WHEAT

- Syrian Prime Minister said that he expected a cargo of another 100,000 MT of grain from Russia soon

- Weekly US wheat export sales data for week ended April 14 totaled 620,700 MT, incl. 295,100 MT for 2015/16 (within trade expectations of 0-300 TMT) and 325,600 MT for 2016/17 (topped trade expectations of 100-250 TMT). Total current marketing-year US wheat export sales are 17% behind the same point last year

- EU in week ended April 15 awarded licenses to import 12,184 MT of Ukrainian wheat under an annual duty-free quota. The award meant that the EU had now awarded 934,368 MT or 98.4% out of a total volume of 950,000 MT available in 2016

- EU in week ended April 19 granted licenses to export 711 TMT of soft wheat, bringing the total this season to 24.484 MMT vs. 26.423 MMT a year ago

- FranceAgriMer said 91% of soft wheat crops were in good and excellent condition as of Apr 18, down 1% point from last week but equalled the year-earlier score; durum rating at 84% in good to excellent vs. 85% last week and vs. 87% a year ago

CORN

- Apr 21 - USDA announced export sales of 240,000 MT of US corn for delivery to Japan during 2015/16 (180,000 MT) and 2016/17 (60,000 MT)

- Apr 21 - Argentina grants export licenses for 30,326 MT of corn and 20,000 MT of barley

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange maintains its 2015/16 Argentine corn crop estimate at 25 MMT (28.2 MMT in 2014/15). Harvesting of Argentine corn crop was 20.8% completed as of Apr 21, behind of last year's pace of 25.7%

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange lowered its 2015/16 Argentine sorghum crop estimate by 0.1 to 3.5 MMT, now unchanged from 2014/15 crop (3.5 MMT). Harvesting of Argentine sorghum was 23.7% completed as of Apr 21, behind of last year's pace of 31.7%

- Weekly US corn export sales data for week ended Apr 14 of 1,325,900 MT, incl. 1,202,800 MT for 2015/16 (topped trade expectations of 900-1200 TMT) and 123,100 MT for 2016/17 (in line with trade forecasts of 100-250 TMT). Total current marketing-year US corn export sales are 12% behind the same point last year

- EU in week ended Apr 15 awarded licenses to import 3,000 MT of Ukrainian barley under an annual duty-free quota, bringing the total to 13,926 MT or 5.6% out of a total volume of 250,000 MT available in 2016

- EU in week ended Apr 19 awarded 219 TMT of corn (maize) import certificates, taking the volume so far this season to 11.281 MMT vs. 7.349 MMT a year ago

- EU in week ended Apr 19 granted licenses to export 12 TMT of corn, bringing the total this season to 1.264 MMT vs. 2.581 MMT a year ago

- FranceAgriMer said 90% of France's winter barley crops were in good to excellent condition as of Apr 18, down 1% point on the prior week but equalling the year-ago score. Spring barley rating was at 94% in good to excellent vs. 95% last week and vs. 97% a year ago

- FranceAgriMer estimated France's corn planting 11% done as of Apr 18, well behind last year's pace of 47%

- JCI says China has bought 116 MMT of corn into the reserve so far this season

- China imported 575,350 MT of corn last month, up sharply from the month prior and year-ago level. Ukraine got the bulk of the business with (95.4%). For the first three months of the year, China has imported just 645,609 MT of corn, down 47.6% from year-ago

- China imported 373,086 MT of distillers' dried grains (DDGS) in March, up 106.3% from February and up 53.3% from a year-ago, despite concerns about its antidumping investigation against the US. China's Jan-Mar DDGs imports rose 116% on year to 844,576 MT

- China's ethanol imports of 99,661 cubic meters in March were up sharply from year-ago levels, with the US accounting for nearly all of the business. During the first three months of the year, China imported 191,402 cubic meters of ethanol

- South Africa's Ag Min says with two weeks left in the current marketing season, drought-hit country has imported 1,732 MMT of yellow maize and 72,000 MT of white maize. In the next season South Africa is expected to import 2.4 MMT of yellow maize and 1.9 MMT of white maize

- Stats Canada expects country's 2016 corn for grain plantings at 3.5 million acres up 6.2% from 2015 and above average expectation of 3.1 million

- Stats Canada estimates Canada's 2016 barley plantings at 6.8 million acres (avg expectation of 6.5) up 3.8% from 2015 and oat plantings at 3.0 million acres, as expected, but down 10.9% from a year ago

- Japan's use of corn in animal feed was at 46.2% in February, down 0.1% points from January (46.3%) but up 1.8% points above year-ago levels (44.4% in Feb 2015). Its use of wheat was unchanged from month ago at 1.6% and vs. 1.5% a year ago. Japan's sorghum usage in feed rations stood at 2.9% for February, down marginally from January (3.0%) and down 1.6% points from the year prior (4.5% in Feb 2015). Barley usage in feed rations held steady with year-ago level at 3.4%

SOYBEAN

- Apr 21 - Argentina grants export licenses for 80,506 MT of soybeans and 250,000 MT of soymeal

- Apr 21 - Argentina grants export licenses for 21,000 MT of sunflower oil

- Argentina's Ag Min lowered its 2015/16 soy harvest estimate to 57.6 MMT from 60.9 MMT previously

- Buenos Aires Grains Exchange dropped its 2015/16 soybean crop estimate to 56 MMT from its previous 60-MMT forecast and down from 60.8 MMT in 2014/15. Harvesting of Argentine soybean crop was 16.4% completed as of Apr 21, below last year's pace of 46%

- Weekly US soybean export sales data for week ended Apr 14 of 747,400 MT, incl. 407,700 MT for 2015/16 (within trade expectations of 200-500 TMT) and 339,700 MT for 2016/17 (above trade expectations of 0-200 TMT). Total current marketing-year US soybean export sales are 7% behind the same point last year

- China imported 6.098 MMT of soybeans during March up 35.7% from year-ago. The US accounted for 4.573 MMT (74%) of the business. China's Jan-Mar soybean imports up 4.0% on year to 16.262 MMT, incl. 13.095 MMT from the US

- Apr 20 - China sold all of the 150,000 MT of rapeseed oil offered at auction from the State Reserve

- Stats Canada expects country's 2016 canola plantings at 19.3 million acres down 3.7% from 2015 and below average expectation of 20.4 million

- Stats Canada estimates country's 2016 soybean plantings at 5.3 million acres (avg expectation of 5.5) down 1.9% from 2015 and flaxseed plantings at 1.1 million acres (avg expectation of 1.6) down 32% from a year ago
