WHEAT

- Sept 28 - Algeria's OAIC bought 480,000 MT of optional-origin milling wheat, likely mostly from France, at around 211-212 $/mt c&f for December shipment

- Syria has struck a deal to buy 3 MMT of wheat from Russia over three years and is working to secure financing from Moscow for the grain

- Russia’s Ag Min said Russia exported about 11.719 MMT of grain between July 1-Sept 27, 2017/18, up by 24.2% from 9.436 MMT a year ago, including:

  • wheat – 8.962 MMT (7.754 MMT in 2016/17);
  • barley – 1.909 MMT (1.259 MMT);
  • corn – 777 TMT (381 TMT);
  • others – 71 TMT (42 TMT)

- Russia has 3,971,600 MT of grain in its federal intervention fund as of Sept 29 vs. 3,260,000 MT a year-ago

- Russian farmers harvested 84.66 MMT of wheat from 93.7% of the planned area as of Oct 2, up from 75.16 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 3.27 mt/ha up from 2.8 mt/ha a year ago

- Russian farmers have planted 12.59 million hectares (72.4% of the planned area) of winter crops as of Oct 2, up vs. 11.69 mln ha a year ago

- Ukrainian farmers as of Sept 29 have sown 3.3 million hectares (53% of plan) for the 2018 wheat harvest. At this time last year 2.7 million hectares had been planted

- Kazakh farmers harvested 21.44 MMT of all grains as of Oct 2, up from 20.83 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 1.41 mt/ha down from 1.49 mt/ha a year ago

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange raised its estimate of Argentine 2017/18 wheat crop area from 5.35 to 5.45 mln ha (5.1 mln ha in 2016/17)

- Australia's wheat production is likely to fall to its lowest since 2007/08. The output is expected to drop to 20-20.5 MMT, below the official outlook of 21.64 MMT and more than 40% lower than last year's all-time high of 35.56 MMT

- USDA put the U.S. all-wheat crop at 1.741 billion bushels, above the average trade estimate of 1.718 billion bushels

- USDA pegged US Sept 1 wheat stocks at 2.253 billion bushels, ahead of average expectation (2.205) but down from 2.545 billion bu a year earlier

CORN

- Oct 2 - USDA announced export sales of 597,464 MT of US corn for delivery to Mexico during 2017/18

- Sept 29 - Saudi Arabia's SAGO (Saudi Grains Organisation) bought 540,000 MT of feed barley of Australia, North and South America, EU and Black Sea origin at an average price of 216.87 $/mt c&f in 9 consignments for Nov-Dec 2017 shipment to the Red Sea ports (360 TMT) and the Gulf ports (180 TMT):

  • Red Sea Ports:
    • 60,000 MT of feed barley from CBH at 211.98 $/mt c&f (Nov 15-30);
    • 60,000 MT of feed barley from ADM Hellas at 213.89 $/mt c&f (Nov 15-30);
    • 60,000 MT of feed barley from Glencore at 214.24 $/mt c&f (Nov 15-30);
    • 60,000 MT of feed barley from Holbud Limited at 215.78 $/mt c&f (Nov 15-30);
    • 60,000 MT of feed barley from Cofco Resources at 216.48 $/mt c&f (Dec 1-15);

- Sept 29 - China sold 1,606,315 MT of 2013, 2014 corn from state reserves, or 72.5% of the offered amount (2,215,404 MMT), at average price of 1,444 RMB/mt (216 $/mt). Since state reserve corn sales began in China (May 5), 48.097 MMT of corn have been sold, or about 59% of the offered volume (81.537 MMT)

- Sept 29 - Argentina registered 23,948 MT of corn for export

- Sept 29 - Argentina registered 15,000 MT of feed barley for export

- USDA said US corn inventories as of Sept 1 were the biggest since 1988 at 2.295 billion bushels, but below trade expectations for 2.353 billion bushels (2.31-2.45 – range)

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange expects Argentina’s 2017/18 corn acreage at 5.4 mln ha (5.1 mln ha in 2016/17). Exchange estimates 9.5% of the crop has been planted as of Sept 27, behind of last year’s pace (21.5%)

- Ukrainian farmers as of Sept 29 harvested 2.4 MMT of maize from 591,000 hectares (or 13% from total area of 4.5 million ha) with yields at 4.09 mt/ha

- Ukrainian farmers as of Sept 29 have sown 114,000 hectares (12% of plan) for the 2018 barley harvest. The area under winter barley is likely to total 926,000 hectares

- Russian farmers harvested 4.56 MMT of corn from 32.6% of the planned area as of Oct 2, up from 3.54 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 4.8 mt/ha vs. 5.27 mt/ha a year ago

- Russian farmers harvested 20.95 MMT of barley from 94.2% of the planned area as of Oct 2, up from 18.86 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.8 mt/ha up from 2.35 mt/ha a year ago

- FranceAgriMer estimated French corn condition as of Sept 25 as 80% in good to excellent, unchanged from the prior week and well above the year-ago score of 54%. French farmers harvested 5% of corn as of Sept 25 vs. 2% a week ago and 3% a year ago

SOYBEAN

- Oct 2 - USDA announced export sales of 132,000 MT of US soybeans for delivery to China during 2017/18

- Oct 2 - Egypt's GASC seeks 10,000 MT optional-origin sunoil and 30,000 MT soyoil for Nov 25-Dec 10 delivery. Traders said the following offers were made in the tender:

  • ADM: 30,000 MT of soyoil at 812 $/mt c&f and/or 10,000 MT of sunflower oil at 807 $/mt c&f;
  • Glencore: 30,000 MT of soyoil at 819 $/mt c&f and/or 10,000 MT of sunflower oil at 812 $/mt c&f;
  • Olam: 30,000 MT of soyoil at 817 $/mt c&f and/or 10,000 MT of sunflower oil at 809 $/mt c&f;
  • Aston: 11,000 MT of sunflower oil at 804.95 $/mt c&f and/or 22,500 MT of sunflower oil at 802.95 $/mt c&f;
  • ECTP: 10,000 MT of sunflower oil at 816 $/mt c&f

- Sept 29 - China sold 215,469 MT of soybean produced in 2010 and 2012 from state reserves, or 71.8% of the offered amount (300,057 MT) at an average price of 3,140 RMB/mt (470 $/mt)

- USDA pegged US Sept 1 soybean stocks at 301 million bushels, the biggest in 10 years, but below trade expectations for 338 million (321-363 – range)

- Ukrainian farmers as of Sept 29 harvested 6.8 MMT of sunseed from 3.6 million hectares (61% of plan) with yields of 1.87 mt/ha

- Ukrainian farmers as of Sept 29 harvested 1.4 MMT of soybeans from 801,000 hectares (40% of plan) with yields of 1.72 mt/ha

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange expects Argentina’s 2017/18 sunflower seed acreage will rise to 1.8 mln ha (1.7 mln ha in 2016/17). About 36.5% of the crop has been planted as of Sept 27 vs. 30.9% this time last year

- Strategie Grains raised its 2017 EU rapeseed crop estimate to 21.89 MMT from 21.65 MMT previously, up 7.6% from the 2016 harvest (20.34 MMT)

- Strategie Grains estimated the area sown with rapeseed for the 2018 harvest in the EU at 6.64 million hectares, down 1% from 6.73 million ha harvested this year

- Strategie Grains raised its 2017 EU sunflower crop forecast to 8.75 MMT from 8.68 MMT in September, up 4.2% from the 2016 harvest (8.39 MMT)

- Strategie Grains expects 2% fall in the EU's 2018 sunseed sowing area to 4.1 million ha
