WHEAT

- Mar 22 - Jordan seeks 100,000 MT of optional origin hard milling wheat for Sept 16-Oct 31 shipment

- Mar 17 - Japan seeks 149,550 MT of food wheat for Apr 21-May 20 shipment:

  • 15,100 MT of western white US wheat
  • 18,150 MT of hard red winter US wheat
  • 30,130 MT of (dark) northern spring US wheat
  • 24,800 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat
  • 61,370 MT of Australian standard white wheat for June shipment

- Mar 14 - USDA announced changes in destination on the sale of 100,000 MT of US hard red spring wheat for delivery during 2015/16 from unknown to China

- US wheat export inspections for week, ending March 10, recorded 406,577 MT, within the market forecasts (300-450 TMT). Inspections for 2015/16 are running 12.5% behind year-ago

- Egypt's GASC aims to purchase 4-4.5 MMT of domestic wheat this year vs. 5.3 MMT last year and 3.7 MMT in 2014. Egypt begins its harvest season in mid-April and typically completes it in July

- Russian wheat exporters are putting pressure on farmers to reduce domestic prices in response to the strengthening rouble, which makes Russia less competitive on the global market

- Rosselkhoznadzor estimated Russian grain exports between Jul 1-Mar 14, 2015/16 at 29.28 MMT (incl. 19.75 MMT of wheat) compared with 30.95 MMT (19.88 MMT) in Jul 1-Mar 31 of 2014/15

CORN

- Mar 11 - Morocco's ONICL bought 149,500 MT of barley from the local market. It is the third tender in a government plan to subsidise 800,000 MT of barley to support farmers

- Malta bought at least 3,000 MT (up to 9,000 MT) of EU corn at around 163 €/mt c&f free out Malta for arrival in April-May

- India has received its first shipment of imported corn in 16 years, according to trade sources. The 40,000 MT cargo of non-genetically modified corn came from Ukraine

- US corn export inspections for week, ending Mar 10, reported 804,499 MT, in line with market expectations (750-900 TMT). Inspections for 2015/16 are running 19.3% behind year-ago

- Zimbabwean state stocks of maize were 91,326 MT as of March 10 - enough to last three months. Russia's Ag Min says Zimbabwe interested in increasing imports of corn and wheat from Russia

- Ukrainian farmers have sown 320,000 ha of early spring grain or 12% of the initial area as of March 14 vs. 155,000 ha (or 6%) as of Mar 13, 2015. Ukraine's Ag Min estimates spring barley planting 13% (or 252,000 ha) done

- Russian Ag Min estimated spring grain planting 1.2% done as of Mar 14. Russian farmers planted 614,000 ha of spring crops vs. 272,600 ha a year ago

SOYBEAN

- US soybean export inspections for week, ending Mar 10, reported 715,186 MT, matched trade forecasts that ranged from 650,000 to 1,000,000 MT. Inspections for the 2015/16 marketing year are running 6.6% behind year-ago

- Malaysia raised its crude palm oil export duty to 5% for April after 11 months of zero tax. Malaysia calculated a reference price of 2,500.34 MYR/mt for April. It imposes a CPO export tax of 4.5% to 8.5% when the reference price rises above 2,250 MYR/mt. It has maintained a zero tax rate since May 2015

- Surveyor Intertek Testing Services estimated Malaysia's Mar 1-15 palm oil exports at 451,499 MT up 10.55% from a month ago

- Surveyor SGS estimated Malaysia's Mar 1-15 palm oil exports at 415,686 MT down 1.1% from a month ago

- India imported 1.111 MMT of veg oils (edible & non-edible) in February vs. 1.258 MMT in January and vs. 868,167 MT a year ago

- India imported 5.09 MMT of edible veg oils in Nov-Feb 2015/16 vs. 4.203 MMT in the same period of 2014/15

- India imported 423,135 MT of crude palm oil in February vs. 530,081 MT in January and vs. 423,284 MT a year ago

- India imported 177,806 MT of RBD palmolein in February vs. 150,064 MT in January and vs. 80,667 MT a year ago

- India imported 380,121 MT of soybean oil in February vs. 441,200 MT in January and vs. 242,235 MT a year ago

- India imported 87,028 MT of sunflower oil in February vs. 118,000 MT in January and vs. 63,375 MT a year ago

- India imported 17,336 MT of rapeseed oil in February vs. 7,461 MT in January and 31,926 MT a year ago

- India's stock of edible oils as of March 1, 2016 at various ports is estimated at 910,000 MT (CPO 330,000 MT, RBD palmolein 170,000 MT, degummed soybean oil 320,000 MT, crude sunflower oil 70,000 MT and 20,000 MT of rapeseed (canola) oil) and about 1,450,000 MT in pipelines. Total stock at ports and in pipelines decreased to 2.36 MMT from 2.455 MMT a month ago, but above last year's 2.01 MMT. India's monthly requirement is about 1.65 MMT
