WHEAT

- Ethiopia cancelled tender to buy 70,000 MT of wheat. The tender had been due to close on Dec 15

- Dec 13 - Argentina grants export licenses for 79,135 MT of milling wheat

- Ukraine's Ag Min said Ukraine exported 19.749 MMT of grain between July 1-Dec 13, 2016, up 3.8% from 19.018 MMT for the same period last year, including:

  • wheat – 10.476 MMT (vs. 9.434 MMT a year ago);
  • barley – 4.062 MMT (3.853 MMT);
  • corn – 5.132 MMT (5.61 MMT);
  • others – 79 TMT (121 TMT)

- Ukrainian farmers have planted winter crops for the 2017 harvest at 6.952 mln ha, incl. wheat on 5.911 mln ha. Ukraine's Ag Min said that around 93% winter crops were emerged vs. 86% a year ago; about 83% of emerged crops were in good and satisfactory condition vs. 67% last year and 17% were in poor condition vs. 33% a year ago

- Dec 14 - Russia bought 22,275 MT of intervention grain (all wheat) via tender on the NTB (National Trade Exchange, Moscow Exchange). Making the total bought since Sep 19 at 906,795 MT of 2016/17 grain (855,900 MT of wheat and 50,895 MT of barley)

- Russia's Ag Min estimates Russia's 2016/17 grain crop at 117 MMT (incl. 72 MT of wheat, thereof 83% of food wheat) and forecasts 2016/17 grain exports at 35 MMT

- Dec 14 - China auctioned 11,998 MT of 2013 imported wheat from state reserves, or 17.1% of the offered amount (69,978 MT), at an average price of 2,536 RMB/mt (367 $/mt)

- FranceAgriMer lowered its estimate of French 2016/17 soft wheat production by 155,000 MT to 27.992 MMT, down 31.6% from a record 2015/16 crop. Wheat stocks are forecasted at 2.683 MMT (2.478 MMT – previously) at the end of 2016/17, down from 3.325 MMT last year. Projected exports outside the EU were unchanged from last month at 4.7 MMT, down 62.8% from 12.62 MMT in 2015/16, while forecast shipments within the EU were cut to 6.135 MMT from November estimate of 6.3 MMT and 7.804 MMT in 2015/16

- UK exported 145,437 MT of wheat in October, below than 252,429 MT in September and down 31% from a year-ago, including 59,266 MT to Algeria, 28,743 MT to the Netherlands and 25,435 MT to Italy. Cumulative exports for the season, which started on July 1, 2016, totalled 858,730 MT, up from 536,126 MT during the same period prior season

- UK imported 91,783 MT of wheat in October, below than 154,800 MT in September and down 36.8% from a year-ago, including 28,412 MT from Canada. Britain's Jul-Oct wheat imports totalled 520,310 MT, down from 594,602 MT a year ago

- Algeria's grain imports were 11.28 MMT in the first ten months of 2016, up 0.7% from the same period a year earlier. Soft wheat purchases fell 5.5% to 5.34 MMT, while durum wheat imports rose 25.2% to 1.6 MMT

CORN

- Dec 13 - Argentina grants export licenses for 19,200 MT of malt

- Dr. Michael Cordonnier left his forecast of South America's 2016/17 corn crop unchanged this week at 125.3 MMT compared to 97.2 MMT in 2015/16

- FranceAgriMer lowered its estimate of France's 2016/17 corn crop to 11.452 MMT (11.805 MMT – previous forecast) vs. 13.059 MMT last year with the carryout projected at 2.467 MMT against 2.032 MMT in November and 2.463 MMT in 2015/16. France's 2016/17 corn export is forecasted at 5.105 MMT (5.37 MMT – previous forecast) vs. 6.328 MMT a year ago

- FranceAgriMer estimated France's 2016/17 barley crop at 10.113 MMT (10.022 MMT – previous forecast) vs. 13.028 MMT last year with the carryout lowered to 1.914 MMT from 2.221 MMT in Nov and against 1.28 MMT in 2015/16. France's 2016/17 barley exports (without malt) is expected at 4.545 MMT (4.26 MMT in November) down 40.9% from 7.686 MMT a year ago

- UK corn imports fell in October to 132,956 MT from 161,409 MT in September, but slightly up from a year-ago, including 37,206 MT from France, 30,157 MT from Bulgaria and 26,302 MT from Argentina. Britain's Jul-Oct corn imports totalled 527,840 MT vs. 570,521 MT a year ago

- UK exported 71,684 MT of barley in October, slightly down from 73,334 MT in September and 47.5% below last year level. Top customers included the Netherlands (28,890 MT) and Spain (15,204 MT). Cumulative barley exports for 2016/17 totalled 430,098 MT compared to 507,050 MT in Jul-Oct 2015/16

- Algeria's Jan-Oct 2016 maize imports were 3.57 MMT, down 0.8% from the same period a year earlier (3.6 MMT)

- Algeria's Jan-Oct 2016 barley imports rose by 15% to 767,734 MT (667,819 MT a year ago)

SOYBEAN

- Dec 14 - China sold 99,481 MT of rapeseed oil produced in 2013 from state reserves or 100% of the offered amount at auction at an average price of 7,096 RMB/mt (1028 $/mt). Since Oct 12, 2016, the accumulated traded quantity was 990,566 MT

- Dr. Michael Cordonnier maintains his forecast of South America's 2016/17 soybean crop at 172.2 MMT (165.5 MMT in 2015/16)

- MPOB estimated Malaysian crude palm oil production in November at 1.575 MMT, behind average expectation of 1.63 MMT and down from 1.678 MMT in October with end-stocks at 1.656 MMT up 5.2% on month but below the average market expectation of 1.69 MMT. Malaysian November palm oil exports fell to 1.37 MMT, down 4.2% on month but above the average expectation of 1.29 MMT

- Surveyor SGS estimated Malaysia's December 1-10 palm oil exports at 305,990 MT down 12% from a month ago
