- Dec 14 - Philippines bought an unknown volume of milling wheat and feed wheat from Australia for April-May arrival. The milling wheat was bought at about 240 $/mt c&f and the feed wheat at about 200 $/mt c&f

- Russia's Ag Min said Russia exported about 18.283 MMT of grain between July 1-Dec 14, 2016/17, down by 1.8% from 18.618 MMT a year ago, including:

  • wheat – 14.317 MMT (14.05 MMT a year ago);
  • barley – 1.797 MMT (2.86 MMT);
  • corn – 2.051 MMT (1.552 MMT);
  • others – 119 TMT (155 TMT)

- Russia has 3,914,600 MT of grain in its federal intervention fund as of December 16 vs. 2,325,600 MT a year ago

- USDA attaché raised its estimate of India's wheat imports in 2016/17 to 3.7 MMT (3 MMT – USDA's official projection), while 2016/17 ending stocks were lowered to 8 MMT (11 MMT – USDA's official projection)

- Pakistan has set the wheat production target at a record 26 MMT for the 2016/17 Rabi (winter) crop that will be harvested in April and May of 2017. During the last marketing year, the government also set a target of 26 MMT, but drier than normal weather and high temperatures resulted in lower yields and 2016 production of 25.3 MMT

- Japan's November grain imports up 19.6% on year to 2.115 MMT, incl. 1.315 MMT from the US (+63.0%)

- Ukraine's Ag Min said that around 95% winter crops were emerged vs. 86% a year ago; about 83% of emerged crops were in good and satisfactory condition vs. 67% last year and 17% were in poor condition vs. 33% a year ago

- Ukraine declared the country's largest lender PrivatBank insolvent and said bringing it under state ownership was the only way to protect the money of 20 million Ukrainian clients and stave off threats to the financial system


- Japan's Ministry will resume its simultaneous buy and sell (SBS) auctions for feed wheat and barley imports after the auction system was revised to improve transparency. New SBS tender for 120,000 MT of feed wheat and 200,000 MT of feed barley will be held on Dec 21

- Safras & Mercado raised its Brazil's 2016/17 soybean crop projection to 106.1 MMT from previous forecast of 103.5 MMT in October and 9.2% above the 2015/16 season

- Oil World estimates 2016/17 South American soybean crop at 170.1 MMT, 4.6 MMT above last season. The Argentine crop may drop to 53 MMT (55.3 MMT in 2015/16)

- Japan's November soybean imports fell 15.5% on year to 209,155 MT, incl. 162,770 MT from the US (-16.2%)

- Oil World anticipates only a moderate recovery in the 2017 EU rapeseed crop by 1.4-1.8 MMT from the 5-year low of 20 MMT in 2016
