WHEAT

- Mar 25 - The lowest offers in Ethiopian tender for 499,000 MT of optional origin wheat came from Promising International at 208.05; 204; 195 $/mt c&f Djibouti

- Egypt's GASC added Bulgaria as an acceptable origin from next wheat tender

- Russia's Ag Min said Russia exported about 27.375 MMT of grain between July 1-Mar 23, 2015/16, up by 5.5% from 25.943 MMT a year ago, including:

  • wheat – 20.038 MMT (19.351 MMT a year ago);
  • barley – 3.808 MMT (4.27 MMT);
  • corn – 3.299 MMT (1.914 MMT);
  • others – 230 TMT (408 TMT)

- Russia has 3,117,800 MT of grain in its federal intervention fund as of March 25

- USDA's attaché in Ethiopia expects the country to import a record high of 2.5 MMT of wheat in 2015/16 and 1.8 MMT in 2016/17

- USDA attaché in Thailand expects wheat imports to decline to 3.1 MMT, down 11% from 2015/16 (3.5 MMT) in anticipation of a reduction in feed wheat imports. Imports of feed wheat are expected to decline to 1.5 MMT, down 25% from 2015/16 (2.1 MMT) as domestic corn and rice production is likely to recover from severe drought. Meanwhile, 2016/17 milling wheat imports will likely increase to 1.4 MMT, up 8% from last year, particularly for high-protein wheat from the US due to expanding capacity of large bakery manufacturers

CORN

- Ukraine's Ag Min said Ukraine exported almost 30 MMT of grain between July 1-Mar 25, 2015/16, including:

  • corn – almost 13 MMT;
  • wheat – 12.6 MMT;
  • barley – 4 MMT

- USDA attaché in Thailand forecasts a 4% increase in corn production for 2016/17 crop to 4.9 MMT vs. 4.7 MMT in 2015/16

- USDA's attaché in Colombia expects the country to harvest 1.7 MMT of corn in 2016/17, marginally down from year before, while imports marginally surge to 4.5 MMT

- USDA's attaché in Ethiopia estimates the country's 2015/16 corn crop at 5.05 MMT (down from USDA's official projection for 2015/16 of 6 MMT and 6.5 MMT in 2014/15); sorghum crop at 2.604 MMT (3.8 MMT and 4 MMT); barley crop at 1.944 (1.9 and 2.1) MMT; and millet crop at 384,000 (700,000 and 750,000) MT. Grain production is expected to recover in 2016/17

- South Korea has detected bird flu (H5N8) in ducks on a poultry farm near Seoul, the first discovery in four months and a month after the country regained its bird flu-free status

SOYBEAN

- Mar 31 - Egypt's FIHC tenders to buy 40,000 MT of soyoil and 30,000 MT of sunflower oil for May 1-20 and/or Jun 1-20 shipment

- Indonesia will keep the export tax for crude palm oil at zero in April, unchanged from March
