WHEAT

- May 17 - Jordan's state grain buyer seeks 100,000 MT of optional origin hard milling wheat in two equal consignments for October shipments

- Private Indian millers have recently booked about 150,000 MT of French wheat at prices around 203-204 $/mt c&f for shipment in July and August, but phytosanitary constraints are slowing purchases. India generally only clears wheat with zero ergot fungus, level French wheat exporters say they cannot guarantee

- Weekly US wheat export sales data for week ended May 5 totaled 682,800 MT, incl. 294,900 MT for 2015/16 (topped trade expectations of 50-175 TMT) and 387,900 MT for 2016/17 (above trade expectations of 200-350 TMT). Total current marketing-year US wheat export sales are 12% behind the same point last year

- EU in week ended May 6 awarded licenses to import 499 MT of Ukrainian wheat under an annual duty-free quota. The award meant that the EU had now awarded 935,067 MT or 98.4% out of a total volume of 950,000 MT available in 2016

- EU in week ended May 10 granted licenses to export 628 TMT of soft wheat, bringing the total this season to 26.559 MMT vs. 27.962 MMT a year ago

- FranceAgriMer said 87% of soft wheat crops were in good and excellent condition as of May 9, unchanged from last week but below the year-earlier score of 91%; durum rating at 78% in good to excellent vs. 79% last week and vs. 87% a year ago

- Sovecon raised its forecast for Russia's 2016 wheat crop to 61.1 MMT from previously expected 59 MMT (61.8 MMT in 2015); the total grain crop forecast was raised to 105.4 MMT from 103 MMT previously (104.8 MMT in 2015)

- South Africa's Crop Estimates Committee (CEC) lowered its final estimate of S. Africa's 2015 wheat crop to 1.44 MMT from 1.457 MMT previously and down 17.7% from 1.75 MMT in 2014

CORN

- May 18 - Jordan's state grain buyer seeks 100,000 MT of optional origin feed barley in two equal consignments for Oct 16-31 and Nov 1-15 shipments

- May 12 - Argentina grants export licenses for 20,000 MT of barley

- May 12 - USDA announced export sales of 210,000 MT of US corn for delivery to Saudi Arabia during 2015/16

- US importers in late April bought about 44,900 MT of organic non-GMO corn from Romania in two consignments (23,900 MT and 21,000 MT)

- Weekly US corn export sales data for week ended May 5 of 1,255,700 MT, incl. 1,105,300 MT for 2015/16 (within trade expectations of 900-1200 TMT) and 150,400 MT for 2016/17 (below trade forecasts of 175-325 TMT). Total current marketing-year US corn export sales are 6% behind the same point last year

- UN WFP (World Food Programme) said Zimbabwe imported 350,000 MT of maize and 100,000 MT of barley between January and the end of April to meet shortages caused by a drought. WFP Zimbabwe said Zimbabwe needs to import 1.3 MMT of maize this season compared to national demand of 1.8 MMT

- EU in week ended May 10 awarded 218 TMT of corn (maize) import certificates, taking the volume so far this season to 11.894 MMT vs. 7.952 MMT a year ago

- EU in week ended May 10 granted licenses to export 30 TMT of corn, bringing the total this season to 1.378 MMT vs. 2.852 MMT a year ago

- EU in week ended May 10 granted licenses to export 177 TMT of barley, bringing the total this season to 8.942 MMT vs. 7.776 MMT a year ago

- FranceAgriMer said 85% of France's winter barley crops were in good to excellent condition as of May 9, down 1% point on the prior week and below the year-ago score of 90%. Spring barley rating was at 94% in good to excellent vs. 93% a week ago and vs. 95% a year ago

- FranceAgriMer estimated France's corn planting 78% done as of May 9, still behind last year's pace of 89%

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange maintains its 2015/16 Argentine corn crop estimate at 25 MMT (28.2 MMT in 2014/15). Harvesting of Argentine corn crop was 27.4% completed as of May 12, behind of last year's pace of 32.9%

- Philippines' corn output in the first quarter is estimated at 1.9 MMT, 9.9% lower than a previous forecast and down 19.1% versus the year-ago harvest

SOYBEAN

- May 12 - Argentina grants export licenses for 16,000 MT of sunflower meal

- Weekly US soybean export sales data for week ended May 5 of 219,300 MT, incl. 212,400 MT for 2015/16 (below trade expectations of 350-500 TMT) and just 6,900 MT for 2016/17 (below trade expectations of 325-450 TMT). Total current marketing-year US soybean export sales are 6% behind the same point last year

- Traders speculate that the USDA's June 30 acreage report could show a shift of about 1 million acres from corn into soybeans compared to the government's March 31 planting intentions report

- Buenos Aires Grains Exchange maintains its forecast for 2015/16 Argentine soy crop at 56 MMT, down from 2014/15 (60.8 MMT). Harvesting of Argentine soybean crop was 51.2% completed as of May 12, below last year's pace of 79.5%

- Workers at the Rosario grains export hub in Argentina plan to start a strike on Friday to demand higher salaries

- Olam International expects Indonesia 2016 palm oil output to fall by about 2 MMT, while production in Malaysia will decline by 1.2 MMT. Indonesia churned out 35.5 MMT of palm oil in 2015, with Malaysia producing 19.96 MMT
