WHEAT

- Syria's state grain agency seeks 150,000 MT of Russian soft milling wheat

- Jul 22 - Argentina grants export licenses for 25,000 MT of low protein wheat

- Wheat procurement by government-run agencies is about 23 MMT this year, down 22% from a year ago. Meanwhile the wheat stock position in India is comfortable as the federal government had 30.2 MMT in the central pool at the beginning of July

- Ukrainian farmers harvested 13.806 MMT of wheat from 57% of the planned area as of July 22, up from 11.5 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 3.88 mt/ha up from 3.5 mt/ha a year ago

- ODA Group lowered its French wheat crop estimate to 30 MMT, which would be the lowest since 2003 and down nearly 11 MMT from last year's record crop. Agritel doesn't expect the French wheat crop to top 32 MMT

- SovEcon believes Russia's government may reconsider wheat export tax in order to accelerate exports. SovEcon expects 2016/17 grain surplus for export at 37 MMT; grain production at 109 MMT (incl. 66 MMT of wheat). The government may reduce support prices in its restocking scheme

- Japan's June grain imports down 5.6% on year to 1.981 MMT, incl. 1.443 MMT from the US (+6.0%)

CORN

- Jul 29 - India's PEC seeks up to 200,000 MT of optional origin non-GMO corn for Dec 15-Feb 15 shipment. The tender closes on July 29 and offers must remain valid up to August 5

- Jul 28 - India's STC seeks 130,000 MT of optional origin non-GMO corn for August shipment. The tender closes on July 28 and offers must remain valid up to August 26

- Taiwan's MFIG in tender that closed late last week bought 65,000 MT of Brazil or US corn for Oct 8-Nov 11 shipment

- Argentina's trucking industry struck a deal with the government over hauling rates, ending a four-day-old strike that had begun to slow corn exports

- Safras & Mercado expects 2016/17 Brazil summer corn planting at 4.205 mln hectares, a rise of 7.8% over the previous year; and second corn crop pegged at 61.7 MMT, sharply above 2015/16 45.2 MMT

- Ukrainian farmers harvested 6.826 MT of barley from 73% of the planned area as of July 22, up from 5.0 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 3.26 mt/ha up from 2.89 mt/ha a year ago

- Ukraine's Ag Min said Ukraine exported 1.443 MMT of grain between July 1-22, 2016/17, down by 6.5% from 1.574 MMT a year ago, including:

  • wheat – 297 TMT (426 TMT a year ago);
  • corn – 386 TMT (764 TMT);
  • barley – 760 TMT (382 TMT)

SOYBEAN

- Jul 27 - Egypt's GASC seeks sunflower oil and soybean oil for Sept 1-15 shipment

- Three South Korean buyers purchased a total of about 170,000 MT of South American soymeal in separate deals late last week:

  • Nonghyup Feed Inc. (NOFI) bought 60,000 MT at 428 $/mt c&f plus a surcharge of 1.50 $/mt for additional port unloading for Dec 15 arrival;
  • Major Feedmill Group (MFG) purchased 55,000 MT at 431.90 $/mt c&f including a surcharge for additional port unloading for Dec 30 arrival;
  • Korea Feed Association (KFA) bought 55,000 MT at 432 $/mt c&f including a surcharge for additional port unloading for Jan 20 arrival

- Jul 22 - Argentina grants export licenses for 28,175 MT of soybean oil, 27,600 MT of soymeal and 7,400 MT of soybeans

- Jul 22 - Argentina grants export licenses for 12,672 MT of sunflower oil and 15,000 MT of sunflower meal

- Safras & Mercado expects 2016/17 Brazil soybean acreage at 33.49 mln hectares, up 0.9% from the previous year; and forecasts crop at 103.4 MMT compared to 96.5 MMT in 2015/16

- Jul 22 - European Commission approved imports of two types of Monsanto's genetically modified soybeans (MON 87708 x MON 89788 and MON 87705 x MON 89788) and one sold by Germany's Bayer CropScience (FG 72) for use as a food or animal feed, but not for growing crops

- India's summer crop sowing as of July 22 up 3.2% on year

- Japan's June soybean imports up 20.6% on year to 358,352 MT, incl. 164,613 MT from the US (-25.9%)

- Ukrainian farmers harvested 846,000 MT of rapeseed from 72% of the planned area as of July 22, down from 1.1 MMT a year ago. Yields totalled 2.59 mt/ha up from 2.41 mt/ha a year ago

- Indonesia will keep the export tax for crude palm oil at zero in August, unchanged from July

- Surveyor Intertek Testing Services estimated Malaysia's July 1-25 palm oil exports at 1,004,802 MT up 15.1% from a month ago

- Surveyor SGS estimated Malaysia's July 1-25 palm oil exports at 1,013,704 MT up 15.0% from a month ago
