WHEAT

- Jul 20 - Jordan seeks 100,000 MT of optional origin hard milling wheat

- Jul 13 - Algeria's OAIC seeks at least 50,000 MT of optional-origin milling wheat

- Jul 8 - South Korea (DongAOne and Samyang Corp, Korea Flour Mills, Daesun Flour Mills) bought 25,500 MT of US wheat, of which 11,500 MT was DNS wheat at 232.5 $/mt fob; 5,500 MT was HRW wheat at 195.88 $/mt fob; 7,500 MT was soft white wheat at 202.32 $/mt fob and 1,000 MT of soft white wheat at 212.99 $/mt fob for December shipment

- South Korea's Nonghyup Feed Inc (NOFI) late last week bought 65,000 MT of feed wheat at 185.75 $/mt c&f

- Weekly US wheat export sales data for week ended June 30 totalled 825,300 MT for 2016/17 (topped trade expectations of 400-600 TMT). Export commitments for 2016/17 are running 36% ahead of year-ago

- European Commission (EC) trimmed its forecast for 2016 EU soft wheat crop to 144.56 MMT from 145.06 MMT last month although still well below record production of 151.6 MMT last year. EU's executive left its EU soft wheat exports estimate at 29 MMT in 2016/17 unchanged from previously, down from up-revised 31.03 MMT (30.02 MMT – previous estimate) in 2015/16. Soft wheat inventories in the region are forecasted at 12.19 MMT (18.38 MMT– previous estimate) by the end of June 2017, now less than 15.26 MMT (17.5 MMT previously) estimated for 2015/16

- Russia's Ag Min said Russia exported about 162,100 MT of grain between July 1-6, 2016/17 compared to 255,000 MT in July 1-8, 2015/16

- Russia's Ag Min said Russia exported about 33.894 MMT of grain between July 1-June 30, 2015/16, up by 11% from 30.532 MMT in 2014/15, including:

  • wheat – 24.604 MMT (21.727 MMT a year ago);
  • barley – 4.231 MMT (5.302 MMT);
  • corn – 4.713 MMT (3.012 MMT);
  • others – 346 TMT (491 TMT)

- Russia has 3,266,300 MT of grain in its federal intervention fund as of July 8

- Iran has bought more than 6 MMT of wheat from local farmers since the beginning of the harvest season in late March, a 13%-increase from the same period last year. The government plans to buy 9 to 10 MMT of the grain this year. Currently, 85% of domestic demand for wheat is met by local production. Iran plans to achieve complete self-sufficiency in three years

- Algeria's grain imports reached 6.52 MMT in the first five months of 2016, up 9% from a year earlier due to much higher purchases of barley and soft wheat. Soft wheat imports rose 15.75% to 3.2 MMT, while durum wheat purchases were up 5.7% to 937,504 MT

- Jul 25 - Thailand is offering to sell 3.81 MMT of rice in two auctions. The first auction involves 1.63 MMT of rice for human consumption and industrial use. The second auction, involving 2.18 MMT of rice, is targeted for export

CORN

- South Korea's Feed Leaders Committee (FLC) bought 62,000 MT of optional origin corn at 186.94 $/mt c&f for Dec 20 arrival

- Jul 8 - South Korea's KFA bought 130,000 MT of optional origin corn, likely from the Black Sea region, in two equal consignments at 187.9 $/mt c&f Ulsan/Busan and 189.4 $/mt c&f Incheon for Dec arrival

- South Korea's Nonghyup Feed Inc (NOFI) late last week bought 192,000 MT of corn for Nov 10-Dec 31 shipment. Prices ranged from 188 to 196.95 $/mt c&f for 127,000 MT, with the remainder at a c&f premium of 1.27 $/bu over the Chicago December corn futures

- India allowed importing an extra 500,000 MT of duty-free non-GM corn

- Weekly US corn export sales data for week ended June 30 of 813,000 MT, incl. 369,800 MT for 2015/16 (below trade expectations of 500-700 TMT) and 443,200 MT for 2016/17 (within trade forecasts of 400-600 TMT). Total current marketing-year US corn export sales are 2% ahead the same point last year

- EC lowered its 2016 EU corn harvest forecast to 65.16 MMT from 65.77 MMT last month (57.97 MMT in 2015). Projected imports in new season were almost unchanged at 11.34 MMT, while imports in 2015/16 were lifted to 13.62 MMT from 13.53 MMT previously. EC decreased its estimate for 2015/16 corn ending stocks to 16.42 MMT from 17.45 MMT previously, but increased expected stocks at the end of 2016/17 to 15.85 from 15.47 MMT in May

- EC increased its 2016 EU barley harvest estimate to 62.41 MMT from 62.2 MMT last month, up from 60.65 MMT in 2015. Projected exports in new season were lifted to 10.25 MMT from 10 MMT in May estimate, while exports in 2015/16 were raised to 13.48 MMT from 12.55 MMT, contributing to a decrease in carryover stocks to 4.9 MMT from 5.31 MMT. EC forecasts EU 2016/17 barley ending stock at 7.38 MMT (7.83 MMT – previous estimate)

- Safras & Mercado estimated Brazil second corn crop harvest at 29.4% complete vs. 21.2% last week and compared to 11.8% last year on this date

- Algeria's Jan-May 2016 corn imports declined 6.2% on year to 1.81 MMT

- Algeria's Jan-May 2016 barley imports rose 45% to 576,044 MT

- South Korea's Nonghyup Feed Inc (NOFI) late last week bought 13,000 MT of Indian rapeseed meal at 305.73 $/mt c&f

- Weekly US soybean export sales data for week ended June 30 of 1,223,000 MT, incl. 637,300 MT for 2015/16 (above trade expectations of 400-600 TMT) and 585,700 MT for 2016/17 (within trade expectations of 500-700 TMT). Total current marketing-year US soybean export sales are running 2% ahead the same point last year
