WHEAT

- US wheat export inspections for week, ending Aug 10, recorded 511,528 MT, within market expectations. Inspections for 2017/18 are running 12.2% ahead of year-ago

- USDA estimated 97% of the US winter wheat harvest was complete by Aug 13 versus 97% a year ago and 96% the 5-year mean

- USDA rated 33% of the US spring wheat crop in good-to-excellent condition as of Aug 13, up from 32% a week earlier and in line with market forecasts, but below the 66% a year-ago. The wheat harvest was 40% complete by Aug 13, ahead of 5-year mean (35%), but lag behind last year pace (45%)

- Aug 15 - China sold 6,632 MT of wheat from state reserves or 0.2% of the offered amount (3,033,255 MT) at auction at average price of 2,460 RMB/mt (368 $/mt)

- Aug 15 - China failed to sell imported wheat from state reserves; at the auction was offered 135,990 MT

- UK exported 44,720 MT of wheat in June, more than 29,609 MT in May but down 84.3% from a year-ago. Cumulative exports for the whole season 2016/17, which started on July 1, 2016, totalled 1.444 MMT (including 332 TMT to Netherlands, 212 TMT to Spain and 207 TMT to Algeria) down from 2.857 MMT during the prior season

- Ukrainian farmers harvested 26 MMT of wheat from 98% of the planned area as of August 15, down from 26.4 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 4.16 mt/ha versus 4.28 mt/ha a year ago

CORN

- Aug 14 - Argentina registered 38,946 MT of corn for export

- Aug 14 - Argentina registered for export 12,700 MT of malt and 9,800 MT of malting barley

- Aug 11 - Saudi Arabia's SAGO (Saudi Grains Organisation) bought 660,000 MT of feed barley of Australia, North and South America, EU and Black Sea origin at an average price of 203.37 $/mt c&f in 11 consignments for October 2017 shipment to the Red Sea ports (480 TMT) and the Gulf ports (180 TMT):

- USDA rated 62% of the US corn crop as good-to-excellent as of Aug 13, up 2% points from the previous week and compared to 74% a year-ago. Analysts had expected the crop to be pegged at unchanged

- US corn export inspections for week, ending Aug 10, reported 756,935 MT, below the market forecasts (0.8-1.0 MMT). Inspections for 2016/17 are running 27.3% ahead of year-ago

- UK imported 325,550 MT of corn in June, up from 129,150 MT in May and up 91.5% from a year-ago. Britain’s July-June 2016/17 corn imports totalled 2.126 MMT (incl. 404 TMT from France, 326 TMT from Ukraine, 309 TMT from Romania, 251 TMT from the US and 205 TMT from Poland) vs. 1.814 MMT a year ago

- UK exported 77,536 MT of barley in June, up from 51,650 MT in May but 26.7% below last year level. Cumulative barley exports for whole 2016/17 fell to 1.05 MMT compared to 1.994 MMT in 2015/16. Top customers included Netherlands (210 TMT), Spain (195 TMT) and Belgium-Luxembourg (157 TMT).

- Ukrainian farmers harvested 8.5 MMT of barley from 99% of the planned area as of August 15, down from 9.8 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 3.4 mt/ha down from 3.41 mt/ha a year ago

- Ukrainian farmers harvested 1.1 MMT of peas from 100% of the planned area as of August 15, up from 763 TMT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.67 mt/ha versus 3.23 mt/ha a year ago

SOYBEAN

- Aug 15 - USDA announced export sales of 264,000 MT of US soybeans for delivery during 2017/18:

  • 132,000 MT to China;
  • 132,000 MT to unknown destinations

- Aug 14 - Argentina registered for export 11,000 MT of soybeans and 182,000 MT of soymeal

- US soybean export inspections for week, ending Aug 10, reported 570,012 MT, within market expectations. Inspections for the 2016/17 marketing year are running 14.5% ahead of year-ago

- USDA rated 59% of the US soybean crop as good-to-excellent as of Aug 13, down 1% point from prior week and behind market forecasts for unchanged, also below compared to 72% a year-ago

- Up until the second week of August, Brazil had sold 53.37 MMT of soybeans, almost 3.5% above exports for the whole of last year

- Surveyor Intertek Testing Services estimated Malaysia's August 1-15 palm oil exports at 512,039 MT down 14.6% from a month ago

- Surveyor SGS estimated Malaysia's August 1-15 palm oil exports at 537,022 MT down 12.8% from a month ago

- Aug 11 - India, the world's largest buyer of vegetable oils, doubled the import tax on crude palm oils to 15% (from 7.5%) and raised the import tax on refined palm oils to 25% (from 15%). The import duties on other crude edible oils like soya and sunflower have been raised to 17.5% from 12.5%

- India imported 1.525 MMT of veg oils (edible & non-edible) in July vs. 1.345 MMT in June, up 34% from 1.141 MMT a year ago

- India imported 11.101 MMT of edible veg oils in Nov-July 2016/17, up 2.9% from the same period of 2015/16 (10.788 MMT)

- India imported 515,188 MT of crude palm oil in July vs. 572,388 MT in June and vs. 362,821 MT a year ago. India's Nov-July 2016/17 crude palm oil imports at 4.482 MMT vs. 4.129 MMT a year ago

- India's stock of edible oils at various ports and in pipelines as of August 1, 2017 increased to 2.473 MMT from 2.278 MMT a month ago, and above the last year's 2.15 MMT. India's monthly requirement is about 1.75 MMT

- Ukrainian farmers harvested 2.1 MMT of rapeseed from 97% of the planned area as of August 15, up from 1.1 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.77 mt/ha versus 2.62 mt/ha a year ago
