WHEAT

- Mar 23 - Japan seeks 117,689 MT of food wheat for April-June shipments:

  • 28,500 MT of hard red winter US wheat;
  • 28,600 MT of dark northern spring US wheat;
  • 35,729 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat;
  • 24,860 MT of Australian standard white wheat

- Mar 20 - Argentina registered 16,087 MT of wheat for export

- Mar 21 - China sold 474,320 MT of wheat from state reserves or 18.1% of the of the offered amount (2,625,031 MT) at auction at average price of 2,507 RMB/mt (363 $/mt)

- USDA attaché forecasts Thailand’s 2017/18 wheat imports to decline to 3 MMT, down 17% from 2016/17 (3.6 MMT) as the government’s import restrictions on feed wheat will continue to hinder feed wheat imports. Feed wheat imports are likely to decline to around 1.6 MMT in 2017/18, down 27% from 2016/17 (2.2 MMT). Meanwhile, milling wheat is expected to increase to around 1.2 MMT, up 3-4% from 2016/17

- USDA attaché forecasts Kenya’s 2017/18 wheat imports to increase to 1.65 MMT, up 3% from 2016/17 (1.6 MMT). In the 2016/17 the bulk of the Kenya’s wheat imports were from Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Germany, Poland, Canada and Estonia

CORN

- Mar 20 - Argentina registered 118,228 MT of corn for export

- Dr. Michael Cordonnier raised his forecast of South America’s 2016/17 corn crop this week by 2 MMT to 129.3 MMT (97.2 MMT in 2015/16) due to increase forecast for Brazil by 2 MMT to 88 MMT (66 MMT in 2015/16)

- USDA attaché expects Thailand’s 2017/18 corn production to decline to 4.9 MMT, down 6% from 2016/17 (5.2 MMT)

- USDA attaché forecasts Kenya’s 2017/18 corn production to increase to 2.8 MMT, up 12% from 2016/17 (2.5 MMT). Corn imports are forecast to decrease in 2017/18 to 1 MMT, after an increase in 2016/17 (1.3 MMT) due to a GOK’s drought mitigation imports

SOYBEAN

- Mar 20 - Argentina registered for export 34,180 MT of soymeal and 7,000 MT of soybean oil

- Paraguay's 2016/17 soybean crop is estimated at more than 10 MMT, record harvest for the world's No. 4 soybean exporter

- Dr. Michael Cordonnier raised his forecast of South America’s 2016/17 soybean crop this week by 1 MMT to 178.2 MMT (165.5 MMT in 2015/16) due to increase forecast for Brazil by 1 MMT to 108 MMT (95.5 MMT in 2015/16)

- USDA attaché projects Indonesia’s 2017/18 soybean imports at 2.45 MMT, incl. 2.4 MMT from the US, compared to 2.32 MMT in 2016/17, incl. 2.3 MMT from US

- USDA attaché expects Indonesia’s 2017/18 soymeal imports at 4.45 MMT compared to 4.3 MMT in 2016/17

- USDA attaché in Indonesia forecasts palm oil production at 36.5 MMT in 2017/18, up from 34 MMT in 2016/17. Indonesian palm oil exports in 2017/18 are expected at 25.5 MMT (25 MMT in 2016/17) and domestic consumption – at 9.745 MMT (9.64 MMT in 2016/17)

- Russia exported about 811,800 MT of sunflower oil between Sept 1-Mar 12, 2016/17, a 38.8%-increase from a year-ago

- Russia exported about 132,600 MT of sunseed between Sept 1-Mar 12, 2016/17, in 5.1 times up from a year-ago

- Russia exported about 211,400 MT of soybeans between Sept 1-Mar 12, 2016/17, down 31.1% from a year-ago
