WHEAT

- Apr 21 – Ethiopia seeks 70,000 MT of milling wheat

- Apr 8 - Japan seeks 137,486 MT of food wheat for May 21-June 20 shipment:

  • 14,640 MT of western white US wheat;
  • 41,350 MT of hard red winter US wheat;
  • 59,596 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat;
  • 21,900 MT of Australian standard white wheat for August shipment

- Apr 6 - Japan bought 51,100 MT of feed grain (incl. 27,370 MT of wheat and 23,730 MT of barley) for September 30 arrive via SBS-tender. New SBS tender for 120,000 MT of feed wheat and 200,000 MT of feed barley will be held on April 13

- Apr 5 - Tunisia bought 42,000 MT of optional origin durum wheat at 282.98 $/mt c&f for shipment between July 15-Aug 15

- Apr 5 - Jordan again has made no purchase in an international tender to buy 100,000 MT of optional origin hard milling wheat for Sep 16-Oct 31 shipment

- Mar 25 - Ethiopia bought 499,536 MT of optional origin wheat from Promising International Trading Co. in three lots at 195.1; 204.4 and 208.05 $/mt c&f Djibouti for shipment between May and July. Traders said they expected the wheat to be sourced in the Black Sea region, possibly including Ukraine and Romania

- Egypt has banned the trading of imported wheat inside the country, a move which could reduce smuggling of the grain

- Apr 6 - Russia bought 8,100 MT of intervention grain (all wheat) via tender on the NTB (Moscow Exchange). Making the total bought since Aug 20 at 1,700,614 MT of Russian grain (1,662,409 MT of wheat, 17,685 MT of rye and 20,520 MT of barley). Separately Russia bought around 66,780 MT of Crimean wheat in intervention fund between Aug 19-Mar 17 via tenders on Crimean Exchange

- USDA estimated 59% of the US winter wheat crop good to excellent (G/E) compared to 55% at the end of November 2015 and 44% a year-ago, also above the five-year average near 42% for the first week in April. That topped analysts' estimates for 57.6% G/E (range 52-62%)

- Iraq's Ag Min estimates country's 2016/17 wheat crop at 4-4.25 MMT vs. 3.3 MMT in 2015/16

- Swiss commodities giant Glencore said it had agreed to sell a 40 percent stake in its agricultural business to Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) for $2.5 billion. Glencore said it expects the deal to close during the second half of 2016 and that it will use the proceeds to reduce debt

- Egypt's GASC cancelled a tender to buy rice as the offers presented did not comply with its terms

CORN

- Apr 25 - Syria's GFTO seeks to purchase and import 2,500 MT of yellow corn and 2,500 MT of soymeal for arrive three months after the opening of a letter of credit

- Zambia on Tuesday suspended the export of maize to curb local shortages pending the verification of available stocks

- South Africa expects to source enough white maize this year. Total 2015/16 corn imports currently accounts for 1.651 MMT (1 May-1 Apr 2015/16), incl. 1.578 MMT of yellow corn sourced from Argentina (881,956 MT), Brazil (502,147 MT), Paraguay (170,801 MT) and with first shipments from Ukraine of 23.5 MMT

- Safras&Mercado estimates Brazilian summer corn (first crop) harvest at 76% done compared to 60% a year ago

- Dr. Michael Cordonnier left his Brazilian and Argentine corn crop forecasts unchanged this week at 84 MMT (85.4 MMT in 2014/15) and 25 MMT (27 MMT in 2014/15) respectively

- Dr. Michael Cordonnier left his estimate of South America's 2015/16 corn crop at 113.3 MMT unchanged from previous estimate and vs. 116.2 MMT in 2014/15

- US exports of fuel ethanol totaled 253.7 million liters (67 million gallons) in February, plunging by more than 20% year-over-year, also down over 20% from the prior month

- USDA estimated US sorghum planting 13% complete as of April 3, compared to 8% last year and a 13% five-year average

- Ukrainian farmers have sown 1.568 mln ha of early spring grain or 62% of the initial area as of April 5 vs. 1.588 mln ha a year ago. Ukraine's Ag Min estimates spring barley planting 60% (or 1.166 mln ha) done vs. 1.186 mln ha a year ago

- Russian Ag Min estimated spring planting 2.2% (or 1.16 mln ha) done as of April 5 vs. 1.575 mln ha a year ago. Of the total Russian farmers planted 738,100 ha of spring grain or 2.4% of planned area vs. 1,060,200 ha a year ago

- ADM has begun work on expanding its bulk grains terminal and silo space at Brazil's port of Santos. The work will raise the company's capacity to move grains through the terminal to 8 MMT from a current 6 MMT annually

SOYBEAN

- Cuba purchased about 160,000 MT of soymeal from three shippers in Argentina for Jun-Nov shipment

- Apr 5 - Argentina grants export licenses for 161,050 MT of soymeal and 19,800 MT of soyoil

- Rainy, cool conditions in the U.S. South and Midwest and recent gains in soybean prices could prompt growers to switch 1-2 million acres of land to soybeans that they had initially intended to plant with corn

- Rain over the coming days in Argentina's main agricultural region will likely further delay the harvest of 2015/16 soy which could result in some crop losses

- Safras&Mercado estimates Brazilian soybean harvest at 71% done against 75 last year and 74% average

- Dr. Michael Cordonnier left his Brazilian and Argentine soybean crop forecasts unchanged this week at 100 MMT (96.2 MMT in 2014/15) and 60.5 MMT (60.8 MMT in 2014/15) respectively

- Dr. Michael Cordonnier left his estimate of South America's 2015/16 soybean crop at 175.8 MMT unchanged from previous estimate and vs. 171.4 MMT in 2014/15

- India's oilmeal exports fell 75% from a year ago to 51,698 MT in March on lower crushing of soybean (93,704 MT(revised) in Feb 2016 and 209,227 MT in Feb 2015). India's export of oilmeals during April-Mar 2015/16 dropped 52% to 1.184 MMT compared to 2.466 MMT during the same period of last year

- India exported only 430 MT of soybean meal in March vs. 1,127 MT a month ago and 45,917 MT a year ago. India's Apr-Mar 2015/16 soymeal exports at 70,820 MT vs. 659,593 MT a year ago
