- Feb 5 - Iraq seeks at least 50,000 MT of wheat from either the US, Canada or Australia. The tender closes on Feb 5 and offers must remain valid up to Feb 9

- Jan 27 - Japan seeks 110,687 MT of food wheat for Feb-Apr shipment:

  • 14,530 MT of western white US wheat;
  • 46,080 MT of hard red winter US wheat;
  • 50,077 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat

- Jan 25 - Japan bought 9,340 MT of feed grain (9,090 MT of wheat and 250 MT of barley) for March 10 arrival via SBS-tender. New SBS tender for 120,000 MT of feed wheat and 200,000 MT of feed barley will be held on Feb 1

- Jan 24 - Argentina grants export licenses for 195,616 MT of milling wheat

- Hungarian Central Statistics Office (KSH) estimated Hungary's 2016 wheat production at 5.592 MMT, up 4.9% on year and 17.6% above five-year average

- Japan's December grain imports up 2.2% on year to 1.947 MMT, incl. 1.026 MMT from the US (+43.0%). For the full year of 2016, Japan has imported 24.422 MMT of grain, up 1.7% from year-ago (14.477 MMT from US, down 4.5% y/y)

- Informa Economics lowered the US 2017 all wheat acreage to 45.762 million acres (18.5 mln ha) from 46.6 million acres in December and versus 50.154 mln acres/20.3 mln ha a year ago, and expected production at 1.877 billion bushels (51.08 MMT) versus 2.310 billion/62.86 MMT last year

CORN

- Informa Economics raised its forecast of US 2017 corn plantings to 90.489 million acres (36.62 mln ha) from 90.151 mln acres/36.48 mln ha in December

- Dr. Michael Cordonnier left his forecast of South America's 2016/17 corn crop unchanged this week at 124.3 MMT compared to 97.2 MMT in 2015/16

- Hungarian Central Statistics Office (KSH) estimated Hungary's 2016 corn production at 8.807 MMT (with a record yield 8.61 mt/ha), up 32.8% on year and 24.2% above five-year average

- SAGIS estimated South Africa's corn stocks as of December 31 were at 3.120 MMT vs. 3.802 MMT a month ago and 3.915 MMT a year ago

- SAGIS estimated S. Africa's May-Dec 2016/17 corn exports at 670,720 MT vs. 574,887 MT a year ago

SOYBEAN

- Informa Economics lowered its forecast of US 2017 soybean seedings to 88.647 million acres (35.88 mln ha) from 88.862 mln acres/35.96 mln ha in December

- Dr. Michael Cordonnier maintains his forecast of South America's 2016/17 soybean crop at 169.2 MMT (165.5 MMT in 2015/16)

- AgRural said Brazilian farmers have sold 37% of the 2016/17 soybean crop compared to 48% sold at this time last year and an average 44% sold in the past five years

- Japan's December soybean imports rose 2.2% on year to 248,849 MT, incl. 222,576 MT from the US (+32.4%). For the full year of 2016, Japan has imported 3.132 MMT of soybeans, down 3.4% from year-ago (2.239 MMT from US, down 4.0% y/y)

- Surveyor Intertek Testing Services estimated Malaysia's January 1-25 palm oil exports at 924,282 MT up 9.3% from a month ago

- Surveyor SGS estimated Malaysia's January 1-25 palm oil exports at 904,257 MT up 9.3% from a month ago

- China's sunflower oil imports climbed to 956,504 MT in January-December 2016, up 46.9% from a year-ago (650,931 MT in 2015). Top suppliers in 2016 included Ukraine (705,626 MT), Russia (137,477 MT), Argentina (94,112 MT) and Kazakhstan (9,402 MT)
