- Sept 1 - Japan bought 144,385 MT of food wheat:

  • 57,850 MT of western white US wheat for Oct 1-31 shipment;
  • 33,005 MT of dark northern spring US wheat for Oct 21-Nov 20 shipment;
  • 53,530 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat for Oct 21-Nov 20 shipment

- Aug 31 - Tunisia bought 50,000 MT of soft wheat, 11.5% protein, from Nidera at 178.75 $/mt c&f for Oct 25-Dec 25 shipment

- Aug 31 - USDA announced export sales of 138,000 MT of US hard red winter wheat to unknown destinations for delivery during 2016/17

- Aug 31 - Egypt's GASC cancelled a tender to buy an unspecified amount of wheat from global suppliers for October 5-15 shipment, because lack of offers, as Egypt reinstated its zero-tolerance ergot policy. Trading house Venus submitted the lone offer for 55,000 MT of Ukrainian wheat at 179.32 $/MT fob

- Aug 31 - China auctioned 4,200 MT of 2013 imported US #2 soft red winter wheat from state reserves, or 11.4% of the offered amount (36,694 MT), at an average price of 2,542 RMB/mt (380.5 $/mt)

- Weekly US wheat export sales data for week ended August 25 totalled 286,400 MT, incl. 279,400 MT for 2016/17 (below trade expectations of 300-600 TMT). Export commitments for 2016/17 are running 18% ahead of year-ago

- EU in week ended August 30 granted licenses to export 523 TMT of soft wheat, bringing the total this season to 4.542 MMT vs. 3.337 MMT a year ago

- Bulgaria harvested over 5.6 MMT of wheat in 2016, the largest in 36 years

- Franceagrimer trimmed wheat quality levels:

  • 64% of France's soft-wheat harvest had protein levels above 12.5%, down from 65% last week
  • 75% of the harvest tested had Hagberg falling numbers above 240 seconds, down from 79% last week and compared with 95% in 2015;
  • 23% of the crop had a specific weight above 76 kg per hectolitre (kg/hl), down from 28% in last week's report and compared with 99% in 2015

- Russia's Ag Min has officially proposed a zero export tax for wheat starting on Sept 15, 2016 until July 1, 2018

- Russian farmers harvested 63.82 MMT of wheat from 72.6% of the planned area as of Sept 1, up from 49.12 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 3.17 mt/ha up from 2.98 mt/ha a year ago

- Russian farmers have planted 2.9 million hectares (16.7% of the planned area) of winter crops as of September 1 down vs. 3.23 mln. ha a year ago

- Kazakh farmers harvested 5.1 MMT of all grains as of September 1, up from 2.22 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 1.56 mt/ha up from 1.31 mt/ha a year ago

- China has procured 63.8 MMT of reserve wheat by August 25, up 9.6% (or 5.58 MMT) from last year

CORN

- Sept 1 - USDA announced export sales of 129,540 MT of US corn to Mexico for delivery during 2016/17 (99,060 MT) and 2017/18 (30,480 MT)

- Sept 1 - China sold 516,068 MT of 2013 corn from state reserves, or 16.1% of the offered amount (3,199,717 MT), at average price of 1,580 RMB/mt (236.5 $/mt)

- Aug 31 - Jordan bought 50,000 MT of feed barley from GTCS at 180.5 $/mt c&f for November 16-30 shipment

- Aug 31 - Tunisia bought 25,000 MT of barley from Nidera at 164.82 $/mt c&f for Nov 5-Dec 15 shipment

- Aug 31 - USDA announced export sales of 275,000 MT of US corn to Mexico for delivery during 2016/17

- Allendale expects the US corn crop at a record 14.942 billion bushels this year, with an average yield of 172.6 bpa

- Bulgaria harvested 717,975 MT of barley in 2016 compared to 716,600 MT last year

- Russian farmers harvested 16.95 MMT of barley from 83.8% of the planned area as of Sept 1, up from 14.39 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.42 mt/ha up from 2.37 mt/ha a year ago

- Russian farmers harvested 145,100 MT of maize from 1% of the planned area as of Sept 1, down from 338,500 MT a year ago. Yields totalled 4.94 mt/ha up from 4.83 mt/ha a year ago

- US Ethanol production for the week ended August 26 decreased by 5,000 barrels to 1,023,000 barrels per day, up 7.9% from last year's level of 948,000 bpd. Stocks climbed by 109,000 barrels from the week prior to 20.926 million barrels, up 10.1% vs. 19.002 million barrels a year ago

- EIA estimated US ethanol production for June at 30.258 million barrels versus 30.228 million barrels in May and vs. 29.684 million barrels a year ago

- EIA reported June ethanol inventory at 21.199 million barrels, which is up 2% from May and 5.8% higher from last year

SOYBEAN

- Sept 1 - USDA announced export sales of 147,000 MT of US soybeans to unknown destinations for delivery during 2016/17

- Aug 31 - USDA announced export sales of 187,000 MT of US soybeans to China for delivery during 2016/17

- Aug 31 - Argentina grants export licenses for 48,000 MT of soymeal

- Weekly US soybean export sales data for week ended August 25 of 1,583,900 MT, incl. 107,500 MT for 2015/16 (within trade expectations of -150-+200 TMT) and 1,476,400 MT for 2016/17 (in line with trade expectations of 1.1-1.6 MMT). Total current marketing-year US soybean export sales are running 5% ahead the same point last year

- Allendale expects the US soybean crop will total 4.026 billion bushels this year, with an average yield of 48.5 bpa

- EIA said US June biodiesel production at 135 million gallons vs. 135 million gallons in May and vs. 122 million gallons a year ago
