WHEAT

- Weekly US wheat export sales data for week ended Nov 10 totalled 598,400 MT for 2016/17 (at the high end of trade expectations for 400-600 TMT). Export commitments for 2016/17 are running 29% ahead of year-ago

- Informa Economics lowered its estimates of US winter wheat plantings for harvest in 2017 to 33.761 million acres from 35.421 million and total US 2017 wheat seeding to 47.265 million acres (48.925 million acres in October), the fewest at least since 1919

- According to DG TAXUD, the EU in week ended Nov 15 exported 346 TMT of soft wheat, bringing the total this season, Jul-Jun 2016/17, to 8.955 MMT vs. 8.166 MMT a year ago

- FranceAgriMer estimated winter wheat planting 95% done as of Nov 14, behind of last year's pace of 97%; crop condition is estimated as 95% in good to excellent, unchanged from the prior week but below the year-ago score of 97%. Also French farmers have planted 70% of durum as of Nov 14 vs. 89% at the same time a year ago

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange forecasts Argentine 2016/17 wheat crop at 12.5 MMT, up 21.4% from 2015/16 crop (10.3 MMT). Harvesting of Argentine wheat crop was 12.1% completed as of Nov 17, behind of last year's pace of 13.9%

- Russian farmers harvested 75.81 MMT of wheat from 98.1% of the planned area as of Nov 17, up from 63.89 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.79 mt/ha up from 2.51 mt/ha a year ago

- Russian farmers have planted 17.23 million hectares (99.3% of the planned area) of winter crops as of Nov 17 vs. 16.27 mln ha a year ago

CORN

- Nov 17 - USDA announced export sales of 106,200 MT of US corn for delivery to unknown destinations during 2016/17

- Weekly US corn export sales data for week ended Nov 10 of 1,661,000 MT for 2016/17 (topping a range of trade expectations for 0.9-1.2 MMT). Export commitments for 2016/17 are running 90% ahead of year-ago

- Informa Economics lowered its forecast of US 2017 corn plantings to 90.841 million acres from 90.971 million acres in October

- China's Heilongjiang province will offer major processors subsidies of 300 yuan ($43.6) per MT of 2016 corn consumed. Corn must be bought between Nov 1, 2016, and the end of April 2017; and processed by the end of June 2017

- EU in week ended Nov 15 imported 99 TMT of corn (maize), taking the volume so far this season to 3.097 MMT vs. 3.579 MMT a year ago, according to TAXUD

- EU in week ended Nov 15 exported 25 TMT of corn, bringing the total this season to 882 TMT vs. 786 TMT a year ago

- EU in week ended Nov 15 exported 113 TMT of barley (excluding malting), bringing the total this season to 1.635 MMT vs. 4.842 MMT a year ago

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange kept its forecast for Argentine 2016/17 corn acreage at 4.9 mln ha (3.85 mln ha in 2015/16). Exchange estimates 40.3% of the crop has been planted as of Nov 17, ahead last year's pace of 37.1%

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange expects Argentine 2016/17 sorghum acreage at 800,000 ha, 6% decline from last year (850,000 ha in 2015/16). Exchange estimates 28.7% of the crop has been planted as of Nov 17, ahead last year's pace of 23.3%

- Japan's use of corn in animal feed was at 45.9% in September, 0.2% points lower versus August (46.1%) but 0.2% points above year-ago level (45.7% in Sept 2015). Its use of barley fell to 3.4% from month ago at 3.5% and vs. 3.4% a year ago; while wheat usage rose to 1.9% from 1.8% prior month and above year ago (1.6%). Japan's sorghum usage in feed rations stood at 2.5% for September, unchanged from August but down 0.5% points from the year prior (3% in Sept 2015)

- South Korea has confirmed the country's first outbreaks of the H5N6 bird flu virus and has ramped up quarantine measures in response

SOYBEAN

- Nov 18 - USDA announced export sales of 165,000 MT of US soybeans for delivery to China during 2016/17

- Weekly US soybean export sales data for week ended Nov 10 of 1,419,200 MT, incl. 1,418,700 MT for 2016/17 (in line with trade expectations of 1.2-1.5 MMT). Export commitments for 2016/17 are running 25% ahead of year-ago

- Informa Economics raised its forecast of US 2017 soybean seedings to a record high of 88.612 million acres from 88.487 million acres in October

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange expects Argentina's 2016/17 soybean acreage at 19.6 mln ha, down 2.5% from the previous crop year (20.1 mln ha in 2015/16). Exchange estimates 24.2% of the crop has been planted as of Nov 17 vs. 30.9% this time last year. The 2016/17 soy crop was expected at 53 MMT, down from 56 MMT a year earlier

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange left its estimate Argentina's 2016/17 sunseed acreage at 1.7 mln ha (1.22 mln ha in 2015/16). Exchange estimates 78.5% of the crop has been planted as of Nov 17 vs. 74.1% this time last year

- Ukrainian farmers harvested 13.257 MMT of sunseed from 98.6% of the planned area as of Nov 17, up from 11.027 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.27 mt/ha up from 2.2 mt/ha a year ago

- Ukrainian farmers harvested 3.983 MMT of soybean from 94.9% of the planned area as of Nov 17, up from 3.726 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.28 mt/ha up from 1.77 mt/ha a year ago
