WHEAT

- Dec 15 - Japan seeks 122,847 MT of food wheat for Jan 16-Feb 15 shipment:

  • 15,462 MT of western white US wheat;
  • 19,200 MT of hard red winter US wheat;
  • 34,390 MT of dark northern spring US wheat;
  • 53,795 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat

- Dec 14 - Tunisia seeks up to 92,000 MT of soft milling wheat and 50,000 MT of durum wheat for Jan-Mar shipment

- Dec 14 - Philippines seeks up to 56,000 MT of feed wheat from Australia or the Black Sea region for April 1-May 5 arrival

- Dec 12 - Argentina grants export licenses for 115,000 MT of milling wheat

- US wheat export inspections for week, ending Dec 8, recorded 440,805 MT, in line with trade expectations (300-500 TMT). Inspections for 2016/17 are running 28.6% ahead of year-ago

- ABARES raised its forecast of 2016/17 Australian wheat export to 22.414 MMT from previous estimate of 18.4 MMT in September and by 41.8% above last year's shipments of 15.777 MMT, supported by record wheat production. If realised, this will be the second-largest export volume on record after 2011/12. Indonesia is expected to increase wheat imports for human consumption but to reduce overall wheat imports because of decreased feed wheat demand. China and India are expected to increase milling wheat imports to supplement poor quality domestic harvests. In the first quarter of 2016/17, India imported more wheat from Australia than in any full year since 2006/07

- France's farm ministry trimmed its estimate of the country's 2016 soft wheat crop to 27.99 MMT from 28.15 MMT forecasted in November, down 31.6% from last year (40.91 MMT in 2015) and 24.2% below the five-year average

- France's farm ministry estimated the area sown with winter soft wheat for the 2017 harvest at 5.191 million hectares, up 0.2% compared with this year (5.182 mln ha) and 3.5% above the five-year average

- Russian farmers harvested 75.86 MMT of wheat from 98.2% of the planned area as of Dec 12, up from 63.89 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.79 mt/ha up from 2.51 mt/ha a year ago

- Russian farmers have planted 17.37 million hectares (100.1% of the planned area) of winter crops as of Dec 12 vs. 16.32 mln ha a year ago

- Dec 13 - Russia bought 22,275 MT of intervention grain (all wheat) via tender on the NTB (National Trade Exchange, Moscow Exchange). Making the total bought since Sep 19 at 884,520 MT of 2016/17 grain (833,625 MT of wheat and 50,895 MT of barley)

- Dec 13 - China sold 421,237 MT of wheat from state reserves or 15.6% of the of the offered amount (2,704,744 MT) at auction at average price of 2,500 RMB/mt (362 $/mt)

CORN

- Dec 14 - Tunisia seeks 50,000 MT of feed barley for Feb-Mar shipment

- Dec 12 - Argentina grants export licenses for 209,309 MT of corn

- Dec 12 - Argentina grants export licenses for 15,000 MT of barley

- US corn export inspections for week, ending Dec 8, reported 860,927 MT, below market forecasts (1-1.3 MMT). Inspections for 2016/17 are running 86.3% ahead of year-ago

- ABARES forecast that Australian coarse grain exports would rise by 30% in 2016/17 to 8.9 MMT as a result of forecast higher barley and oat production. ABARES increased its forecast of 2016/17 Australian barley export to 7.576 MMT from previous estimate of 6.94 MMT in September and by 37.8% above last year's level of 5.498 MMT. Malting barley exports are forecast to increase by 33% in 2016/17 to just over 2 MMT

- ABARES increased its forecast of 2016/17 Australian grain sorghum export to 858,000 MT from previous estimate of 826,000 MT in September, but down by 20.2% from 1,075,000 MT in 2015/16, reflecting a 29% fall in production combined with a significant reduction in import demand from China

- France's farm ministry lowered its estimate of the country's 2016 grain maize crop to 11.825 MMT from 12.3 MMT forecasted in November, down 12.3% from last year (13.49 MMT in 2015) and 23.3% below the five-year average

- France's farm ministry lifted the country's 2016 barley production estimate to 10.11 MMT from 10.02 MMT last month, down 22.4% from last year (13.03 MMT in 2015) and 8.4% below five-year average. French winter barley crop is estimated at 7.96 MMT (10 MMT in 2015), while spring crop at 2.15 MMT (3.02 MMT in 2015)

- France's farm ministry estimated the area sown with winter barley for the 2017 harvest at 1.378 million hectares, down 4.1% compared with this year (1.436 mln ha) but 11.6% above the five-year average

- Russian farmers harvested 19.07 MMT of barley from 97.3% of the planned area as of Dec 12, up from 18.26 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.35 mt/ha up from 2.23 mt/ha a year ago

- Russian farmers harvested 14.94 MMT of maize from 87.7% of the planned area as of Dec 12, up from 13.02 MT a year ago. Yields totalled 5.89 mt/ha up from 5.2 mt/ha a year ago

SOYBEAN

- Dec 13 - South Korea's Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp bought 30,000 MT of non-GM yellow soybean for 2018 arrival and plans to reissue a tender to buy another 140,000 MT

- Dec 12 - Argentina grants export licenses for 16,500 MT of soymeal and 13,403 MT of soybean oil

- US soybean export inspections for week, ending Dec 8, reported 1,837,632 MT, topping trade expectations that ranged from 1.3 to 1.6 MMT. Inspections for the 2016/17 marketing year are running 19.5% ahead of year-ago

- ABARES raised its forecast of 2016/17 Australian canola export to 2.78 MMT from previous estimate of 2.7 MMT in September and by 42.9% more than 1.946 MMT in 2015/16, reflecting a rise in Australian production and expected strong demand for Australian canola, due to a fall in production in the EU, a major importer, and reduced availability of supplies on the world market

- France's farm ministry lifted its estimate for 2016 French rapeseed output to 4.65 MMT from 4.62 MMT in Nov, down 12.3% from last year (5.31 MMT in 2015) and 10.6% below five-year average

- France's farm ministry estimated the area sown with winter rapeseed for the 2017 harvest at 1.445 million hectares, down 5.1% compared with this year (1.523 mln ha) and 4.3% below the five-year average

- France's farm ministry trimmed its estimate of the country's 2016 sunflower seed crop to 1.22 MMT from 1.24 MMT forecasted in Nov, up 3.2% from last year (1.19 MMT in 2015) but 21.6% below five-year average

- France's farm ministry trimmed its estimate for 2016 French soybean crop to 345 TMT from 358 TMT in Nov, up 3.1% from last year (334 TMT in 2015) and 91.9% above five-year average

- Russian farmers harvested 11.29 MMT of sunseed from 95.5% of the planned area as of Dec 12, up from 9.57 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 1.58 mt/ha up from 1.48 mt/ha a year ago

- Russian farmers harvested 3.17 MMT of soybean from 93.9% of the planned area as of Dec 12, up from 2.82 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 1.55 mt/ha up from 1.43 mt/ha a year ago
