WHEAT

- Jan 12 - Japan seeks 162,777 MT of food wheat for Feb 21-Mar 20 shipment:

  • 45,925 MT of western white US wheat;
  • 14,140 MT of hard red winter US wheat;
  • 46,711 MT of dark northern spring US wheat;
  • 56,001 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat

- Jan 9 - Jordan has again made no purchase in an international tender to buy 25,000 MT of optional origin hard milling wheat

- Jan 9 - USDA announced export sales of 120,000 MT of US hard red spring wheat for delivery to unknown destinations during 2016/17

- US wheat export inspections for week, ending Jan 5, recorded 260,555 MT, below market expectations (300-500 TMT). Inspections for 2016/17 are running 25.9% ahead of year-ago

- Jan 9 - Argentina grants export licenses for 90,994 MT of milling wheat

- A substantial snow layer has protected Ukrainian and Russian winter crops from severe frosts which came this weekend

- Ukraine's Ag Min said Ukraine exported 23.072 MMT of grain between July 1-Jan 6, 2016/17, up 6.7% from 21.624 MMT for the same period last season, including:

  • wheat – 11.504 MMT (vs. 10.534 MMT a year ago);
  • barley – 4.328 MMT (3.916 MMT);
  • corn – 7.134 MMT (7.042 MMT);
  • others – 106 TMT (132 TMT)

- Conab raised its Brazil's 2016 wheat crop estimate from 6.697 to 6.727 MMT (5.535 MMT in 2015)

CORN

- Jan 10 - USDA announced export sales of 371,600 MT of US corn for delivery:

  • 130,000 MT to Taiwan during 2016/17;
  • 241,600 MT to unknown destinations during 2016/17 (91.3 TMT) and 2017/18 (150.3 TMT)

- Jan 9 - USDA announced export sales of 112,500 MT of US corn for delivery to unknown destinations during 2016/17

- US corn export inspections for week, ending Jan 5, reported 876,562 MT, topped market forecasts (600-800 TMT). Inspections for 2016/17 are running 78.4% ahead of year-ago

- Conab forecasts Brazil's 2016/17 corn crop at 84.48 MMT (83.818 MMT previous estimate), sharply higher than 66.571 MMT last season with second crop at 56.08 MMT (40.72 MMT in 2015/16). Conab expects Brazil to export 24 MMT of corn (18.0 MMT in 2015/16). Ending stocks are forecasted to recover to 12.865 MMT from 7.984 MT in 2015/16

SOYBEAN

- Jan 9 - Argentina grants export licenses for 10,000 MT of soybean oil

- US soybean export inspections for week, ending Jan 5, reported 1,457,230 MT, above market expectations that ranged from 1.1 to 1.4 MMT. Inspections for the 2016/17 marketing year are running 18% ahead of year-ago

- Conab forecasts Brazil's 2016/17 soy output at 103.778 MMT, up from previous forecast of 102.447 MMT and above than 95.435 MMT last year. Conab raised its forecast of Brazilian soybean exports in 2016/17 to 57 MMT from 56.5 MMT in Dec (51.591 MMT in 2015/16). Ending stocks are forecasted to recover to 2.048 MMT from 1.469 MMT in 2015/16

- AgRural raised its forecast of Brazil's 2016/17 soybean crop to 103.1 MMT from 101.8 MMT last month

- MPOB estimated Malaysian crude palm oil production in December at 1.474 MMT, ahead average expectation of 1.45 MMT but down from 1.575 MMT in November with end-stocks at 1.665 MMT up 0.2% on month and above the average market expectation of 1.61 MMT. Malaysian December palm oil exports fell to 1.268 MMT, down 7.5% on month and below the average expectation of 1.32 MMT

- Surveyor Intertek Testing Services estimated Malaysia's January 1-10 palm oil exports at 351,907 MT up 8.1% from a month ago

- Surveyor SGS estimated Malaysia's January 1-10 palm oil exports at 338,777 MT up 10.7% from a month ago

- Indonesia Estate Crop Fund said Indonesia exported 25.7 MMT of palm oil in 2016, down from 26.2 MMT in the previous year
