WHEAT

- May 31 - Egypt's GASC bought 180,000 MT of wheat from Russia (120 TMT) and Romania (60 TMT) for July 1-10 shipment:

  • 60,000 MT of Romanian wheat from ADM at 201.56 $/mt c&f (191.46+10.10 freight);
  • 2x60,000 MT of Russian wheat from Midgulf at 203.14 $/mt c&f (192.24+10.90 freight)

- USDA estimated 50% of the US winter wheat crop good to excellent as of May 28 compared to 52% a week ago and 63% a year-ago, below analysts' expectations of 52%

- USDA estimated US spring wheat planting at 96% complete as of May 28, matching market expectations and ahead of 91% five-year average, but below than 98% last year. USDA also rated 62% of the spring wheat as good-to-excellent below analysts' expectations of 71% and compared to 79% a year-ago

- Ukraine's Ag Min said Ukraine exported 40.75 MMT of grain between July 1-May 31, 2016/17, up 11.8% from 36.46 MMT for the same period last season, including:

  • wheat – 16.67 MMT (vs. 15.51 MMT a year ago);
  • corn – 18.59 MMT (16.43 MMT);
  • barley – 5.25 MMT (4.3 MMT)

- Cocereal lowered its projection for EU-28’s 2017 soft wheat crop to 141.986 MMT, down 2.829 MMT from its March forecast but still up from 135.502 MMT last year

- Bulgaria's Ag Min said Bulgaria exported 1.572 MMT of wheat via port Varna between July 4-May 28, 2016/17, down 4.3% from a year-ago (1.642 MMT)

CORN

- May 31 - South Korea's Major Feedmill Group (MFG) bought 68,000 MT of optional-origin corn at about 182.9 $/mt c&f for October arrival

- May 31 - Japan received no offers for 120,000 MT of feed wheat and 200,000 MT of feed barley in a simultaneous buy and sell (SBS) auction. New SBS tender for the same amounts for each grain will be held on June 7

- May 30 - Argentina registered 30,000 MT of feed barley for export

- USDA said the US corn crop was 91% planted as of May 28, behind an average analyst estimate of 92% and below the last year and five-year average scores of 93%. USDA rated 65% of the corn crop in good-to-excellent condition, below an average of analysts' expectations for 68% and compared to 72% a year-ago

- USDA estimated US sorghum planting 44% complete as of May 28, compared to 43% last year and a 49% five-year average

- Coceral cut its EU-28’s 2017 corn production forecast to 60.015 MMT from 61.008 MMT in March, now down from 60.777 MMT in 2016

- Coceral decreased its forecast for EU-28’s 2017 barley harvest to 57.191 MMT, down 2.359 MMT over March forecast and less than the 59.689 MMT last season

- Bulgarian farmers have sown 408,521 ha of corn as of May 25 vs. 410,420 ha a year ago

- Bulgaria's Ag Min said Bulgaria exported 191,336 MT of corn via port Varna between Sept 1-May 28, 2016/17, down 63% from a year-ago (516,831 MT)

SOYBEAN

- May 30 - Argentina registered 19,300 MT of sunflower meal for export

- USDA said US soybean planting was 67% complete as of May 28, behind last-year score (71%), and below the average expectation and five-year average of 68%

- Private port grains inspectors in Argentina started a 48-hour wage strike on Wednesday, after government health inspectors called a three-day work stoppage a day earlier, also over pay

- Coceral raised its forecast for 2017 EU-28 rapeseed harvest to 21.476 MMT, up 520 TMT over March forecast and better than the 20.637 MMT last season

- Coceral cut its projection for 2017 EU-28 sunflower seed crop to 8.138 MMT from 8.34 MMT in March, now down from 8.309 MMT in 2016

- Coceral increased its projection for 2017 EU-28 soybean crop to 2.566 MMT from 2.545 MMT in March, up 5.2% from 2.439 MMT in 2016

- Bulgarian farmers have sown 804,036 ha of sunflower as of May 25 vs. 735,211 ha a year ago

- Surveyor SGS estimated Malaysia's May 1-31 palm oil exports at 1,310,320 MT up 15.4% from a month ago

- Surveyor Intertek Testing Services estimated Malaysia's May 1-31 palm oil exports at 1,306,374 MT up 16% from a month ago

- Indonesian Palm Oil Association GAPKI pegged the country's end of April palm oil stockpiles at 888,000 MT compared to the 1.4 MMT at the end of March and the 3.75 MMT at the end of 2016. The group estimates Jan-Apr 2017 export of all palm oil products, including oleochemical and biodiesel, at 10.7 MMT, up 2 MMT from the same period last year, while output rose by 14% to 11.5 MMT
