WHEAT

- Dec 21 - Taiwan Flour Millers' Association bought 93,125 MT of US milling wheat in two consignments:

  • The first consignment was bought from Cargill and has an additional charge of 25.11 $/mt for ocean shipping from the US Pacific North West coast to Taiwan for shipment between February 11-25:
    • 30,350 MT of dark northern spring wheat (14.5% protein) at 279.71 $/mt fob;
    • 14,000 MT of hard red winter wheat (12.5% protein) at 231.96 $/mt fob;
    • 10,025 MT of soft white wheat (9% protein) at 192.35 $/mt fob.
  • The second consignment was bought from CHS and has an additional charge of 29.72 $/mt for ocean shipping from the US Pacific North West coast to Taiwan for shipment between Feb 28-March 14:
    • 26,100 MT of dark northern spring wheat (14.5% protein) at 270.29 $/mt fob;
    • 12,650 MT of hard red winter (12.5% protein) at 222.65 $/mt fob

- Dec 21 - Philippines bought 25,400 MT of Australian milling wheat from CBH at 195 $/mt c&f for April 1-30 shipment

- Dec 21 - Japan bought 6,700 MT of feed wheat for March 3 arrival via SBS-tender. It will skip auctions for at least the next two weeks due to end-year and new year holidays

- Dec 20 - Egypt's GASC bought 360,000 MT of wheat (180 TMT from Russia, 120 TMT from Argentina and 60 TMT from Romania) for January 20-31 shipment:

  • 60,000 MT of Argentine wheat from Glencore at 196.53 $/mt c&f (173.00 $/mt fob+23.53 $/mt freight);
  • 60,000 MT of Russian wheat from Louis Dreyfus at 196.64 $/mt c&f (186.74 $/mt fob+9.90 $/mt freight);
  • 60,000 MT of Argentine wheat from Louis Dreyfus at 197.15 $/mt c&f (173.50 $/mt fob+23.65 $/mt freight);
  • 60,000 MT of Romanian wheat from Cereal Com at 197.75 $/mt c&f (187.00 $/mt fob+10.75 $/mt freight)
  • 60,000 MT of Russian wheat from AOS/Friends at 198.50 $/mt c&f (187.00 $/mt fob+11.50 $/mt freight);
  • 60,000 MT of Russian wheat from Aston at 198.50 $/mt c&f (187.00 $/mt fob+11.50 $/mt freight)

- Egypt's strategic wheat reserves are sufficient to last until the beginning of April

- Indian importers purchased around 50,000 MT of wheat from Australia (Australian premium white (APW) and Australian standard white (ASW) wheat) for February 2017 shipment

- Dec 21 - Argentina grants export licenses for 116,033 MT of milling wheat

- Dec 20 - Argentina grants export licenses for 135,200 MT of milling wheat

- Dec 20 - China sold 381,099 MT of wheat from state reserves or 14.5% of the of the offered amount (2,623,663 MT) at auction at average price of 2,511 RMB/mt (361 $/mt)

- China's November wheat imports down 86% on year to 27,557 MT. China's Jan-Nov wheat imports rose 14.2% on year to 3.151 MMT

- Weekly US wheat export sales data for week ended Dec 15 totalled 297,800 MT for 2016/17 (just below the trade expectations for 300-500 TMT). Export commitments for 2016/17 are running 32% ahead of year-ago

- SovEcon cut its forecast for Russia's 2016/17 grain exports to 38.7 MMT from 39.1 MMT due to a strengthening of the rouble currency against the dollar. Its forecast for wheat exports was reduced by 500,000 MT to 28.5 MMT

- Ukraine's Ag Min has slightly revised its grain harvest forecast for 2016 to 64.2 MMT from the previously expected 64 MMT

- Ukraine's Ag Min said Ukraine exported 21.22 MMT of grain between July 1-Dec 22, 2016, up 4.7% from 20.26 MMT for the same period last year, including:

  • wheat – 10.88 MMT (vs. 9.91 MMT a year ago);
  • barley – 4.25 MMT (3.89 MMT);
  • corn – 5.99 MMT (6.35 MMT)

- Ukrainian grain stocks were at 28.429 MMT as of December 1, down 7.8% from a year earlier, incl. 10.125 MMT of wheat (12.526 MMT a year ago), 2.379 MMT of barley (2.213 MMT a year ago) and 14.594 MMT of corn (14.709 MMT a year ago). The data does not include grain stored at small farms

- According to TAXUD, the EU this season in period of Jul 1-Dec 20, 2016/17 exported 11.901 MMT of soft wheat compared to 11.929 MMT a year ago

- Bulgaria's Ag Min said Bulgaria exported 1.247 MMT of wheat via port Varna between July 4-Dec 18, 2016/17, up 29.1% from a year-ago (965,640 MT)

- German's state statistics office estimated winter wheat area planted for the summer 2017 harvest at 3.15 million hectares, 0.4% higher on the year

- South Africa's Crop Estimates Committee (CEC) raised its winter wheat production forecast for this year to 1.876 MMT from 1.766 MMT in prior month, up 30.3% over the previous season's crop of 1.44 MMT
