- Jan 4 - Algeria's OAIC bought 475,000 MT of optional-origin milling wheat, likely from Argentina and EU (including France, Germany, Finland, Sweden and the UK) for March shipment:

- Jan 5 - Argentina grants export licenses for 154,950 MT of milling wheat

- Kazakh Ag Min said Kazakhstan exported 4.417 MMT of grain between July 1-December 31, 2016/17 vs. 4.347 MMT a year ago, incl. flour – 1.64 MMT in wheat equivalent vs. 1.497 MMT in the same period of 2015/16

- Weekly US wheat export sales data for week ended Dec 29 totalled 183,700 MT for 2016/17 (below the trade expectations for 200-500 TMT). Export commitments for 2016/17 are running 33% ahead of year-ago

- US wheat export inspections for week, ending Dec 29, recorded 395,417 MT, within market expectations (300-500 TMT). Inspections for 2016/17 are running 27.8% ahead of year-ago

- Argentina in December granted export licenses for 2.415 MMT of milling wheat and 53,022 MT of wheat flour

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange kept its forecast of Argentine 2016/17 wheat crop at 15 MMT unchanged from prior week, up 39% from 2015/16 crop (10.8 MMT). Harvesting of Argentine wheat crop was 94.9% completed as of Jan 5, ahead of last year's pace of 87%

- Egypt's government plans to buy the local wheat crop at global prices in the coming season

- According to TAXUD, the EU this season in period of Jul 1-Jan 3, 2016/17 exported 12.868 MMT of soft wheat compared to 12.726 MMT a year ago

- Bulgaria's Ag Min said Bulgaria exported 1.286 MMT of wheat via port Varna between July 4-Jan 1, 2016/17, up 20.9% from a year-ago (1.064 MMT)

- Jan 4 - China auctioned 980 MT of imported wheat from state reserves, or 1.1% of the offered amount (92,300 MT), at a price of 2,550 RMB/mt (367 $/mt)

- Jan 3 - China sold 318,895 MT of wheat from state reserves or 12.1% of the of the offered amount (2,636,922 MT) at auction at average price of 2,506 RMB/mt (360 $/mt)

CORN

- Jan 5 - Taiwan's MFIG group bought 65,000 MT of US-origin corn from Cargill at a premium of 119.43 USc/bushel c&f over the Chicago July 2017 contract (around 194.35 USD/mt, c&f) for April 1-20 shipment from US PNW

- Jan 5 - Argentina grants export licenses for 60,000 MT of barley and 13,000 MT of malt

- Argentina issued 1.199 MMT of corn export licenses in December

- Argentina in December granted export licenses for 526,477 MT of barley and 67,061 MT of malt

- Argentina issued 21,190 MT of sorghum export licenses in December

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange kept its forecast for Argentine 2016/17 corn acreage at 4.9 mln ha (3.85 mln ha in 2015/16). Exchange estimates 82.9% of the crop has been planted as of Jan 5, slightly behind last year's pace of 83.3%

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange lowered its forecast for Argentine 2016/17 barley crop to 3 MMT from 3.15 MMT previously, down 29.4% from 2015/16 crop (4.25 MMT). Harvesting of Argentine barley crop was 88.2% completed as of Jan 5 vs. last year's pace of 73.1%

- US Ethanol production for the week ended Dec 30 rose by 15,000 barrels to a record 1,043,000 barrels per day, up 4.7% from last year's level of 996,000 bpd. Meanwhile stocks fell by 5,000 barrels from the week prior to 18.678 million barrels and down 11.5% vs. 21.099 million barrels a year ago

- US corn consumed for fuel alcohol was 452 million bushels in November 2016, down 1% from October 2016 but up 4% from November 2015

- US dry mill co-product production of distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGs) was 1.96 million tons during November 2016, up 2% from October 2016 and up 3% from November 2015

- US wet mill corn gluten feed production was 309 thousand tons during November 2016, down 10% from October 2016 and down 4% from November 2015

- EIA estimated US ethanol production for October at 30.797 million barrels versus 29.876 million barrels in September and vs. 29.886 million barrels a year ago

- EIA reported October ethanol inventory at 20.005 million barrels, which is 5.4% higher from last year, but down 2.9% from September

SOYBEAN

- Jan 5 - Argentina grants export licenses for 916,200 MT of soymeal and 16,000 MT of soybean oil

- Argentina in December issued a total of 44,490 MT of soybean export licenses; 2.22 MMT of soymeal licenses and 115,522 MT of soybean oil licenses

- Argentina in December granted export licenses for 22,123 MT of sunflower oil and 66,380 MT of sunflower meal

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange lowered its estimate of Argentina's 2016/17 soybean acreage to 19.3 mln ha from 19.6 mln ha week ago, down 4% from the previous crop year (20.1 mln ha in 2015/16). Exchange estimates 92.9% of the crop has been planted as of Jan 5, in line with last year pace

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange forecasts Argentine 2016/17 sunflower crop at 3.5 MMT, up 40% from 2015/16 crop (2.5 MMT). Harvesting of Argentine sunflower crop was 8.5% completed as of Jan 5 vs. last year's pace of 9.4%

- FCStone raised its forecast for Brazil's 2016/17 soy crop to 102.8 MMT from 102.1 MMT last month and vs. 95.4 MMT in 2015/16

- Weekly US soybean export sales data for week ended Dec 29 of 87,700 MT, incl. 87,500 MT for 2016/17 (sharply below the low end of a range of trade estimates of 0.8-1.2 MMT). Export commitments for 2016/17 are running 26% ahead of year-ago

- US soybean export inspections for week, ending Dec 29, reported 1,578,703 MT, in line with market expectations that ranged from 1.3 to 1.7 MMT. Inspections for the 2016/17 marketing year are running 18% ahead of year-ago

- USDA estimated US November soybean crush for crude oil at 5.122 million short tons, just below the average market expectation (5.129 mln tons, or 171 mln bu) but up from 4.974 mln tons a year ago. Crude soyoil stocks rose to 1.449 billion lbs as of November 30 from 1.437 in October, but below the 1.545 bln lbs a year ago, while refined oil stocks were at 328,726 million lbs as of Nov 30 vs. 357,828 in Oct and 420,677 in Nov 2015. November US soy cake and meal stocks rose to 361,959 tons from 335,413 in October and 342,962 tons a year-ago

- EIA said US October biodiesel production at 142 million gallons vs. 135 million gallons in September and vs. 106 million gallons a year ago

- EIA said 526 million lbs. of soybean oil used for biodiesel in October (52% of feedstock used to produce biodiesel) vs. 537 million lbs. in September and vs. 408 million lbs. a year ago

- Jan 4 - China sold 97,876 MT of rapeseed oil produced in 2013 from state reserves or 99.4% of the offered amount (98,476 MT) at auction at an average price of 6,730 RMB/mt (969 $/mt). Since Oct 12, 2016, the accumulated traded quantity was 1,287,023 MT
