WHEAT

- Jan 21 - Japan seeks 132,432 MT of food wheat for Feb 21-Mar 20 shipment:

  • 12,720 MT of western white US wheat
  • 49,705 MT of hard red winter US wheat
  • 39,996 MT of dark northern spring US wheat
  • 30,011 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat

- Jan 19 - Russia bought 34,695 MT of intervention grain (all wheat) via tender on the NTB (Moscow Exchange). Making the total bought since Aug 20 at 1,375,110 MT of Russian grain (1,336,905 MT of wheat, 17,685 MT of rye and 20,520 MT of barley). Separately Russia bought 59,046 MT of Crimean wheat in intervention fund between Aug 19-Dec 29 via tenders on Crimean Exchange

- Russia is ready to increase grain exports to Iran

- Preliminary official data showed that Russia harvested 104.3 MMT of grain by clean weight in 2015, down from 105.3 MMT in 2014. The wheat harvest totaled 61.8 MMT in 2015, up from 59.7 MMT the previous year

- One of three ships due to deliver French wheat to Egypt left on Sunday night following weeks of delays, a sign that exports are resuming. A second cargo was due to start loading at the northern port of Dunkirk later on Monday

- AgroMarketInfo forecasts Spain's 2016 soft wheat crop at 5.585 MMT versus 5.161 MMT last year. So imports may fall from 4.075 MMT to 3.825 MMT

- Algeria's cereal production rose to 3.77 MMT in 2015 from 3.4 MMT the previous year

CORN

- Preliminary official data showed that Russia harvested a record high of 12.7 MMT of corn by clean weight in 2015, up from 11.3 MMT in 2014. Meanwhile barley crop in 2015 declined to 17.5 MMT from 20.4 MMT in 2014

- Zambia's current 2015/16 maize crop is expected to be at about 1.8 MMT, a third lower than the previous year due to severe drought in many parts of the country. Zambia's maize harvest dropped 21% to 2.6 MMT in 2014/15 versus the previous season

- AgroMarketInfo forecasts Spanish corn production will increase from 10.404 MMT to 10.927 MMT in 2016, and imports drop from 6.25 MMT to 5.80 MMT

- AgroMarketInfo forecasts Spanish barley crop to rise from 6.796 MMT to 7.431 MMT in 2016, and imports falling from 795 TMT to 550 TMT

- Saudi Arabia on Monday suspended the import of poultry, eggs and dairy products from seven French regions over a bird flu outbreak. Several countries including Japan and China have already banned French poultry imports

- India lifts ban on lentil linked to paralysis as Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeks self-sufficiency. Now the government has cleared three varieties of the khesari lentil banned in 1961, which can grow in dry or wet conditions

SOYBEAN

- Heavy rains are forecast in Brazil's center-west grain belt this week, meteorologists said, helping some newly cultivated areas to recover from last year's dry weather; but it also concerns farmers who are ready to harvest

- China reported its 2015 economic growth at 6.9 percent, the slowest in quarter of a century, that raised concerns over demand in the world's biggest soybean importer

- Preliminary official data showed that Russia harvested a record 2.64 MMT of soybeans by clean weight in 2015 (2.36 MMT in 2014), and increased sunflower output by 8.6% to 9.2 MMT (8.48 MMT). Meanwhile rapeseed crop declined to 1.01 MMT from 1.34 MMT in 2014

- India imported 1.419 MMT of veg oils (edible & non-edible) in December vs. 1.342 MMT in November and vs. 1.14 MMT a year ago

- India imported 2.74 MMT of edible veg oils in Nov -Dec 2015 vs. 2.273 MMT in the same period of 2014/15

- India imported 551,058 MT of crude palm oil in December vs. 627,404 MT in November and vs. 778,815 MT a year ago

- India imported 229,520 MT of RBD palmolein in December vs. 231,672 MT in November and vs. 45,031 MT a year ago

- India imported 490,718 MT of soybean oil in December vs. 261,836 MT in November and vs. 97,027 MT a year ago

- India imported 102,740 MT of sunflower oil in December vs. 177,658 MT in November and vs. 151,626 MT a year ago

- India imported 25,609 MT of rapeseed oil in December vs. 24,850 MT in November and 36,490 MT a year ago

- India's stock of edible oils as of January 1, 2016 at various ports is estimated at 1.11 MMT (CPO 520,000 MT, RBD Palmolein 200,000 MT, Degummed Soybean Oil 250,000 MT, Crude Sunflower Oil 100,000 MT and 40,000 MT of Rapeseed (Canola) Oil) and about 1,400,000 MT in pipelines. Total stock at ports and in pipelines climbed to 2.51 MMT from 2.43 MMT a month ago and vs. last year's 2.07 MMT. India's monthly requirement is about 1.6 MMT

- Malaysia says committed to B10 biodiesel despite low oil prices

- Iraq's Etihad Food Industries Co. will start production at a new $100 million edible oils refinery by year end. The edible oils plant will be able to process four types of oils - corn oil, sunflower oil, soybean oil, and palm oil - 3,000 MT a day with a refined oil storage capacity of 90,000 MT. Etihad said it would need to import around 1 MMT of crude edible oils a year to fulfill refining demand. Crude imports are set to start within 11 months
