WHEAT

- Russian farmers harvested 21.95 MMT of wheat from 17.2% of the planned area as of July 21, down from 26.67 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 4.56 mt/ha up from 4.22 mt/ha a year ago

- Russia’s Ag Min said Russia exported about 1.101 MMT of grain between July 1-19, 2017/18, down by 6.2% from 1.174 MMT a year ago, including:

  • wheat – 520 TMT (836 TMT in 2016/17);
  • barley – 276 TMT (311 TMT);
  • corn – 298 TMT (16 TMT);
  • others – 7 TMT (11 TMT)

- Russia has 3,993,400 MT of grain in its federal intervention fund as of July 21

- Agritel assumes that France will harvest 36.64 MMT of soft wheat this year, up 33% from a poor harvest in 2016

- FranceAgriMer said 66% of France’s soft wheat crops were in good to excellent condition as of July 17, unchanged from the prior week and up vs. 42% a year ago. French farmers harvested 63% of soft wheat as of July 17 vs. 29% a week ago and 16% a year ago. They also harvested 93% of the durum vs. 70% a week ago and 58% a year ago

- Kazakh farmers harvested 441,900 MT of all grains as of July 21, down from 538,500 MT a year ago. Yields totalled 1.91 mt/ha up from 2.12 mt/ha a year ago

- Ukrainian farmers harvested 9.1 MMT of wheat from 40% of the planned area as of July 21, down from 13 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 3.58 mt/ha versus 3.87 mt/ha a year ago

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange kept its estimate of Argentine 2017/18 wheat crop area at 5.4 mln ha (5.1 mln ha in 2016/17). Exchange estimates 82.5% of the crop has been planted as of July 20 vs. 82.6% this time last year

CORN

- July 21 - China sold 1,872,819 MT of 2013, 2014 corn from state reserves, or 55.8% of the offered amount (3,353,979 MMT), at average price of 1,441 RMB/mt (213 $/mt)

- July 20 - Jordan has made no purchase in an international tender for 100,000 MT of optional-origin feed barley for December shipment and retender on July 27

- July 20 - Argentina registered 44,000 MT of corn for export

- FranceAgriMer estimated French corn condition as of July 17 as 81% in good to excellent, unchanged from the prior week, and well above the year-ago score of 69%

- FranceAgriMer said 65% of France’s spring barley crops were in good to excellent condition as of July 17, unchanged from the prior week and above the year-ago score (60%). Harvesting of spring barley was under way, with 49% of the crop cut by July 17 (11% a week ago), well above the 6% harvest progress a year ago. They finished harvesting of winter barley, ahead of last year’s pace of 92%

- Ukrainian farmers harvested 4.6 MMT of barley from 57% of the planned area as of July 21, down from 6.6 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 3.19 mt/ha down from 3.26 mt/ha a year ago

- Ukrainian farmers harvested 741 TMT of peas from 76% of the planned area as of July 21, up from 628 TMT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.43 mt/ha versus 3.16 mt/ha a year ago

- Russian farmers harvested 3.23 MMT of barley from 10.3% of the planned area as of July 21, down from 3.47 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 3.88 mt/ha up from 3.66 mt/ha a year ago

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange maintains its forecast for Argentina's 2016/17 corn crop at 39 MMT, up 30% vs. 30 MMT in 2015/16. Harvesting of Argentine corn crop was 59.4% completed as of July 20 vs. last year’s pace of 52.8%

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange expects Argentina’s 2017/18 barley acreage will fall to 800,000 ha (850,000 ha in 2016/17). About 65.8% of the crop has been planted as of July 20 vs. 53.7% this time last year

- Argentina's Ag Min raised its corn acreage estimate for the 2016/17 to 8.48 mln ha, incl. 6.48 mln ha under corn for grain. They increased forecast of corn production by 2 MMT to 49.5 MMT, up 24.4% from 39.8 MMT in 2015/16. Forecast of corn exports in 2016/17 (Mar 2017-Feb 2018) was upped to 30 MMT from 28.5 MMT in June and vs. 21.45 MMT in previous season

