WHEAT

- Aug 26 - Egypt's GASC seeks an unspecified amount of wheat from global suppliers for Sept 26-Oct 5 shipment

- Australia has sold total of 115,000 MT of wheat to Philippines and Thailand this week:

  • 60,000 MT of standard white wheat to mills in the Philippines at 203 $/mt c&f
  • 55,000 MT of premium wheat to Thai millers at 213 $/mt c&f for February shipment

- Vietnam is seeking around 100,000 MT of feed wheat, 10.5% protein, for Sept-Oct delivery

- Weekly US wheat export sales data for week ended August 18 totalled 379,700 MT for 2016/17 (below trade expectations of 400-600 TMT). Export commitments for 2016/17 are running 18% ahead of year-ago

- EU in week ended August 23 granted licenses to export 452 TMT of soft wheat, bringing the total this season to 4.019 MMT vs. 3.147 MMT a year ago

- FranceAgriMer said French farmers completed harvesting of soft wheat as of August 22 vs. 97% a week ago and 100% a year ago

- French silo operator Nord Cereales will stop taking deliveries in its silo in the northern port of Dunkirk as of Aug 29

- UK wheat stocks totalled 2.65 MMT at the end of June, a record level and up 34% from a year earlier

- Algerian farmers' union said 2016 cereals crop to be slashed 40% due to worst drought in about 50 years. Last year's cereal crop totalled 4 MMT, up 14.3% on year

- China has procured 61.58 MMT of reserve wheat by August 20, up 8.5% (or 4.83 MMT) from last year

- South Africa's Crop Estimates Committee (CEC) in its first forecast expects winter wheat production this year at 1.683 MMT, up 16.9% over the previous season's crop of 1,4 MMT. The area estimate for wheat was raised to 498,150 hectares from 486,350 ha previously, up 3.3% over last year's acreage

- Aug 25 - Russia bought 8,370 MT of intervention grain (all wheat) via tender on the Crimean Exchange. Making the total bought since Aug 19 at 20,655 MT of 2016/17 grain (18,225 MT of wheat and 2,430 MT of barley)

- Russian farmers harvested 60.26 MMT of wheat from 65.3% of the planned area as of August 26, up from 47.72 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 3.33 mt/ha up from 3.06 mt/ha a year ago

- Sovecon raised its forecast for Russia's 2016 wheat crop to 73 MMT from previously expected 71.3 MMT; the total grain crop forecast was raised to 117 MMT from 115.3 MMT previously

- Russian farmers have planted 1.4 million hectares (8.1% of the planned area) of winter crops as of August 26 down vs. 2.32 mln. ha a year ago

- Kazakh farmers harvested 2.45 MMT of all grains as of August 26, up from 1.85 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 1.86 mt/ha up from 1.36 mt/ha a year ago

- Milling group said Brazil to import 500,000 MT of wheat in 2016/17 outside of Mercosur countries, mostly from US

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange kept Argentina's 2016/17 wheat acreage estimate at 4.3 mln ha (3.6 mln ha in 2015/16). Exchange said 2016/17 wheat planting is complete by August 25

- International Grains Council (IGC) raised its forecast for world wheat production in 2016/17 by 7.8 MMT to record high 743.2 MMT (736.4 MMT in 2015/16), reflecting upwardly revisions for crops in India, the US, Russia, Ukraine, Australia, Kazakhstan and Canada more than offsetting reduction for the EU. Global wheat ending stocks were revised upwards by 1.1 MMT to 228.9 MMT (217.3 MMT in 2015/16)

- Egypt's presidency will replace around half a dozen ministers after accepting resignation of the minister of supplies amid wheat scandal

CORN

- Aug 26 - China sold 650,384 MT of 2013 corn from state reserves, or 23.3% of the offered amount (2,789,356 MT), at average price of 1,621 RMB/mt (243 $/mt)

- Aug 25 - Argentina grants export licenses for 61,526 MT of corn

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange left its 2015/16 Argentine corn crop estimate unchanged from prior week at 28 MMT (28.2 MMT in 2014/15). Harvesting of Argentine corn crop was 93.1% completed with 26.33 MMT as of August 25 vs. 95.6% (25.22 MMT) last year

- IGC raised its forecast for world corn production in 2016/17 by 13.2 MMT to record high 1,029.9 MMT (968.5 MMT in 2015/16), due to a sustained improvement in crop prospects in the US. IGC increased its forecast for 2016/17 global corn carryover by 4.4 MMT from last month to 217.9 MMT (206.7 MMT in 2015/16)

- According to Pro Farmer Midwest Crop Tour, an average corn yield in Iowa is expected at 188.17 bu. per acre compared to 180.25 bpa last year and 3-year tour avg. of 176.98 bpa and in Minnesota – 182.32 bpa, 190.87 bpa last year and 3-year tour avg. of 180.91 bpa. Meanwhile it's lower than USDA's forecasts of 197 bpa (192 bpa in 2015) for Iowa and 184 bpa (188 bpa in 2015) for Minnesota

