  • 60,000 MT of Russian wheat from ADM at 210.00 $/mt c&f (196.50 fob+13.50 freight);
  • 60,000 MT of Russian wheat from Union at 210.00 $/mt c&f (196.50 fob+13.50 freight)

- India has doubled its import tax on wheat to 20%. In March, the government had imposed 10% import duty on wheat. India had imported 5.75 MMT of wheat in the 2016/17 fiscal year ended on March

- Brazil has abandoned plans to allow a 750,000 MT duty-free quota of wheat from outside the South American trade bloc Mercosur

- Ukraine's Ag Min said Ukraine exported 14.3 MMT of grain between July 1-Nov 8, 2017/18 vs. 15.4 MMT for the same period last season, including:

  • wheat – 8.58 MMT (vs. 9 MMT a year ago);
  • corn – 2.04 MMT (2.45 MMT);
  • barley – 3.6 MMT (3.8 MMT)

- French soft wheat exports outside the EU decreased in September to 1.17 MMT, slowing from 1.38 MMT in the previous month but well ahead of last season's pace (737 TMT in Sept 2016). France exported 501 TMT of soft wheat outside the EU in September (incl. 299 TMT to Algeria), with Jul-Sept 2017/18 France's soft wheat shipments outside the EU at 1.74 MMT, up 13% on the year-earlier period. Soft wheat shipments to other EU countries totalled 674 TMT in September, taking the volume so far this season to 1.98 MMT, up 66% from a year earlier. Total French soft wheat exports so far this season were up 36% at 3.72 MMT (2.73 MMT in Jul-Sept 2016/17)


- Nov 8 - Jordan bought 50,000 MT of optional-origin feed barley from GTCS at 227 $/mt c&f for Mar 16-31 shipment

- Nov 8 - Japan bought 70,150 MT of feed grain (32,540 MT of wheat and 37,610 MT of barley) for February 28, 2018, arrival via SBS-tender. New SBS tender for 120,000 MT of feed wheat and 200,000 MT of feed barley will be held on Nov 15

- Algeria plans to waive the value added tax (VAT) from animal feed products, including maize and barley, in 2018

- India imposed 50% import tax on peas (Pisum sativum) as prices of pulses fell below the government-set support level in the local market. In 2016/17, India's pea imports jumped 41% from a year ago to a record 3.17 MMT

- France exported 392 TMT of barley in September (incl. 126 TMT to Belgium and 95 TMT to China) vs. 264 TMT in the same month last year, bringing total French barley exports in the first three months of the season to 1.18 TMT, down 7% on the year-earlier period (1.27 MMT in Jul-Sept 2016/17)

- Platts estimates the US will ship around 1.7 billion liters of ethanol to Brazil in 2018, compared to a projected 1.8 billion liters this year, despite the 20% import tax implemented by the Brazilian government this year

- US Ethanol production for the week ended Nov 3 rose by 1,000 barrels to 1,057,000 barrels per day, up 5.5% from last year's level of 1,002,000 bpd. Stocks fell by 129,000 barrels from the week prior to 21.345 million barrels, up 11% vs. 19.229 million barrels a year ago


- Abiove upped its forecast of Brazil's 2018 soybean crop by 0.3 MMT to 108.8 MMT. Abiove also raised its estimate of 2017 soybean exports by 2 MMT to 66 MMT, but left unchanged its forecast for 2018 export at 65 MMT

- China imported 5.86 MMT of soybeans in October, up 12% from Oct 2016 but down 28% from 8.11 MMT in Sept 2017 and well below market expectations after some shipments were delayed

- China's imports of all vegetable oils in October was 470,000 MT, down 22% from 600,000 MT in September but up 52% vs. 310,000 MT year ago
