WHEAT

- Jan 19 - Japan bought 117,605 MT of food wheat for Feb-Apr shipment:

  • 14,160 MT of western white US wheat;
  • 19,505 MT of hard red winter US wheat;
  • 34,390 MT of dark northern spring US wheat;
  • 49,550 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat

- Jan 18 - Morocco's ONICL bought 390,000 MT of EU soft wheat for arrival by April 30 under a preferential tariff agreement

- Jan 18 - Jordan bought 50,000 MT of optional origin milling wheat from Casillo Commodities at 207.5 $/mt c&f for June 1-15 shipment

- Jan 18 - Philippines importers bought about 165,000 MT of feed wheat: 2x55 TMT at around 199 $/mt c&f and 55 TMT at about 198.50 $/mt c&f for April, May and June arrival

- Jan 18 - Argentina grants export licenses for 284,777 MT of milling wheat

- Jan 18 - China auctioned 1,025 MT of imported wheat from state reserves, or 1.1% of the offered amount (94,016 MT), at a price of 2,550 RMB/mt (373 $/mt)

- Rosselkhoznadzor said that 18,000 MT of Russian wheat, seized by Egypt at an Alexandria port in November, could be released by local officials after fumigation

- Bulgaria's Ag Min said Bulgaria exported 1.339 MMT of wheat via port Varna between July 4-Jan 15, 2016/17, up 13.5% from a year-ago (1.18 MMT)

- Kazakh Ag Min said Kazakhstan exported 4.466 MMT of grain between July 1-January 10, 2016/17 vs. 4.597 MMT a year ago, incl. flour – 1.658 MMT in wheat equivalent vs. 1.568 MMT in the same period of 2015/16

- EU in week ended January 13 awarded licenses to import 21,264 MT of Ukrainian wheat under an annual duty-free quota. The award meant that the EU had now awarded 62% (591,560 MT) out of a total volume of 960,000 MT available in 2017

- According to TAXUD, the EU this season in period of Jul 1-Jan 17, 2016/17 exported 13.644 MMT of soft wheat compared to 14.083 MMT a year ago

- Strategie Grains lowered its forecast for the 2017 soft wheat harvest in the EU by 1.2 MMT to 143.8 MMT (135.9 MMT in 2016) as it factored in expected damage to crops in the eastern EU due to severe cold weather this month. EU soft wheat exports in 2017/18 were projected at 26.5 MMT, up from 23 MMT expected in 2016/17

- International Grains Council (IGC) raised its forecast for world wheat production in 2016/17 by 3 MMT to record high 752 MMT (736 MMT in 2015/16), mainly reflecting an improved outlook for Australia. Global wheat ending stocks were left at 235 MMT (221 MMT in 2015/16). Prospects for 2017/18 winter wheat remain broadly favourable across the northern hemisphere, with concerns about dry and occasionally chilly weather mainly confined to parts of the US and Europe

CORN

- Jan 19 - USDA announced export sales of 110,400 MT of US corn for delivery to unknown destinations during 2016/17

- Jan 19 - Jordan bought 50,000 MT of optional origin feed barley at around 180 $/mt c&f for June 16-30 shipment

- Jan 18 - Argentina grants export licenses for 160,690 MT of corn

- Philippine Ag Min said in a statement the domestic corn harvest this year is seen hitting 8.1 MMT, ahead of both projected 5.6 MMT domestic requirement and last year's output of 7.5 MMT, so Philippines may be able to export corn for the first time ever

- EU in week ended Jan 13 awarded licenses to import 7,300 MT of Ukrainian barley under an annual duty-free quota. The award meant that the EU had now awarded 4.93% (13,300 MT) out of a total volume of 270,000 MT available in 2017

- EU this season in period of Jul 1-Jan 17, 2016/17 imported 5.526 MMT of corn (maize) vs. 7.33 MMT a year ago

- IGC raised its forecast for the 2016/17 world corn crop by 3 MMT to a record 1.045 billion tonnes, mainly reflecting improved prospects in China. IGC increased its forecast for 2016/17 global corn carryover by 1 MMT from November to 225 MMT (209 MMT in 2015/16)

- Greece reported an outbreak of the H5N8 bird flu virus among laying hens on a farm in the southern part of the country

SOYBEAN

- Jan 19 - South Korea's Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp bought 140,000 MT of US non-GM yellow soybean for 2018 arrival in 5 consignments from Pan Ocean Corporation (2x25 TMT for Feb and Aug arrival) and CJ International Asia (3x30 TMT for Jan, Apr and Jun arrival)

- Jan 18 - Argentina grants export licenses for 225,000 MT of soybeans and 882,000 MT of soymeal

- IGC lowered its forecast for 2016/17 global soybean production by 2 MMT to a record 334 MMT (316 MMT in 2015/16). IGC cut global 2016/17 soybean carryover by 3 MMT from November to 35 MMT (34 MMT in 2015/16)

- Jan 18 - China sold 98,801 MT of rapeseed oil produced in 2013 from state reserves or 100% of the offered amount at auction at an average price of 6,777 RMB/mt (990 $/mt). Since Oct 12, 2016, the accumulated traded quantity was 1,485,266 MT
