WHEAT

- Sept 21 - Morocco's ONICL tenders to buy 300,000 MT of EU soft wheat, and 45,000 MT of EU durum under preferential tariff quota for arrival by Dec 31

- Sept 20 - Morocco's ONICL tenders to buy 300,000 MT of US soft wheat under preferential tariff quota for arrival by Dec 31

- Sept 7 - Syria's state buyer (Hoboob) postponed again a tender for 1 MMT of Russian wheat, now until Sept 19

- Flour millers in Asia in the past 10 days have signed deals to import up to 400,000 MT of new-crop Australian wheat for Dec-Jan shipment. Millers have bought Australian wheat, 10.5% protein, at 205-210 $/mt, c&f. In one of the latest deals for Australian wheat, Indonesia bought 100,000 MT for Dec-Jan shipment at about 210 $/mt, c&f. The Philippines took 30,000 MT of milling wheat and 60,000 MT of feed quality of Australian origin

- Sept 7 - Argentina grants export licenses for 30,000 MT of low protein wheat

- Sept 7 - China auctioned 10,034 MT of 2013 imported US #2 soft red winter wheat from state reserves, or 30.5% of the offered amount (32,867 MT), at an average price of 2,537 RMB/mt (381 $/mt)

- Egypt inspectors have rejected a 63,000 MT shipment of Romanian origin-wheat (for GASC) in a Romanian port after checks for the controversial ergot fungus

- Sept 8 - Russia bought 4,050 MT of intervention grain (all wheat) via tender on the Crimean Exchange. Making the total bought since Aug 19 at 28,755 MT of 2016/17 grain (26,325 MT of wheat and 2,430 MT of barley)

- Ukraine's Ag Min said Ukraine exported 7.213 MMT of grain between July 1- Sept 6, 2016/17, including: wheat – 4.203 MMT; barley – 2.408 MMT; corn – 575 TMT; others – 27 TMT. Also was exported 60,200 MT of wheat flour

- Statistics Canada (StatsCan) said Canadian wheat inventories fell 26.8% to 5.167 MMT as of Jul 31, 2016 the lowest level July 31 since 2008, but well above an average trade estimates of 4.29 MMT

- FAO raised its 2016 global wheat production estimate to record 740.7 MMT, up by 8.6 MMT from the July figure and vs. 733.7 MMT in 2015. Large revisions for wheat production in Australia, Canada, India, Russia, Ukraine and the US account for much of this month's upturn, which more than offset a significant cutback in the EU wheat crop forecast, mostly due to wet-weather damage in France. Forecast of the 2016/17 world wheat inventories was upped to record 233.3 MMT, 16.4 MMT more than reported in July and 7.9 MMT (3.5%) above last season

- CNGOIC expects China's wheat production in 2016 to decline 1.2% from last year to 128.6 MMT

- France shipped a total of 1.08 MMT of soft wheat abroad in July, the first month of 2016/17, down 14% from the same month last season. This included a 5% decrease in exports outside the EU to 652 TMT (incl. 290 TMT to Algeria and 108 TMT to India), and a 24% drop in intra-EU shipments to 432 TMT

- FranceAgriMer left wheat quality ratings nearly unchanged in its latest survey:

  • 63% of France's soft-wheat harvest had protein levels above 12.5%, down from 64% last week, but well above a five-year average of just 3%
  • 75% of the harvest tested had Hagberg falling numbers above 240 seconds, unchanged from last week and compared to five-year mean of 73%;
  • 24% of the crop had a specific weight above 76 kg per hectolitre (kg/hl), up from 23% in last week's report, but well below a five-year average of 80%

- Sept 19 - South Korea's Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp seeks 60,405 MT of non-glutinous rice for Jan-April arrival from any destination

- Philippines' state grains agency is set to accept applications from private traders to import up to 805,200 MT of rice. Traders can ship in up to 293,100 MT from Vietnam, the same from Thailand, and the rest from other countries not later than Feb. 28, 2017

CORN

- Sept 8 - South Korea's Major Feedmill Group (MFG) seeks up to 70,000 MT of yellow corn for Dec 20 arrival

- Sept 8 - China sold 476,461 MT of 2013 corn from state reserves, or 13.2% of the offered amount (3.6 MMT), at average price of 1,574 RMB/mt (236 $/mt)

- Sept 7 - Argentina grants export licenses for 10,203 MT of corn

- Lanworth raised its forecast for US's 2016 corn production to 375 MMT (14.8 bln bu), still below market expectation

- CNGOIC says China 2016 corn production will drop 2.3% from the year before to 219.5 MMT, reflecting an almost 5% fall in planted area (to 36.3 mln ha). The think-tank also predicted a 12% jump in corn consumption in the 2016/17 marketing year, starting in October, to 199 MMT. Corn imports in 2016/17 are expected to decline to 1.0 MMT from the prior season's 3.2 MMT

- FAO raised its forecast for world maize production in 2016 because prospects for the US was upped by 18 MMT. Maize output forecasts are also raised in Ethiopia, Mexico and the Sudan. These increases were partly offset by cuts in maize production in the EU and Brazil due to much lower yields. Overall coarse grain production for this year is now expected to be 1,328.9 MMT, some 1% (12.5 MMT) above than last month's forecast and 2% (27.6 MMT) above last year

- French maize exports, which are mostly within the EU, declined by 10% to 487 TMT (542 TMT in Jul 2015)

- French barley exports fell 24% in July to 715 TMT (936 TMT in Jul 2015), reflecting a slowdown in demand from China, although the Asian country was still the largest market for French barley with 259 TMT shipped

- StatsCan estimated Canadian barley stocks as of Jul 31 at 1.443 MMT, up 18.6% from last year but below the average market guess of 1.53 MMT

SOYBEAN

- Sept 7 - USDA announced export sales of 484,000 MT of US soybeans:

  • 220,000 MT to China for delivery during 2016/17;
  • 264,000 MT to unknown destinations for delivery during 2016/17

- Sept 7 - Argentina grants export licenses for 32,000 MT of soymeal

- China imported 7.67 MMT of soybeans in August, down 1.2% compared to the previous month and down 1.4% from a year-ago level. However, for the first eight months of the year, imports have climbed 3% from a year ago to 54 MMT

- China's imports of all vegetable oils in August was 550,000 MT compared to 450,000 MT in July. For the first eight months of the year China imported 3.43 MMT of vegoils

- CNGOIC expects China's 2016 soy output will rise by 12.9% from a year earlier to 13.1 MMT, after acreage expanded by 11%

- CNGOIC expects China's rapeseed production in 2016 to decline 6.2% from last year to 14 MMT

- StatsCan said Canadian canola inventories fell 20.7% to 2.016 MMT as of Jul 31 the smallest July 31 level in three years, but well above an average trade estimates of 1.27 MMT

- India's oilmeal exports fell 38% from a year ago to 56,597 MT in August (91,834 MT in Aug 2015). India's export of oilmeals during April-Aug 2016/17 dropped 46% to 330,834 MT compared to 609,748 MT during the same period of last year
