WHEAT

- Aug 18 - Japan bought 87,430 MT of food wheat:

  • 32,870 MT of dark northern spring US wheat for Sept 21-Oct 20 shipment;
  • 32,010 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat for Sept 21-Oct 20 shipment;
  • 22,550 MT of Australian standard white wheat for December shipment

- Aug 17 - China auctioned 2,078 MT of 2013 imported US #2 soft red winter wheat from state reserves, or 5.8% of the offered amount (35,667 MT), at an average price of 2,528 RMB/mt (381 $/mt)

- Kazakh farmers harvested 1.91 MMT of all grains as of August 17, up from 1.47 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.1 mt/ha up from 1.63 mt/ha a year ago

- Russian farmers harvested 52.16 MMT of wheat from 51.8% of the planned area as of August 17, up from 43.03 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 3.63 mt/ha up from 3.23 mt/ha a year ago

- Russian grain stocks were at 31.4 MMT as of August 1, up 7.4% from a year earlier (29.2 MMT as of Aug 1, 2015). The data does not include grain stored at small farms

- Japan's July grain imports down 1.4% on year to 1.914 MMT, incl. 1.381 MMT from the US (-0.2%)

- Philippines is planning to import 1 MMT of rice to secure supply of the country's food staple through next year while prices are low. The 750,000 MT will be purchased via government-to-government deals while the remaining 250,000 MT will be imported by private companies

CORN

- Aug 17 - Jordan bought 50,000 MT of feed barley from Olam at 189 $/mt c&f for January shipment

- Aug 17 - Argentina grants export licenses for 26,145 MT of barley

- Aug 18 - China sold 395,020 MT of 2013 corn from state reserves, or 12.3% of the offered amount (3,203,125 MT), at average price of 1,577 RMB/mt (238 $/mt)

- Aug 23 - Brazil's Conab will auction around 50,000 MT of government corn stockpiles to help hog and poultry breeders cope with tight supplies

- Buenos Aires Grains Exchange says Argentine farmers are likely to plant 4.5 million hectares with corn for the 2016/17 crop, up 25% from last year's 3.6 mln ha due to the lifting of export barriers

- Russian farmers harvested 12.97 MMT of barley from 59.7% of the planned area as of August 17, up from 10.94 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.6 mt/ha up from 2.49 mt/ha a year ago

- US Ethanol production for the week ended August 12 increased by 11,000 barrels to a record 1,029,000 barrels per day, up 6.2% from last year's level of 965,000 bpd. Stocks fell by 35,000 barrels from the week prior to 20.425 million barrels, but up 10.0% vs. 18.561 million barrels a year ago

SOYBEAN

- Aug 17 - USDA announced export sales of 381,000 MT of US soybeans to China for delivery during 2016/17

- Aug 17 - USDA said that a 129,000-MT sale of corn to unknown on Aug 4 should have been soybeans

- Aug 17 - Argentina grants export licenses for 170,810 MT of soybeans; 147,400 MT of soybean oil and 47,400 MT of soymeal

- Japan's July soybean imports down 22.3% on year to 252,015 MT, incl. 135,965 MT from the US (-33.7%)

- Russian farmers harvested 167,400 MT of rapeseed from 8.9% of the planned area as of August 17, down from 278,200 MT a year ago. Yields totalled 1.89 mt/ha down from 1.98 mt/ha a year ago
