- Mar 10 - Saudi Arabia's SAGO (Saudi Grains Organisation) bought 735,000 MT of hard wheat (12.5% protein) of EU, North and South American and Australian origin at an average price of 220.49 $/mt c&f in 12 consignments for May-July shipment to the ports of Jeddah (480 TMT) and Dammam (255 TMT):

- Mar 10 - Argentina grants export licenses for 16,490 MT of milling wheat

- US wheat export inspections for week, ending Mar 9, recorded 519,127 MT, in line with market expectations (400-600 TMT). Inspections for 2016/17 are running 27.9% ahead of year-ago

- Informa Economics lowered its estimate of the US 2017 all wheat acreage to 45.6 million acres (18.45 mln ha) from 45.762 million acres/18.52 mln ha in January

- Russia’s Ag Min said Russia exported about 25.621 MMT of grain between July 1-Mar 8, 2016/17, down by 1.3% from 25.962 MMT a year ago, including:

  • wheat – 19.755 MMT (19.244 MMT a year ago);
  • barley – 2.187 MMT (3.632 MMT);
  • corn – 3.496 MMT (2.868 MMT);
  • others – 183 TMT (218 TMT)

- Russia has 4,005,600 MT of grain in its federal intervention fund as of March 10 vs. 3,032,400 MT a year ago

- Egypt's strategic wheat reserves stand at over 3 MMT and are expected to double with the start of the local harvest in April. The current wheat reserve level is enough to last at least four months

- China's wheat imports are expected to rise to 4.5 MMT in the year to June 2017 from 3.48 MMT previously as lower production and the poor quality of the domestic crop boost demand

- Ukraine's Ag Min said that above 97% winter crops were emerged; about 83% of emerged crops are in good and satisfactory condition

- Ukraine exported 840 TMT of wheat in February 2017. Ukraine's July-Feb 2016/17 wheat exports rose 14.5% on year to 13.56 MMT

- UK exported 91,132 MT of wheat in January, the lowest monthly total so far in the 2016/17 season, less than 93,425 MT in December and down 70.7% from a year-ago, including 28,072 MT to Belgium-Luxembourg and 18,384 MT to Portugal. Cumulative exports for the season, which started on July 1, 2016, totalled 1.161 MMT, down from 1.303 MT during the same period prior season

- UK imported 151,828 MT of wheat in January, down from 173,456 MT in December but up 83.5% from a year-ago, including 37,414 MT from Poland, 31,062 MT from Denmark and 25,816 MT from Canada. Britain’s Jul-Jan wheat imports totalled 992,003 MT, up from 945,771 MT a year ago

CORN

- Mar 15 - Israeli group seeks 85,000 MT of optional-origin corn for April-June shipments

- Mar 15 - Israeli group seeks 30,000 MT of optional-origin feed barley for April-June shipments

- Ukraine's Ag Min said that Kenyan government has decided to buy 450,000 MT of maize from Ukraine to be supplied from March to May

- US corn export inspections for week, ending Mar 9, reported 1,547,022 MT, near the top end of market forecasts (1.25-1.55 MMT). Inspections for 2016/17 are running 74.6% ahead of year-ago

- Informa Economics raised its forecast of US 2017 corn plantings to 90.8 million acres (36.75 mln ha) from 90.489 mln acres/36.62 mln ha in January

- AgRural estimates Brazil second corn crop seedings at 88% of expected area as of Mar 9 (75% a week ago) versus 85% of area at this time a year ago and the 5-year average of 83%

- Farmers of seven southern Ukrainian regions have started spring grain sowing, seeding 31,000 hectares, thereof 18,000 ha of barley (or 1% of planned area of 1.728 mln ha), 11,000 ha of peas (or 4% of planned area of 276,000 ha), 2,000 ha of oats (or 1% of planned area of 208,000 ha) and 1,000 ha of wheat (or 1% of planned area of 190,000 ha)

- Ukraine exported 1.81 MMT of corn in February 2017. Ukraine's Sept-Feb 2016/17 corn exports rose 7.1% on year to 10.46 MMT

- Ukraine exported 202 TMT of barley in February 2017. Ukraine's July-Feb 2016/17 barley exports rose 17.8% on year to 4.67 MMT

- UK corn imports declined in January to 166,475 MT from 198,864 MT in December and down 11.8% from a year-ago, including 40,055 MT from Romania, 35,497 MT from Russia, 31,687 MT from Ukraine and 28,904 MT from Poland. Britain’s Jul-Jan corn imports totalled 1.057 MMT vs. 1.156 MMT a year ago

- UK exported 49,046 MT of barley in January, down from 96,653 MT in December and by 70% below year-ago level. Top customers included Netherlands (17,190 MT) and Germany (10,169 MT). Cumulative barley exports for 2016/17 totalled 715,553 MT compared to 1.033 MMT in Jul-Jan 2015/16

SOYBEAN

- Mar 16 - Egypt’s GASC seeks 25,000 MT of soybean oil and 15,000 MT of sunflower oil for arrival until May 10

- Mar 13 - USDA announced export sales of 120,000 MT of US soybeans for delivery to unknown destinations during 2017/18

- Mar 10 - Argentina grants export licenses for 180,180 MT of soymeal and 33,000 MT of soybean oil

- US soybean export inspections for week, ending Mar 9, reported 656,288 MT, within market expectations that ranged from 500 to 800 TMT. Inspections for the 2016/17 marketing year are running 11.3% ahead of year-ago

- Informa Economics raised its forecast of US 2017 soybean plantings to 88.7 million acres (35.9 mln ha) from 88.647 mln acres/35.88 mln ha in January

- AgRural estimates 56% of Brazilian soybean crop has been harvested as of Mar 9 (47% a week ago) vs. 52% a year ago and the 5-year average of 47%

- Egypt has sufficient vegetable oils reserves to cover 3.5 months' needs
