WHEAT

- Jan 20 - Jordan seeks 100,000 MT of optional origin milling wheat

- Jan 13 - Tunisia bought 92,000 MT of soft milling wheat at 186.97 $/mt c&f on average for March-April shipment and 109,000 MT of durum at 280.68 $/mt c&f on average for Feb-June shipment

- Thailand bought 50,000 MT of US wheat for March shipment in recent deals. Spring wheat (14% protein) was sold at about 243 $/mt c&f, winter wheat at around 230 $/mt c&f and white wheat at 255 $/mt c&f

- Indonesian importers bought about 80,000 MT of Australian wheat. One cargo of 55,000 MT of Australian standard wheat was sold to a miller in Indonesia at around 210 $/mt fob for March arrival. The second cargo of about 25,000 MT was sold at 219 $/mt c&f

- Nidera lowered its forecast for Australia's 2015/16 wheat exports to 16-17 MMT (vs. 16.6 MMT in 2014/15), citing tough foreign competition and cheap global freight rates

- Ukraine's Ag Min said Ukraine exported 22.488 MMT of grain between July 1-Jan 14, 2015/16, up 11.6% from 20.154 MMT for the same period last year, including:

  • wheat – 10.634 MMT (vs. 8.352 MMT a year ago)
  • barley – 3.916 MMT (vs. 3.719 MMT)
  • corn – 7.806 MMT (vs. 7.853 MMT)
  • others – 132 TMT (199 TMT)

- EU in week ended January 12 granted licenses to export 754 TMT of soft wheat, bringing the total this season to 13.512 MMT vs. 14.773 MMT a year ago

- EU in week ended January 8 awarded licenses to import 295,441 MT of Ukrainian wheat under an annual duty-free quota. The award meant that the EU had now awarded 31.1% out of a total volume of 950,000 MT available in 2016

- Weekly US wheat export sales data for week ended January 7 of 290,700 MT, incl. 274,700 MT for 2015/16 were within analysts' expectations (150-350 TMT). Total current marketing-year US wheat export sales are 15% behind the same point last year

- Kazakhstan expects to export 7.5 MMT of grain in 2015/16, up from 7.0 MMT estimated previously and 6.444 MMT in 2014/15

- Kazakhstan's grain stocks as of January 1, 2016 accounted 13.455 MMT, including 9.701 MMT of milling wheat vs. 13.099 MMT (incl. 9.657 MMT of milling wheat) a year ago

- Rosario Grains Exchange left its 2015/16 Argentine wheat crop estimate unchanged this month at 9.6 MMT

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange maintains its 2015/16 Argentine wheat crop estimate at 10.1 MMT, down 14% from 2014/15 crop (11.75 MMT). Harvesting of Argentine wheat crop was 94.4% completed as of Jan 14, behind of last year's pace of 100%

- Vietnam's 2016 rice exports seen flat at 6.5 MMT vs. 6.57 MMT in 2015

CORN

- Jan 14 - USDA announced export sales of 102,100 MT of US corn for delivery to Mexico during 2015/16

- Jan 14 - Jordan bought 50,000 MT of optional origin feed barley from Midgulf International at 199 $/mt c&f for shipment in the second half of February

- Jan 13 - Tunisia bought 50 MT of feed barley at 179.13 $/mt c&f on average for Feb-March shipment

- South African ag minister said that country needed to import between 5-6 MMT of maize from May. South African Weather Service officially reported 2015 as the driest calendar year since national record-keeping began in 1904, with rains about one-third below normal. Late rains bring some hope to South Africa's parched maize belt

- Weekly US corn export sales data for week ended Jan 7 of 669,200 MT for 2015/16 were slightly above market forecasts ranging from 400 to 650 TMT. Total current marketing-year US corn export sales are 25% behind the same point last year

- EU in week ended Jan 12 awarded 243 TMT of corn (maize) import certificates, taking the volume so far this season to 7.173 MMT vs. 4.143 MMT a year ago

- EU in week ended Jan 12 granted licenses to export 30 TMT of corn, bringing the total this season to 918 TMT vs. 1.377 MMT a year ago

- EU will award all of the 539,000 MT of corn initially available under its 2016 duty-free import quotas. Both an annual tariff-free quota to import 400,000 MT of corn from Ukraine, and a half-year quota to import 138,994 MT of any origin corn were overbid in a first round last week

- EU in week ended Jan 12 granted licenses to export 163 TMT of barley, bringing the total this season to 5.763 MMT vs. 4.298 MMT a year ago

- Rosario Grains Exchange estimated Argentina's 2015/16 corn crop at 23.8 MMT, up from its previous forecast of 20.2 MMT

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange estimated Argentine corn planting 89.4% done as of Jan 14 vs. 87.8% a year ago. The exchange raised its estimate of corn planting area to 3.1 mln ha from 2.85 mln ha previously, but still down vs. 3.4 mln ha in 2014/15

- Weekly US soybean export sales data for week ended Jan 7 of 1,127,500 MT, incl. 1,127,400 MT for 2015/16 were within market expectation (900-1,300 TMT). Total current marketing-year US soybean export sales are 11% behind the same point last year

- Safras & Mercado says Brazilian farmers have sold 49% of new crop soybeans forward compared to 39% a year ago

- Safras & Mercado trims its Brazil's soybean crop estimate to 99.8 MMT from 100.4 MMT

- Rosario Grains Exchange remained its 2015/16 Argentine soybean crop estimate steady this month at 55.0 MMT

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange estimated Argentine soybean planting 96.5% done as of Jan 14 vs. 96.5% a year ago. The exchange estimated soybean planting area at 20.1 mln ha, above than 20 mln ha in 2014/15

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange forecasts 2015/16 Argentine sunflower crop at 2.3 MMT, down 8% from 2014/15 crop (2.5 MMT). Harvesting of Argentine sunseed crop was 14.1% completed as of Jan 14, ahead of last year's pace of 8%

- Malaysia will maintain its crude palm oil export tax at zero for the tenth consecutive month in February

- Surveyor SGS estimated Malaysia's Jan 1-15 palm oil exports at 489,468 MT up 5.6% from a month ago
