WHEAT

- Jan 13 - Tunisia's state grains agency seeks 100,000 MT of optional origin durum wheat in four consignments of 25,000 MT for Feb-April shipment

- Jan 12 - Jordan Silos & Supply General Company has made no purchase in an international tender to buy up to 30,000 MT of optional-origin hard milling wheat for Jan-Feb shipment

- Jan 12 - Japan bought 162,777 MT of food wheat for Feb 21-Mar 20 shipment:

  • 45,925 MT of western white US wheat;
  • 14,140 MT of hard red winter US wheat;
  • 46,711 MT of dark northern spring US wheat;
  • 56,001 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat

- Jan 11 - Argentina grants export licenses for 9,634 MT of wheat flour

- EU in week ended January 6 awarded licenses to import 570,296 MT of Ukrainian wheat under an annual duty-free quota. The award meant that the EU had now awarded 59% out of a total volume of 960,000 MT available in 2017

- According to TAXUD, the EU this season in period of Jul 1-Jan 10, 2016/17 exported 13.16 MMT of soft wheat compared to 13.259 MMT a year ago

- Weekly US wheat export sales data for week ended Jan 5 totalled 391,000 MT for 2016/17 (within trade expectations for 250-450 TMT). Export commitments for 2016/17 are running 33% ahead of year-ago

- Jan 10 - China sold 375,000 MT of wheat from state reserves or 14 % of the of the offered amount (2,673,868 MT) at auction at average price of 2,508 RMB/mt (362 $/mt)

- Jan 11 - China auctioned 7,595 MT of imported wheat 2013 US soft red winter from state reserves, or 7.5% of the offered amount (101,042 MT), at a price of 2,500 RMB/mt (361 $/mt)

- Philippine grains traders have purchased just over 53,000 MT of rice from Thailand and Vietnam in recent weeks

CORN

- Jan 19 - Iran's SLAL seeks 180,000 MT of barley from the EU, Australia, Ukraine and Russia; and 120,000 MT of corn from Brazil, Ukraine and Russia for February shipment

- Jan 12 - USDA announced export sales of 363,488 MT of US corn for delivery during 2016/17:

  • 110,000 MT to Japan;
  • 253,488 MT to unknown destinations

- Jan 12 - South Korea's Major Feedmill Group (MFG) rejected all offers and made no purchases in an international tender to buy up to 70,000 MT of optional origin corn for May 5 arrival, citing too high prices. The lowest offer was 189.95 $/mt c&f on a flat price basis from Cargill

- Jan 11 - Argentina grants export licenses for 11,000 MT of barley

- Agroconsult raised its forecast of Brazil's 2016/17 corn crop to a record 94.9 MMT, up from a November estimate of 92 MMT and vs. 72 MMT in 2015/16

- Weekly US corn export sales data for week ended Jan 5 of 755,000 MT incl. 603,300 MT for 2016/17 (in line with trade expectations for 500-800 TMT). Export commitments for 2016/17 are running 72% ahead of year-ago

- EU has awarded all of the 450,000 MT of Ukrainian maize imports available in 2017 under a tariff-free quota after offers exceeded the total volume in a first bidding round last week (Jan 1-6)

- EU in week ended Jan 6 awarded licenses to import 6,000 MT of Ukrainian barley under an annual duty-free quota of 270,000 MT available in 2017

- Zimbabwe maize crop threatened by armyworm pest that affecting crops in eight out of Zimbabwe's 10 provinces. Also Malawi reported an outbreak of armyworms

- US Ethanol production for the week ended Jan 6 rose by 6,000 barrels to a record 1,049,000 barrels per day, up 4.4% from last year's level of 1,003,000 bpd. Stocks climbed by 1,331,000 barrels from the week prior to 20.009 million barrels but still down 6.3% vs. 21.345 million barrels a year ago

- CNGOIC lowered its expectation of DDGS imports to China in 2016/17 to less than 1 MMT from 2 MMT earlier, after introducing high anti-dumping duties on US DDGS

SOYBEAN

- Jan 11 - Argentina grants export licenses for 288,000 MT of soymeal; 7,000 MT of soybean oil and 5,000 MT of soybean

- Jan 11 - Argentina grants export licenses for 15,656 MT of sunflower oil

- Indonesian importers recently purchased about 80,000 MT of Argentine soymeal largely for Feb-Mar shipment

- Weekly US soybean export sales data for week ended Jan 5 of 291,900 MT, incl. 348,900 MT for 2016/17 (below the low end of a range of trade estimates of 500-800 TMT). Export commitments for 2016/17 are running 24% ahead of year-ago

- Agroconsult raised its forecast of Brazil's 2016/17 soybean crop to a record 104.4 MMT from 102.6 MMT in November and vs. 96.3 MMT in 2015/16

- Celeres forecasts Brazil's 2016/17 soybean crop at 105 MMT, up 8.2% from last crop

- CNGOIC expects that China's high duties on US DDGS would likely boost demand for soymeal and imports of soybeans

- Jan 11 - China sold 99,442 MT of rapeseed oil produced in 2013 from state reserves or 100% of the offered amount at auction at an average price of 6,549 RMB/mt (945 $/mt). Since Oct 12, 2016, the accumulated traded quantity was 1,386,465 MT
