WHEAT

- Apr 14 - Iraq bought 50,000 MT of hard wheat from Australia at 251.50 $/mt c&f free out for shipment and delivery during 75 days after the opening of a letter of credit

- Apr 14 - Argentina grants export licenses for 48,100 MT of low protein wheat

- Weekly US wheat export sales data for week ended April 7 totaled 336,200 MT, incl. 124,700 MT for 2015/16 and 211,500 MT for 2016/17, were within trade expectations (0-400 TMT for 2015/16 and 100-300 TMT for 2016/17). Total current marketing-year US wheat export sales are 17% behind the same point last year

- EU in week ended April 8 awarded licenses to import 9,099 MT of Ukrainian wheat under an annual duty-free quota. The award meant that the EU had now awarded almost 922,184 MT or 97.1% out of a total volume of 950,000 MT available in 2016

- EU in week ended April 12 granted licenses to export 1150 TMT of soft wheat, bringing the total this season to 23.772 MMT vs. 25.682 MMT a year ago

- FranceAgriMer said 92% of soft wheat crops were in good and excellent condition as of Apr 11, unchanged from last week and equalled the year-earlier score, the highest for the period in the past five years; durum rating at 85% in good to excellent vs. 87% last week and vs. 88% a year ago

- Stratégie Grains estimates EU 2016/17 ending soft wheat stocks at 13.2 MMT down 1.2 MMT from last month due to higher feed demand with old crop stocks estimated at 15.6 MMT down 1 MMT from March due to higher exports (estimate for 2015/16 exports was upped by 700,000 MT to 29.5 MMT)

- Strategie Grains raised its soft wheat crop forecast for the EU by 1.1 MMT from March to 144.7 MMT. This would still be down from last year's record crop of 150.7 MMT

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange maintains its 2015/16 Argentine corn crop estimate at 25 MMT (28.2 MMT in 2014/15). Harvesting of Argentine corn crop was 18.8% completed as of Apr 14, behind of last year's pace of 24.1%

- Weekly US corn export sales data for week ended Apr 7 of 1,247,200 MT, incl. 1,135,800 MT for 2015/16 and 111,400 MT for 2016/17 were in line with trade forecasts (900-1100 TMT for 2015/16 and 50-200 TMT for 2016/17). Total current marketing-year US corn export sales are 13% behind the same point last year

- USDA attaché in China estimated 2016/17 corn production for the country at 218.00 MMT, down from 224.58 MMT in 2015/16 due to policy changes

- Malawi declared a national disaster after a severe drought and appealed for 1.2 MMT of maize to plug a looming deficit of the staple. Estimates of maize production taken between mid-February and March pegged the output at 2.431 MMT from 2.776 MMT in the previous season. While Malawi's maize requirement stands at 3.205 MMT
