WHEAT

- Apr 21 - Ethiopia bought 70,000 MT of milling wheat from Promising International in tow consignments of 35,000 MT at 285.67 and 286.17 $/mt for delivery to inland silos at Nazareth, Dire Dawa, Kombolcha

- Egypt has purchased 57,000 MT of local wheat from farmers since the start of the season on April 15. Egypt is planning to buy 4 MMT of domestic wheat in the local season. Egypt's wheat harvest begins in April and runs through July

- Algeria's grain imports reached 3.2 MMT in the first quarter of 2016, down 8.5% from a year earlier, despite higher soft and durum wheat purchases. Soft wheat imports rose to 1.6 MMT from 1.55 MMT, while durum wheat purchases were up at 510,830 MT from 509,140 MT

- Kazakh Ag Min said Kazakhstan exported 6.881 MMT of grain between July 1-April 20, 2015/16 vs. 5.199 MMT a year ago, incl. flour – 2.344 MMT in wheat equivalent vs. 1.963 MT in the same period of 2014/15

- Rosselkhoznadzor estimated Russian grain exports between Jul 1-Apr 22, 2015/16 at 33.08 MMT (incl. 21.83 MMT of wheat) compared with 32.93 MMT (20.46 MMT) in Jul 1-Apr 30 of 2014/15

- Russia's grain-quality watchdog and Bangladesh's state grain buyer have agreed to carry out joint tests of a cargo of Russian wheat that has just arrived in the South Asian country after two cargoes rejected

- A resolution from Brazil's government to eliminate an import tax on corn shipments from countries outside the Mercosur trade bloc appeared in the country's official gazette on Friday, April 22

- Algeria's Jan-Mar corn imports fell to 906,393 MT from 1.15 MMT in the first three months of 2015

- Algeria's Jan-Mar barley imports dropped to 182,550 MT from 286,052 MT during the same period of 2015

- Ukrainian farmers have sown 2.37 mln ha of early spring grain or 98% of the initial area as of April 22 vs. 2.05 mln ha a year ago. Ukraine's Ag Min estimates spring barley planting 98% (or 1.78 mln ha) done vs. 1.54 mln ha a year ago
