WHEAT

- Egypt has bought 2.89 MMT of local wheat since the start of the local procurement season on April 15

- Rosselkhoznadzor estimated Russian grain exports between Jul 1-May 16, 2015/16 at 34.75 MMT (incl. 22.85 MMT of wheat) compared with 34.57 MMT (21.05 MMT) in Jul 1-May 31 of 2014/15

- Russia's media say Chinese COFCO plans to buy above 2 MMT of wheat annually from Russia

- Russian Ag Min estimated spring wheat planting 40.6% (or 5.36 mln ha) done as of May 16 vs. 3.97 mln ha a year ago

- Vietnam imported 404,446 MT of wheat in April, more than double the volume imported in March and up 164.8% year on year. Over January-April the country imported 1.26 MMT, up 64.78% year on year, with half of that came from Australia (654,144 MT)

- Britain was a net exporter of wheat in March, sixth consecutive month in 2015/16, with export totaled 383,226 MT, up from 300,350 MT in February and the highest monthly total since November 2011. Top customers included Spain (91,143 MT), Tunisia (78,727 MT), Portugal (62,303 MT) and France (60,522 MT). Cumulative UK's wheat exports for 2015/16 climbed to 1.987 MMT compare to 1.58 MMT in Jul-Mar 2014/15

- UK imported 143,444 MT of wheat in March, up from 87,114 MT in February, including 31,493 MT from Germany, 31,250 MT from Sweden and 30,689 MT from Canada. Britain's Jul-Mar wheat imports totaled 1.246 MMT vs. 1.274 MMT a year ago

- Egypt plans to buy 1 MMT of local paddy rice for a strategic reserve. The government will start buying up the paddy rice next month when the harvest for the new season begins

CORN

- May 16 - USDA announced export sales of 128,000 MT of US corn to South Korea for delivery during 2015/16

- Ukraine's Ag Min estimated corn planting 89% (or 4.0 mln ha) done as of May 16 compare to 4.0 mln ha a year ago

- Russian Ag Min estimated spring barley planting 72.4% (or 5.87 mln ha) done as of May 16 vs. 5.6 mln ha a year ago

- Russian farmers planted 2.15 mln ha of maize or 72% of planned area as of May 16 vs. 1.97 mln ha a year ago

- UK imported 112,645 MT of corn in March, up from 99,335 MT in February, including 46,656 MT from Ukraine and 44,071 MT from France. Britain's Jul-Mar corn imports totaled 1.369 MMT vs. 1.513 MMT a year ago

- UK exported 300,499 MT of barley in March, up from 215,578 MT in February, the highest monthly level since December 1998. Top customers included Spain (90,949 MT) and Saudi Arabia (66,000 MT). Cumulative barley exports for 2015/16 climbed to 1.553 MMT compare to 1.175 MMT in Jul-Mar 2014/15

SOYBEAN

- May 13 - USDA announced export sales of 420,000 MT of US soybeans to unknown destinations for delivery during 2015/16 (280 TMT) and 2016/17 (140 TMT)

- Ukrainian farmers have sown 4.6 mln ha of sunflower or 88% of planned area as of May 16 vs. 4.1 mln ha a year ago

- Ukraine's Ag Min estimated soybean planting 76% (or 1.6 mln ha) done as of May 16 compare to 1.7 mln ha a year ago

- Russian farmers have sown 4.75 mln ha of sunflower or 68.3% of planned area as of May 16 vs. 3.97 mln ha a year ago

- Russian farmers planted 739,100 ha of soybeans or 33.3% of planned area as of May 16 compare to 735,100 ha a year ago

- Surveyor Intertek Testing Services estimated Malaysia's May 1-15 palm oil exports at 563,172 MT up 16.3% from a month ago

- Surveyor SGS estimated Malaysia's May 1-15 palm oil exports at 574,548 MT up 14.9% from a month ago

- Malaysia's Felda Global Ventures Berhad, the world's third largest palm plantations operator, said its output of palm fresh fruit bunches has dropped 17% so far this year due to El Nino; expects crude palm oil prices would climb to between 2,600 and 2,800 MYR/mt by August this year from current around 2,566 ringgit
