WHEAT

- Aug 31 - Egypt's GASC seeks an unspecified amount of wheat from global suppliers for Oct 5-15 shipment

- European Commission (EC) sharply lowered its forecast for 2016 EU soft wheat crop to 133.26 MMT from 144.48 MMT last month, well below record production of 151.6 MMT last year. EU's executive cut its EU soft wheat exports estimate to 25.0 MMT in 2016/17 from 29.03 MMT previously, down from up-revised 32.7 MMT (32.43 MMT – previous estimate) in 2015/16. Soft wheat inventories in the region are forecasted at 8.04 MMT (10.07 MMT– previous estimate) by the end of June 2017, less than 14.27 MMT (13.86 MMT previously) estimated for 2015/16

- Algeria's grain imports were 7.33 MMT in the first seven months of 2016, down 5.9% from the same period a year earlier. Soft wheat purchases fell 3.6% to 3.63 MMT, while durum wheat imports declined 17.1% to 944,134 MT

- Aug 31 - Philippine secures 250,000 MT of rice from Thailand (100 TMT), Vietnam (150 TMT) at 424.85 $/mt (25-% broken rice)

CORN

- Aug 31 - Tunisia seeks 75,000 MT of barley for Nov 5-Dec 15 shipment

- Aug 31 - Taiwan's MFIG has rejected all offers and made no purchase in a tender to buy up to 65,000 MT of US or Brazilian corn for November shipment. The lowest offer was 148.59 cents/bu c&f over the Chicago March corn contract

- Aug 30 - Argentina grants export licenses for 17,565 MT of corn

- Aug 30 - Argentina grants export licenses for 26,000 MT of barley

- Dr. Michael Cordonnier lowered his US corn yield projection by 1 bushel per acre (bpa) from last week to 172 bpa, resulting in a 14.87-billion-bu crop (14.96 billion bu last week)

- EC decreased its 2016 EU corn harvest forecast to 62.5 MMT from 65.46 MMT last month (58.03 MMT in 2015). Projected imports in new season were upped to 13 MMT from 11 MMT previously, while imports in 2015/16 were cut to 13.14 MMT from 13.28 MMT previously. EC increased its estimate for 2015/16 corn ending stocks to 16.31 MMT from 15.88 MMT previously, but sharply cut expected stocks at the end of 2016/17 to 10.98 from 15.61 MMT in July

- EC lowered its 2016 EU barley harvest estimate to 59.0 MMT from 62.1 MMT last month, down from 60.69 MMT in 2015. Projected exports in new season were reduced to 8 MMT from 10.25 MMT in July's estimate, while exports in 2015/16 were raised to 14.16 MMT from 13.77 MMT previously, contributing to a decrease in carryover stocks to 3.77 MMT from 4.62 MMT. EC forecasts EU 2016/17 barley ending stock at 5.2 MMT (6.8 MMT – previous estimate)

- Algeria's Jan-Jul 2016 maize imports were 2.22 MMT, up 9.5% from the same period a year earlier

- Algeria's Jan-Jul 2016 barley imports rose by 25% to 528,721 MT from 422,962 MT in the January to July period of 2015

SOYBEAN

- Sept 6 - Egypt's FIHC seeks 30,000 MT of crude soyoil and 15,000 MT of crude sunflower oil for Oct 10-30 arrival

- Aug 30 - USDA announced export sales of 126,000 MT of US soybeans to unknown destinations for delivery during 2016/17

- China and Canada agreed on Wednesday, Aug 31, that Canada's canola shipments will be exempt from tougher import standards due to take effect on Sept 1 while the two sides work towards a permanent solution on canola sales. The new standard, under which China will reduce the amount of foreign matter allowed per shipment to no more than 1% from 2.5%, would significantly raise costs for exporters
