MT of imported 2013 wheat from state reserves, or 0.2% of the offered amount at average price of 2,350 RMB/mt (342 $/mt)

- US wheat export inspections for week, ending Aug 16, recorded 345,375 MT, below trade expectations. Inspections for 2018/19 are running 37.8% behind of year-ago

- USDA said the US winter wheat harvest was 97% complete as of Aug 19, lagging versus five-year average and last-year pace of 98%. USDA rated 74% of the US spring wheat crop in good-to-excellent condition as of Aug 19, down 1% point from prior week and behind of market expectation (75%), but significantly up compared to 34% a year-ago. The spring wheat harvest was 60% complete by Aug 19, ahead of 5-year mean (44%) and up vs. last year pace (55%)

- EU this season in period of July 1-Aug 19, 2018/19 exported 1.759 MMT of soft wheat compared to 2.91 MMT a year ago

- There are expectations that Russian exporters may step up grain shipments in the next few months in anticipation that the government could put curbs on exports sometime after December

- Russia plans to sell about 2 MMT of grain from state stockpiles in the 2018/19 marketing season that started on July 1. As of Aug 17, Russia held 3.656 MMT of grain in stockpiles vs. 3.755 MMT week ago and 3,985 MMT year ago

- Japan's July grain imports rose 4.7% on year to 2.028 MMT, incl. 1.534 MMT from the US (up by 4.2%)

- Kazakh Ag Min said Kazakhstan exported 741,900 MT of grain between July 1-31, 2018 vs. 537,400 MT a year ago, incl. flour – 228,700 MT in wheat equivalent vs. 223,100 MT in the same period of 2017/18. Kazakhstan exported 10.532 MMT of grain in 2017/18 (July-June) vs. 8.252 MMT in 2016/17

- Ukrainian farmers have threshed 24.3 MMT of winter wheat from almost 100% of planned area with the average yield of 3.8 mt/ha as of Aug 20. They also harvested 637,000 MT of spring wheat from 92% of planned area with the average yield of 3.52 mt/ha

CORN

- Aug 17 - Argentina registered 149,463 MT of malt for export

- US corn export inspections for week, ending Aug 16, reported 1,096,647 MT, below market expectations (1.2-1.4 MMT). Inspections for 2017/18 are running 0.3% behind of year-ago

- USDA rated 68% of the country’s corn in good or excellent condition as of Aug 19, down 2% points from prior week and slightly behind market forecasts (69%), but better than last year’s 62%

- EU this season in period of July 1-Aug 19, 2018/19 imported 1.68 MMT of corn (maize) vs. 2.109 MMT a year ago

- EU this season in period of July 1-Aug 19, 2018/19 exported 30,056 MT of corn vs. 55,857 MT a year ago

- EU this season in period of July 1-Aug 19, 2018/19 exported 938,290 MT of barley vs. 520,514 MT a year ago

- EU this season in period of July 1-Aug 19, 2018/19 exported 332,621 MT of malt in barley equivalent vs. 373,227 MT a year ago

- Japan's use of corn in animal feed totalled 48.5% in June 2018, down 0.2% point from prior month but by 1.7% points above year-ago level (46.8% in June 2017). Its use of barley kept at 3.5% unchanged from month and year ago; while wheat usage left at 1.7% (1.9% year-ago). Sorghum usage in feed rations rose to 2.3% in June from 2.1% in May 2018, up vs. 2.2% a year ago

- China reported another African swine fever outbreak over the weekend, the third in a month, stoking concerns on demand for the meat

- Ukrainian farmers have threshed 3.1 MMT of winter barley from 100% of planned area with the average yield of 3.53 mt/ha as of Aug 20. They also harvested 4.4 MMT of spring barley from 99% of planned area with the average yield of 2.75 mt/ha

- Ukrainian farmers have threshed 795,000 MT of peas from 98% of planned area with the average yield of 1.86 mt/ha as of Aug 20

SOYBEAN

- Aug 17 - Argentina registered for export 242,247 MT of soymeal and 74,149 MT of soybean oil

- US soybean export inspections for week, ending Aug 16, reported 639,001 MT, within trade estimates. Inspections for the 2017/18 marketing year are running 3.2% behind of year-ago

- USDA rated 65% of the country’s soybeans in good or excellent condition as of Aug 19, down 1% point from prior week and slightly behind analyst expectations (66%), but better than last year’s 60%

- China bought over 36 MMT of soybeans from South American countries during the May-August period this year

- Japan's July soybean imports rose 11.4% on year to 318,808 MT, incl. 170,460 MT from the US (up by 22.5%)

- EU this season in period of July 1-Aug 19, 2018/19 imported 1.74 MMT of soybeans vs. 2.006 MMT a year ago