- Weekly US corn export sales data for week ended August 18 of 1,131,000 MT, incl. 71,100 MT for 2015/16 (below trade expectations of 100-250 TMT) and 1,059,900 MT for 2016/17 (topped trade forecasts of 800-1000 TMT). Total current marketing-year US corn export sales are 5% ahead the same point last year

- EU in week ended August 19 awarded licenses to import 86 MT of Ukrainian barley under an annual duty-free quota, bringing the total to 202,825 MT or 81.13% out of a total volume of 250,000 MT available in 2016

- EU in week ended August 23 awarded 20 TMT of corn (maize) import certificates, taking the volume so far this season to 1.156 MMT vs. 1.264 MMT a year ago

- EU in week ended August 23 granted licenses to export 32 TMT of corn, bringing the total this season to 197 TMT vs. 284 TMT a year ago

- EU in week ended August 23 granted licenses to export 80 TMT of barley, bringing the total this season to 975 TMT vs. 2.379 MMT a year ago

- FranceAgriMer said French farmers completed harvesting of spring barley as of August 22 vs. 97% a week ago and 100% a year ago

- FranceAgriMer estimated France's corn condition as 63% in good to excellent, unchanged from the prior week but above the year-ago score of 56%

- South Africa's Crop Estimates Committee (CEC) raised its estimate of corn output this year to 7.297 MMT from 7.262 MMT last month. It would be 26.7% less than last year (9.955 MMT in 2015) and the smallest crop since 2007, but above average market expectations of 7.2 MMT

- CEC cut its estimate of S. Africa's 2016 sorghum crop to 82,000 MT from 88,500 MT last month (120,500 MT in 2015)

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange said harvesting of 2015/16 Argentine sorghum crop was completed as of August 25; production totalled 3.4 MMT, down 2.9% from 2014/15 crop

- Russian farmers harvested 16.05 MMT of barley from 76.4% of the planned area as of August 26, up from 13.92 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.52 mt/ha up from 2.39 mt/ha a year ago

- Russian farmers started harvesting of maize. As of August 26 was harvested 44,300 MT from 0.3% of the planned area, down from 158.3 MT a year ago. Yields totalled 5.22 mt/ha up from 4.4 mt/ha a year ago

- Ukraine has begun its maize harvest, threshing the first 8,000 MT from 3,000 hectares as of August 26

- Australian farmers may reap record harvest of pulses such as chickpeas and lentils, with a total harvest of around 4 MMT expected this year compared to 2.2 MMT last season

SOYBEAN

- Aug 26 - China sold 97,222 MT of soybean produced in 2012 and 2013 from state reserves, or 16.1% of the offered amount (602,045 MT) at an average price of 3,313 RMB/mt (497 $/mt). Since state reserve soybean sales began in China (July 15), 1.14 MMT of soybeans have been sold, or about 29% of the offered volume

- Aug 25 - Argentina grants export licenses for 27,180 MT of soymeal

- Weekly US soybean export sales data for week ended August 18 of 2,054,700 MT, incl. 115,100 MT for 2015/16 (within trade expectations of 50-200 TMT) and 1,939,600 MT for 2016/17 (topped trade expectations of 1.1-1.3 MMT). Total current marketing-year US soybean export sales are running 5% ahead the same point last year

- IGC lifted its global 2016/17 soybean production forecast by 4.1 MMT to 325.4 MMT (315.7 MMT in 2015/16) due to bigger crop in the US. They upped global 2016/17 soybean carryover by 2 MMT from last month to 31.5 MMT (33.3 MMT in 2015/16)

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange expects Argentina's 2016/17 sunseed acreage at 1.6 mln ha. Exchange estimates 18% of the crop has been planted as of August 25 vs. 10.4% this time last year

- CEC left its forecast of S. Africa's 2016 sunflower crop at 742,750 MT unchanged from previous (663,000 MT in 2015)

- CEC kept its forecast of S. Africa's 2016 soybean crop at 750,250 MT unchanged from previous (1.07 MMT in 2015)

- China has procured 1,020,000 MT of reserve rapeseed by August 15, down 21.5% (or 280,000 MT) from last year

- Russian farmers harvested 52,800 MT of sunseed from 0.4% of the planned area as of August 26, down from 138,500 MT a year ago. Yields totalled 1.96 mt/ha down from 2.05 mt/ha a year ago

- Russian farmers harvested 293,900 MT of rapeseed from 19.8% of the planned area as of August 26, down from 439,600 MT a year ago. Yields totalled 1.5 mt/ha down from 1.82 mt/ha a year ago

- Ukrainian farmers as of August 26 harvested 71,000 MT of sunseed from 0.6% of the planned area with yields at 1.89 mt/ha

- Ukrainian farmers have planted 419,000 hectares of winter rapeseed (58% of plan) as of August 26 up from 185,000 ha a year ago

- Surveyor SGS estimated Malaysia's August 1-25 palm oil exports at 1,316,245 MT up 29.8% from a month ago