- Argentina's Ag Min lowered its barley acreage estimate for the 2017/18 to 917,000 hectares from 930,000 ha in June, down 6.4% from 980,000 ha in 2016/17. They raised barley export estimate for 2016/17 (Dec-Nov) to 2.1 MMT from 2.0 MMT in June, still down from 3.1 MMT in previous season

- Argentina's Ag Min lowered estimate of sorghum production to 2.6 MMT from 2.84 MMT in June, down 13.3% from 2015/16. Sorghum exports in 2016/17 (Mar 2017-Feb 2018) are expected at 300,000 MT (450,000 MT in 2015/16)

SOYBEAN

- July 20 - Argentina registered for export 25,000 MT of soybeans

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange kept its Argentina's 2016/17 soybean harvest estimate at 57.5 MMT, up 2.7% from 56 MMT in 2015/16. Harvesting of Argentine soybean crop was 100% completed as of July 20 vs. last year’s pace of 98.2%

- Argentina's Ag Min cut its soybean acreage estimate for the 2016/17 to 18 mln ha. They lowered soybean production estimate by 2 MMT to 55 MMT, down 6.5% from 58.8 MMT in 2015/16. Soybean exports forecast for 2016/17 (Apr 2017-Mar 2018) was lowered to 8.5 MMT from 9 MMT in June (9 MMT in 2015/16). Soybean crushing is forecasted at 49 MMT (48.5 MMT in 2015/16)

- Argentina's Ag Min estimated sunseed production in 2016/17 at 3.55 MMT, up 18.3% from 3 MMT in 2015/16. Estimate for sunseed crush in 2016/17 (Jan-Dec 2017) kept at 3.45 MMT vs. 2.75 MMT previous season

- Ruchi Soya Industries expects India to import 14.3 MMT of edible oils in the year to end-October 2017, down 300,000 MT or 2% from the previous year. That will be a fall in India's edible oil imports for the first time in six years

- FranceAgriMer upped its estimate of France's 2016/17 soybean crop to 342 TMT from 339 TMT in April and vs. 337 TMT in 2015/16 with the carryout pegged at 39 TMT (66 TMT previous estimate) against 71 TMT year ago. France's 2016/17 soybean imports are estimated at 850 TMT vs. 846 TMT year ago

- FranceAgriMer raised its estimate of France's 2016/17 rapeseed crop to 4.738 MMT from 4.728 MMT in April and vs. 5.334 MMT in 2015/16 with the carryout estimated at 198 TMT (139 TMT previously) against 137 TMT at the end of 2015/16. France's 2016/17 rapeseed exports are estimated at 1.342 MMT vs. 1.511 MMT year ago and imports at 1.3 MMT (1.19 MMT in 2015/16)

- FranceAgriMer trimmed its estimate of France's 2016/17 sunseed crop to 1.183 MMT from 1.19 MMT in April and vs. 1.187 MMT in 2015/16 with the carryout pegged at 177 TMT (212 TMT previously) against 152 TMT in 2015/16. France's 2016/17 sunseed exports are estimated at 300 TMT (275 TMT in Apr) vs. 328 TMT year ago and imports at 510 TMT (550 TMT in Apr) vs. 235 TMT in 2015/16

- Ukrainian farmers harvested 1.1 MMT of rapeseed from 56% of the planned area as of July 21, up from 805 TMT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.48 mt/ha versus 2.58 mt/ha a year ago

- Russian farmers harvested 142,900 MT of rapeseed from 6.7% of the planned area as of July 21, up from 97,900 MT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.06 mt/ha vs. 1.95 mt/ha a year ago

- Indian farmers increased summer crop planting by about 1.8% as of July 19, from the same period last year. Pulses planting was up 3.4% compared with the same time last year, to 9.34 million ha, while soybean planting fell 17.7% to 8.46 million ha. Summer crop planting will continue until October
