WHEAT

- Aug 11 - Taiwan Flour Millers' Association bought 85,250 MT of US milling wheat in two consignments:

  • The first consignment from CHS has an additional charge of 23.62 $/mt for ocean shipping from the US Pacific North West coast to Taiwan for shipment between Sept 25-Oct 9:
    • 23,250 MT of dark northern spring wheat (14.5% protein) at 243.78 $/mt fob;
    • 11,050 MT of hard red winter wheat (12.5% protein) at 236.39 $/mt fob;
    • 12,550 MT of soft white wheat (9% protein) at 207.16 $/mt fob.
  • The second consignment has an additional charge of 28.43 $/mt for ocean shipping from the US Pacific North West coast to Taiwan for shipment between Oct 12-26:
    • 25,800 MT of dark northern spring wheat (14.5% protein) from Cargill at 249.36 $/mt fob;
    • 12,600 MT of hard red winter (12.5% protein) from Columbia Grain at 243.66 $/mt fob

- Aug 11 - Japan bought 124,572 MT of food wheat for September 21-October 20 shipment:

  • 40,590 MT of hard red winter US wheat;
  • 25,140 MT of dark northern spring US wheat;
  • 58,842 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat

- Aug 11 - Argentina grants export licenses for 40,050 MT of low protein wheat

- Weekly US wheat export sales data for week ended August 4 totalled 607,600 MT for 2016/17 (above trade expectations of 350-550 TMT). Export commitments for 2016/17 are running 19% ahead of year-ago

- EU in week ended August 9 granted licenses to export 450 TMT of soft wheat, bringing the total this season to 3.029 MMT vs. 2.307 MMT a year ago

- Strategie Grains cut its EU soft wheat production estimate to 137.9 MMT, down 7.7 MMT from its prior forecast and now 13.3 MMT (8.8%) lower than last year's record crop. France accounted for 6 MMT of that reduction, Germany and UK for 1.5 MMT. About 66% of this year's EU soft wheat crop is estimated as milling grade, down from 71% last year. Strategie Grains lowered its 2016/17 EU soft wheat export forecast by 4.3 MMT to 24.7 MMT

- FranceAgriMer said 33% of soft wheat crops were in good and excellent condition as of August 8, down 2% points from last week and well below the year-earlier score of 77%. French farmers completed harvesting of durum as of August 8 vs. 99% a week ago and 100% a year ago. They also harvested 76% of the soft wheat vs. 62% a week ago and 95% a year ago

- Bulgaria harvested 5.26 MMT of wheat from 98% of the sown area, 13.8% more than the previous year

- Czech Statistics Bureau raised its wheat production forecast to 5.03 MMT from 4.92 MMT previously, but down from 5.27 MMT in 2015

- UK's Ag Min noted from its June survey of crops that wheat acreage this season was 1.699 mln ha, up 0.3% from last year

- Russia's Ag Min plans to start buying grain of 2016 harvest for interventions on August 19. First purchases will be made in the Crimea region

- Sovecon raised its forecast for Russia's 2016 wheat crop to 71.3 MMT from previously expected 66.1 MMT (61.8 MMT in 2015); the total grain crop forecast was raised to 115.3 MMT from 108.8 MMT previously (104.8 MMT in 2015)

- Russian farmers harvested 48.89 MMT of wheat from 46.1% of the planned area as of August 11, up from 40.18 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 3.83 mt/ha up from 3.33 mt/ha a year ago

- Kazakh farmers harvested 1.67 MMT of all grains as of August 11, up from 1.35 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.19 mt/ha up from 1.68 mt/ha a year ago

- Ukrainian farmers harvested 26.08 MMT of wheat from 99% of the planned area as of August 11, slightly down from 26.16 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 4.26 mt/ha up from 3.92 mt/ha a year ago

- Rosario grain exchange raised Argentina's 2016/17 wheat plantings estimate to 4.61 mln ha from 4.5 mln ha in July

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange kept Argentina's 2016/17 wheat acreage estimate at 4.3 mln ha (3.6 mln ha in 2015/16). Exchange estimates 97.3% of the crop has been planted as of August 11 vs. 92% last week

- China has procured 48.11 MMT of reserve wheat by July 31, down 1.6% (or 770,000 MT) from last year

