WHEAT

- Egypt has enough strategic wheat reserves to last until early February 2017

- Genetically modified wheat developed by Monsanto Co, and never approved by federal regulators, has been found growing in a Washington state farm field

- South Korea says it will step up inspections of US wheat after USDA confirmed it found a GMO wheat strain in Washington state last week

- Russia's Ag Min said Russia exported about 1,716,300 MT of grain between July 1-27, 2016/17, up by 7.4% from 1,598,000 MT a year ago, including:

  • wheat – 1,249,200 MT (1,167,000 MT a year ago);
  • barley – 436,300 MT;
  • corn – 18,300 MT;
  • others – 12,600 MT

- Russia has 3,259,900 MT of grain in its federal intervention fund as of July 29

- Russian farmers harvested 34.71 MMT of wheat from 30.9% of the planned area as of July 29, up from 28.4 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 4.06 mt/ha up from 3.66 mt/ha a year ago

- Kazakh farmers harvested 1.04 MMT of all grains as of August 1, up from 833,700 MT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.17 mt/ha up from 1.84 mt/ha a year ago

- Ukrainian farmers harvested 19.9 MMT of wheat from 78% of the planned area as of July 29. Yields totalled 4.08 mt/ha up from 3.69 mt/ha a year ago

- European Commission (EC) marginally trimmed its forecast for 2016 EU soft wheat crop to 144.48 MMT from 144.56 MMT last month, well below record production of 151.6 MMT last year. EU's executive left its EU soft wheat exports estimate at 29.03 MMT in 2016/17 unchanged from previously, down from up-revised 32.43 MMT (31.03 MMT – previous estimate) in 2015/16. Soft wheat inventories in the region are forecasted at 10.07 MMT (12.19 MMT– previous estimate) by the end of June 2017, less than 13.86 MMT (15.26 MMT previously) estimated for 2015/16

CORN

- Jul 29 - Argentina grants export licenses for 135,000 MT of corn

- AgRural forecasts Brazil's 2016/17 summer corn area at 3.4 million hectares, up 7% from previous summer planting

- China plans to reduce planted acreage for corn by 3.3 million hectares or 9% by 2020

- China has sold 12 MMT of corn from its state reserves since auctions began at the end of May, just 30% of the total offer

- EC increased its 2016 EU corn harvest forecast to 65.46 MMT from 65.16 MMT last month (57.97 MMT in 2015). Projected imports in new season were lowered to 11 MMT from 11.34 MMT previously, while imports in 2015/16 were cut to 13.28 MMT from 13.62 MMT previously. EC decreased its estimate for 2015/16 corn ending stocks to 15.88 MMT from 16.42 MMT previously, and lowered expected stocks at the end of 2016/17 to 15.61 from 15.85 MMT in June

- EC lowered its 2016 EU barley harvest estimate to 62.1 MMT from 62.41 MMT last month, up from 60.65 MMT in 2015. Projected exports in new season were unchanged at 10.25 MMT, while exports in 2015/16 were raised to 13.77 MMT from 13.48 MMT previously, contributing to a decrease in carryover stocks to 4.62 MMT from 4.9 MMT. EC forecasts EU 2016/17 barley ending stock at 6.8 MMT (7.38 MMT – previous estimate)

- Russian farmers harvested 4.7 MMT of barley from 16.4% of the planned area as of July 29, up from 4.06 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 3.43 mt/ha up from 3.05 mt/ha a year ago

- Ukrainian farmers harvested 8.2 MT of barley from 86% of the planned area as of July 29, up from 6.7 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 3.31 mt/ha up from 2.92 mt/ha a year ago

SOYBEAN

- Aug 2 - Egypt's FIHC seeks 50,000 MT of crude soyoil and 15,000 MT of crude sunflower oil for Sept 1-20 arrival

- Jul 29 - USDA announced export sales of 129,000 MT of US soybeans to unknown destinations for delivery during 2015/16 (66 TMT) and 2016/17 (63 TMT)

- Jul 29 - Argentina grants export licenses for 59,184 MT of soymeal

- Argentine June soybean crush was reported at 4.02 MMT, down from revised of 4.35 MMT in May and down 11.3% from last year

- Argentine June sunflower crush was reported at 305,231 MT, up from revised of 217,533 MT in May and up 24.3% from last year

- Abiove cut its estimate for Brazil's 2015/16 soybean crop to 96.6 MMT from the previous outlook of 97.3 MMT. Abiove also lowered its forecast for 2016 soybean exports by 800,000 MT to 53.0 MMT

- AgRural forecasts Brazil's 2016/17 soy crop area at 33.54 million hectares, up 1% from last year, and crop at a record 100.6 MMT, up from 95.6 MMT harvested in 2015/16

- Strategie Grains cut its 2016 EU rapeseed crop estimate to 20.67 MMT down 570,000 MT from previous and down 5.8% from the 2015 harvest (21.95 MMT)

- Strategie Grains raised its 2016 EU sunflower crop estimate to 8.35 MMT from previous estimate of 8.29 MMT, up 10% from the 2015 harvest (7.59 MMT)

- Strategie Grains lifted its 2016 EU soybean crop forecast to 2.4 MMT up 20,000 MT from previous and up 5.3% on year (2.28 MMT in 2015)

- EC lowered its 2016 EU rapeseed harvest estimate to 20.53 MMT from 20.85 MMT in June, now down 5% from 21.6 MMT in 2015

- EC slightly trimmed its 2016 EU sunflower crop forecast to 8.52 MMT from 8.54 MMT previously, up 9% from 7.81 MMT in 2015

- EC lifted its 2016 EU soybean harvest forecast to 2.28 MMT from 2.21 MMT in June, unchanged from last year

- Surveyor Intertek Testing Services estimated Malaysia's July 1-31 palm oil exports at 1,273,543 MT up 12.7% from a month ago

- Surveyor SGS estimated Malaysia's July 1-31 palm oil exports at 1,283,050 MT up 15.4% from a month ago

- India's summer crop sowing as of July 29 up 6.3% on year

- Russian farmers harvested 121,000 MT of rapeseed from 6.1% of the planned area as of July 29, down from 147,800 MT a year ago. Yields totalled 1.99 mt/ha up from 1.61 mt/ha a year ago

- Ukrainian farmers harvested 1.0 MMT of rapeseed from 87% of the planned area as of July 29, down from 1.5 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.62 mt/ha up from 2.54 mt/ha a year ago
