WHEAT

- Aug 31 - Tunisia's state grains agency bought 50,000 MT of optional origin soft milling wheat for Nov 1-Dec 25 shipment:

  • 25,000 MT of soft milling wheat from ADM at 193.12 $/mt c&f;
  • 25,000 MT of soft milling wheat from Louis Dreyfus at 193.73 $/mt c&f

- Weekly US wheat export sales data for week ended Aug 24 totalled 566,000 MT (within trade expectations of 300-600 TMT), incl. 536,000 MT for 2017/18 and 30,000 MT for 2018/19. Export commitments for 2017/18 are running 2% ahead of year-ago

- According to TAXUD, the EU this season in period of July 1-Aug 29, 2017/18 exported 2.402 MMT of soft wheat compared to 5.034 MMT a year ago

- Statistics Canada (StatsCan) estimated Canada's 2017 all-wheat crop at 25.541 MMT, down 19.5% compared with 2016 and below average market expectation of 26.2 MMT

- Egypt will allow wheat shipments with a moisture level of up to 13.5% for an extra nine months

- UK wheat stocks totalled 1.39 MMT at the end of June, down 48% from a year earlier

- Exports by Ukrainian state grain company GPZKU to Chinese firm CCEC under a $1.5 billion Chinese loan-for-grains deal rose 11% to 702,000 MT of grain in 2016/17 season (633 TMT in 2015/16)

- Aug 31 - China sold 49,508 MT of 2012 wheat from state reserves or 4.2% of the offered amount (1,170,095 MT) at auction at average price of 2,373 RMB/mt (360 $/mt)

CORN

- Weekly US corn export sales data for week ended Aug 24 of 992,600 MT (topped trade expectations of 400-900 TMT), incl. 188,400 MT for 2016/17 and 804,200 MT for 2017/18. Export commitments for 2016/17 are running 13% ahead of year-ago

- Cargill estimated that Brazil will have exported 5 MMT of corn in August

- Aug 31 - China sold a total 155,950 MT of corn from state reserves via auctions:

  • 28,798 MT of 2013 corn, or 6.2% of the offered amount (462,162 MT), at average price of 1,253 RMB/mt (190 $/mt);
  • 127,152 MT of 2014 corn, or 43% of the offered amount (295,462 MT) at average price of 1,455 RMB/mt (220 $/mt)

- EU this season in period of Jul 1-Aug 29, 2017/18 imported 2.381 MMT of corn (maize) vs. 1.542 MMT a year ago

- EU this season in period of Jul 1-Aug 29, 2017/18 exported 39,657 MT of corn vs. 269,786 MT a year ago

SOYBEAN

- Aug 31 - USDA announced export sales of 132,000 MT of US soybeans for delivery to unknown destinations during 2017/18

- Aug 30 - South Korea's Major Feedmill Group (MFG) in a direct deal bought around 55,000 MT of South American soymeal from Cargill at 349.99 $/mt c&f including surcharge for additional port unloading for Jan 10-31 shipment and March 10, 2018 arrival

- Weekly US soybean export sales data for week ended Aug 24 of 1,682,300 MT (near the upper end of market estimates of 0.4-1.7 MMT), incl. 123,200 MT for 2016/17 and 1,559,100 MT for 2017/18. Export commitments for 2016/17 are running 15% ahead of year-ago

- Statistics Canada (StatsCan) estimated Canada's 2017 canola crop at 18,203 MMT, down 7.1% compared with 2016 and below average market expectation of 18.6 MMT

- StatsCan expects soybean production to reach another record high in 2017, up 19.8% from 2016 to 7.743 MMT, slightly below average market expectation of 7.9 MMT and last year's 6.235 MMT

- Argentina's oilseed industry chamber (CIARA) said that local prices for soy oil and soybeans will likely decline as a result of the US decision last week to slap high tariffs on imports of Argentine biodiesel. In 2016, 1.5 MMT of soybean oil were used to manufacture biodiesel shipped to the US, representing 7.5 MMT of soybeans