CORN

- Aug 12 - China sold 262,376 MT of 2013 corn at average price of 1,624 RMB/mt (244 $/mt) out of the 2,803,836 MT of reserve corn offered at auction

- Weekly US corn export sales data for week ended August 4 of 1,610,500 MT, incl. 594,900 MT for 2015/16 (topped trade expectations of 200-400 TMT) and 1,015,600 MT for 2016/17 (within trade forecasts of 800-1100 TMT). Total current marketing-year US corn export sales are 5% ahead the same point last year

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange left its 2015/16 Argentine corn crop estimate unchanged from prior week at 28 MMT (28.2 MMT in 2014/15). Harvesting of Argentine corn crop was 75.4% completed as of August 11 vs. 66.1% last week

- EU in week ended August 5 awarded licenses to import 2,750 MT of Ukrainian barley under an annual duty-free quota, bringing the total to 202,739 MT or 81.1% out of a total volume of 250,000 MT available in 2016

- EU in week ended August 9 awarded 118 TMT of corn (maize) import certificates, taking the volume so far this season to 995 TMT vs. 992 TMT a year ago

- EU in week ended August 9 granted licenses to export 2 TMT of corn, bringing the total this season to 152 TMT vs. 240 TMT a year ago

- EU in week ended August 9 granted licenses to export 50 TMT of barley, bringing the total this season to 881 TMT vs. 1.961 MMT a year ago

- Strategie Grains cut its 2016 EU corn crop forecast to 60.6 MMT from the previous 61.7 MMT but that is still 5.6% higher than last year's crop (57.4 MMT in 2015)

- Strategie Grains lowered its 2016 EU barley production forecast to 60.6 MMT from last month's 62.1 MMT, now 1% below last year's crop (61.2 MMT in 2015)

- FranceAgriMer said 39% of France's spring barley crops were in good to excellent condition as of August 8, down 9% points from the prior week and below the year-ago score of 65%. French farmers harvested 78% of spring barley by August 8 (47% a week ago), well below the 97% harvest progress a year ago

- FranceAgriMer estimated France's corn condition as 68% in good to excellent, down 2% points from the prior week but above the year-ago score of 55%

- Czech Statistics Bureau raised its barley crop estimate to 1.73 MMT from 1.66 MMT previously, but down from 1.99 MMT in 2015

- Bulgaria harvested 716,600 MT of barley, 1.9% more than the previous year

- UK's Ag Min noted from its June survey of crops that barley acreage this season was 798,000 ha, up 6.6% from last year

- Russian farmers harvested 10.87 MMT of barley from 45.9% of the planned area as of August 11, up from 8.65 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.83 mt/ha up from 2.57 mt/ha a year ago

- Ukrainian farmers harvested 9.71 MMT of barley from 99% of the planned area as of August 11, up from 8.41 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 3.41 mt/ha up from 3.03 mt/ha a year ago

SOYBEAN

- Aug 11 - USDA announced export sales of 249,000 MT of US soybeans:

  • 120,000 MT to China for delivery during 2016/17;
  • 129,000 MT to unknown destinations for delivery during 2016/17

- Aug 11 - USDA announced export sales of 100,460 MT of US soybean cake and meal to Mexico for delivery during 2016/17 (72,122 MT) and 2017/18 (28,338 MT)

- Aug 11 - Argentina grants export licenses for 49,000 MT of soymeal and 8,056 MT of soybean oil

- Aug 11 - Argentina grants export licenses for 10,356 MT of sunflower oil

- Aug 12 - China sold 97,277 MT of soybean produced in 2012 and 2013 from state reserves, or 16.15% of the offered amount (602,461 MT) at an average price of 3,303 RMB/mt (497 $/mt)

- Weekly US soybean export sales data for week ended August 4 of 3,100,200 MT, incl. 308,000 MT for 2015/16 (within trade expectations of 200-400 TMT) and 2,792,200 MT for 2016/17 (topped trade expectations of 1.9-2.5 MMT). Total current marketing-year US soybean export sales are running 4% ahead the same point last year

- Brazilian farmers have sold 85% of the 2015/16 soybean crop and 20% of the expected 2016/17 soy harvest as of August 5

- India imported 1.141 MMT of veg oils (edible & non-edible) in July vs. 1.169 MMT in June and vs. 1.501 MMT a year ago
