WHEAT

- Feb 21 - Syria's Hoboob is seeking 300,000 MT of soft wheat from Russia, Romania or Bulgaria for April-June shipment

- Feb 15 - Japan bought 84,683 MT of food wheat for Mar-Apr shipments:

  • 15,135 MT of western white US wheat;
  • 18,648 MT of dark northern spring US wheat;
  • 26,680 MT of hard red winter US wheat;
  • 24,220 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat

- Feb 14 - Argentina registered 95,606 MT of wheat for export

- Feb 13 - Jordan has made no purchase in an international tender for 100,000 MT of optional-origin milling wheat

- Feb 13 - China sold 279,935 MT of wheat from state reserves or 13.6% of the offered amount (2,057,764 MT) at auction at average price of 2,431 RMB/mt (384 $/mt)

- Feb 12 - The lowest offer in Iraq’s tender for 50,000 MT of hard wheat came in at 293.53 $/mt c&f for Australian wheat. Other offers were 308.50, 307.77 and 327.35 $/mt c&f. The US wheat offers were at 321.67 and 343.99 $/mt c&f. One offer was made for Canadian wheat at 303.52 $/mt c&f. The tender had requested wheat sourced from the US, Canada or Australia. The tender closed on Feb 11 and offers must remain valid up to Feb 15

- Iraq is concerned that dry weather will cut its 2018 wheat and barley production by as much as 20%

- US wheat export inspections for week, ending Feb 8, recorded 487,902 MT, within trade expectations (325-575 TMT). Inspections for 2017/18 are running 4% behind of year-ago

- Ukraine's Ag Min said Ukraine exported 25.12 MMT of grain between July 1-Feb 14 2017/18 vs. 27.73 MMT for the same period last season, including:

  • wheat – 12.58 MMT (vs. 13.08 MMT a year ago);
  • corn – 8.45 MMT (9.85 MMT);
  • barley – 3.98 MMT (4.59 MMT)

- ABARES raised its estimate of 2017/18 Australian wheat crop to 21.244 MMT from previous estimate of 20.27 MMT in Dec, down 38.2% from the record 34.369 MMT in 2016/17

- France's farm ministry lowered its estimate of the country's 2017 soft wheat crop to 36.59 MMT from 37.01 MMT forecasted in Dec with yields 7.37 mt/ha, up 32.8% from last year (27.56 MMT and 5.37 mt/ha in 2016) and 2.6% above the five-year average. The area sown with winter soft wheat for the 2018 harvest was estimated at 4.958 million hectares, virtually unchanged from last year's crop

- FranceAgriMer lowered its estimate of French soft wheat production in 2017/18 to 36.589 MMT from 37.01 MMT previously, up from 27.56 MMT in 2016/17. FranceAgriMer raised its forecast for French soft wheat stocks at the end of the 2017/18 to 3.251 MMT from 2.879 MMT projected last month (2.944 MMT in 2016/17). Projected exports outside the EU were lowered from 9.3 to 9.0 MMT, but up 81.1% from 4.971 MMT in 2016/17, while forecast of shipments within the EU was lowered from 8.607 to 8.452 MMT, up 35% from 6.259 MMT in 2016/17

- UK exported 24,566 MT of wheat in December, down from 53,539 MT in November and down 73.7% from a year-ago. Cumulative exports for the season, which started on July 1, 2017, totalled 272,479 MT vs. 1.07 MMT during the same period prior season

- UK imported 116,120 MT of wheat in December, down from 161,027 MT in November and down 33% from a year-ago. Britain’s Jul-Dec wheat imports totalled 856,994 MT vs. 840,094 MT a year ago

VEGETABLE OILS

- Feb 13 - Egypt’s GASC bought 35,000 MT of sunflower oil at 788.5 $/mt c&f (with facilities 180 days) from ADM (18,000 MT) and from Aston (17,000 MT) for Apr 1-15 arrival, but made no purchase of soybean oil

- Feb 12 - USDA announced cancellations of export sales of 455,000 MT of US soybeans for delivery to China during 2017/18

- Feb 12 - USDA announced export sales of 314,000 MT of US soybeans for delivery to unknown destinations during 2017/18 (198 TMT) and 2018/19 (116 TMT)

- US soybean export inspections for week, ending Feb 8, reported 1,319,038 MT, topped trade estimates (0.8-1.1 MMT). Inspections for the 2017/18 marketing year are running 13.5% behind of year-ago

- Dr. Michael Cordonnier lowered his forecast of Argentina’s 2017/18 soybean crop this week by 1 MMT to 50 MMT

- ABARES upped its estimate of 2017/18 Australian canola crop to 3.669 MMT from 2.852 MMT in Dec, down 14.9% from the 4.309 MMT in 2016/17

- France's farm ministry trimmed its estimate for 2017 French rapeseed output to 5.369 MMT from 5.377 MMT in Dec, up 13.4% from last year (4.733 MMT in 2016) and 5.6% above the five-year average. The ministry lowered estimate for the area sown with winter rapeseed this year to 1.495 million hectares from 1.537 mln ha in Dec, up 6.7% from last year

- France's farm ministry lowered its estimate of the country's 2017 sunflower seed crop to 1.619 MMT (1.631 MMT in Dec) with yields 2.76 mt/ha, up 36.7% from last year (1.184 MMT and 2.19 mt/ha in 2016) and 13.9% above the five-year average

- France's farm ministry lowered its estimate for 2017 French soybean crop to 411 TMT from 420 TMT in Dec with yields 2.92 mt/ha, up 20.5% from last year (341 TMT and 2.48 mt/ha in 2016) and 83.6% above the five-year average
