The Turkish Grain Board (TMO) completed the wheat import tender which was held on January 13, 2017. After amendments to the regulations, tenders can only be submitted in Turkish Lira. The average tender price was 895 TL/MT (roughly US$235.5/MT).
General Information
TMO completed a tender to purchase a total of 99,000 tons of wheat sourced from the European Union (EU). Therefore, 99,000 MT of high quality wheat, with a minimum 14 percent protein, was bought under a zero tariff quota through a tender on January 13, 2017. Five companies gave bids for the tender. The average tender price was 895 TL/MT (roughlyUS$235.5/MT). The Loading Period is January 20 through February 7, 2017. TMO plans to sell this imported wheat to Turkish wheat processors, such as wheat flour producers.
The Regulations amending the Public Procurement Application Regulations and the Communiqué amending the Public Procurement General Communiqué entered into force with the publication of the Official Gazette dated November 29, 2016 and numbered 29903. Before the publication of these amendments, it was possible to hold a tender in a foreign currency. However, with these amendments, the Turkish Lira is required to be used in all tenders that are within the scope of the Public Procurement Law No. 4734, including the latest tender of TMO.
