WHEAT

- Dec 13 - Jordan seeks 100,000 MT of optional-origin milling wheat

- Dec 8 - South Korea's Feed Leaders Committee rejected all offers in its snap tender to buy an unspecified amount of feed wheat from the Black Sea region. Prices were said to range between 215 to 220 $/mt c&f and FLC had interest only below 210 $/mt c&f

- SovEcon increased Russia's 2017 total grain production estimate to 134.3 MMT from 134.1 MMT previously, and wheat crop estimate by 300 TMT to 84.2 MMT. SovEcon kept its 2018 grain crop forecast unchanged at 128.2 MMT, including 76.7 MMT of wheat

- Russia’s Ag Min said Russia exported about 22.785 MMT of grain between July 1-Dec 6, 2017/18, up by 28.4% from 17.746 MMT a year ago, including:

  • wheat – 17.63 MMT (13.92 MMT in 2016/17);
  • barley – 3.152 MMT (1.761 MMT);
  • corn – 1.85 MMT (1.952 MMT);
  • others – 153 TMT (113 TMT)

- Russia has 3,967,600 MT of grain in its federal intervention fund as of Dec 8 vs. 3,832,800 MT a year-ago

- Preliminary Ag Min data showed that Ukraine harvested 62.3 MMT of grain by clean weight in 2017, including 26.1 MMT of wheat with yield of 4.1 mt/ha

- Ukraine exported 1.83 MMT of wheat in November 2017, up 37% on year. Ukraine's July-Nov 2017/18 wheat exports fell 0.8% on year to 10.02 MMT

- ABARES cut its forecast of 2017/18 Australian wheat export to 16.797 MMT from previous estimate of 18.153 MMT in Sept and below last year’s shipments of 22.057 MMT

- French soft wheat exports decreased in October to 951 TMT, slowing from 1.17 MMT in the previous month but ahead of last season's pace (685 TMT in Oct 2016). France exported 290 TMT of soft wheat outside the EU in October (incl. 130 TMT to Algeria), with Jul-Oct 2017/18 France's soft wheat shipments outside the EU at 2.03 MMT, up 11% on the year-earlier period. Soft wheat shipments to other EU countries totalled 661 TMT in October, taking the volume so far this season to 2.64 MMT, up 66% from a year earlier. Total French soft wheat exports so far this season were up 37% at 4.68 MMT (3.42 MMT in Jul-Oct 2016/17)

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange forecasts Argentine 2017/18 wheat crop at 17 MMT, up 1.2% from 2016/17 crop (16.8 MMT). Harvesting of Argentine wheat crop was 44.7% completed as of Dec 6, ahead of last year’s pace of 40.7%

- ED&F Man is reviewing its physical grains trading operations after a challenging year and may partially or entirely exit the business

CORN

- Dec 12 - Jordan seeks 100,000 MT of optional-origin feed barley

- Dec 11 - USDA announced export sales of 110,000 MT of US corn for delivery to Mexico during 2017/18

- Dec 11 - South Korea's Feed Leaders Committee (FLC) bought 68,000 MT of US or South American corn at 189.25 $/mt c&f for March

- Dec 8 - South Korea's Korea Feed Association bought around 61,000 MT of optional-origin corn at 189.8 $/mt c&f. It made no purchase in a second consignment of up to 65,000 MT

- Preliminary Ag Min data showed that Ukraine harvested around 25.2 MMT of corn by clean weight in 2017 with yield of 5.6 mt/ha

- Preliminary Ag Min data showed that Ukraine harvested around 8.3 MMT of barley by clean weight in 2017 with yield of 3.31 mt/ha

- Ukraine exported 1.58 MMT of corn in November 2017, down 30% on year. Ukraine's Sept-Nov 2017/18 corn exports fell 40% on year to 2.2 MMT

- Ukraine exported 168 TMT of barley in November 2017, down 44% on year. Ukraine's July-Nov 2017/18 barley exports fell 6% on year to 3.74 MMT

- China has more than doubled its purchases of Canadian barley, taking advantage of bargain prices for the beer ingredient due to abundant high-quality supplies in Canada. The extra sales come at the expense of Australia and Europe. Canadian exporters shipped 400,000 MT of barley to China from Aug 1 through October, up sharply from 158,000 MT a year earlier

- ABARES raised its forecast of 2017/18 Australian barley export to 5.209 MMT from previous estimate of 5.005 MMT in Sept but well below last year’s level of 9.537 MMT

- ABARES raised its forecast of 2017/18 Australian sorghum export to 781,000 MT from previous estimate of 763,000 MT in Sept and up from 729,000 MT in 2016/17

- Mali expects to produce a record 9.5 MMT of grain in the 2017/18 season that started in April, up 7.5% from previous season

- France exported 501 TMT of barley in October (incl. 112 TMT to Belgium, 82.5 TMT to Jordan, 70 TMT to Netherlands and 66 TMT to China) vs. 183 TMT in the same month last year, bringing total French barley exports in the first four months of the season to 1.677 TMT, up 15% on the year-earlier period (1.456 MMT in Jul-Oct 2016/17)

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange expects Argentina’s 2017/18 corn acreage at 5.4 mln ha (5.1 mln ha in 2016/17). Exchange estimates 40.4% of the crop has been planted as of Dec 6, behind of last year’s pace (48%)

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange forecasts Argentine 2017/18 barley crop at 2.9 MMT, down 3.3% from 2016/17 crop (3 MMT). Harvesting of Argentine barley crop was 13.7% completed as of Dec 6, behind of last year’s pace of 14.3%

- Russia's largest pork producer Miratorg reported an outbreak of African Swine Fever at one of its sites in the Belgorod region in central Russia

SOYBEAN

- Dec 11 - USDA announced export sales of 132,000 MT of US soybeans for delivery to unknown destinations during 2017/18

- Dec 8 - USDA announced export sales of 397,000 MT of US soybeans:

  • 268,000 MT to China for delivery during 2017/18;
  • 129,000 MT to unknown destinations for delivery during 2017/18 (63 TMT) and 2018/19 (66 TMT)

- AgRural raised its forecast of 2017/18 soybean production to 112.9 MMT from 110.2 MMT seen in a November forecast

- Safras & Mercado estimated Brazilian farmers sold 26.7% of the expected 2017/18 soybean crop so far versus 28% last year and vs. 5-year average pace of 33%. Safras estimates Brazil's soybean production will reach 114.7 MMT this season

- China imported 8.68 MMT of soybeans in November, up 11% from Nov 2016 and up 48% from 5.86 MMT in Oct 2017. Year-to-date imports were 85.99 MMT, up from 74.92 MMT last year, and exceeding the total for the whole of 2016

- China's imports of all vegetable oils in November was 540,000 MT, up 14.9% from 470,000 MT in October and up 5.9% vs. 510,000 MT year ago

- Indian export of oilmeals during April-November 2017/18 rose 109% to over 1.813 MMT compared to 868 TMT during the same period of last season. Indian Apr-Nov 2017/18 soymeal exports are estimated at 768,981 MT vs. 204,860 MT during the same period of last season

- Imports of cheap Argentine biodiesel, which the EU permitted this autumn, are starting to cause problems for European rapeseed crushing mills and may force them to cut production
