WHEAT

- Jan 8 - South Korea's Daehan Flour Mill Co Ltd seeks 83,200 MT of wheat (30,100 MT of Canadian wheat for arrival in May and 53,100 MT of US wheat for April 20-May 20 arrival):

  • 30,100 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat (min. 13.5% protein)
  • 23,700 MT of US western white/soft white wheat (max. 10.5% protein)
  • 3,100 MT of US western white/soft white wheat (max. 8.5% protein)
  • 6,500 MT of US hard red winter wheat (min. 11.5% protein)
  • 19,800 MT of US dark/northern spring wheat (min. 14.0% protein)

- Jan 7 - Jordan has made no purchase in an international tender to buy 100,000 MT of milling wheat

- EU in week ended January 5 granted licenses to export 369 TMT of soft wheat, bringing the total this season to 12.758 MMT vs. 14.577 MMT a year ago

- Weekly US wheat export sales data for week ended December 31 of 76,500 MT for 2015/16 were a marketing year low that fell below analysts' expectations (200-400 TMT). Total current marketing-year US wheat export sales are 15% behind the same point last year

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange raised its 2015/16 Argentine wheat crop forecast to 10.1 MMT compared with a previous estimate of 9.5 MMT due to higher-than-expected yields, but still down 14% from 2014/15 crop (11.75 MMT). Harvesting of Argentine wheat crop was 87% completed as of Jan 7, behind of last year's pace of 95.9%

- Kazakhstan exported 4.192 MMT of grain between July 1 and Dec 31, up 644 TMT from this point last year. The country is expected to ship 7 MMT of grain this marketing year versus 6.444 MMT in 2014/15

- India says it will launch its first major crop damage insurance programs scheme with the start of the new fiscal year on April 1

CORN

- Indian PEC has postponed the offer deadline in an international tender to purchase and import 320,000 MT of yellow corn from Jan 11 to Jan 13 and now offers must remain valid up to January 18

- FC Stone estimates first corn crop in Brazil at 27.9 MMT and second crop at 53.3 MMT for total 81.2 MMT

- Weekly US corn export sales data for week ended Dec 31 of 252,900 MT for 2015/16 were well below the market forecasts ranging from 400 to 600 TMT. Total current marketing-year US corn export sales are 25% behind the same point last year

- EU in week ended Jan 5 awarded 367 TMT of corn (maize) import certificates, taking the volume so far this season to 6.93 MMT vs. 3.936 MMT a year ago

- EU in week ended Jan 5 granted licenses to export 1 TMT of corn, bringing the total this season to 889 TMT vs. 1.348 MMT a year ago

- EU in week ended Jan 5 granted licenses to export 59 TMT of barley, bringing the total this season to 5.599 MMT vs. 4.269 MMT a year ago

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange estimated Argentine corn planting 83.3% done as of Jan 7 vs. 80.9% a year ago. The exchange estimated corn planting area at 2.85 mln ha down vs. 3.4 mln ha in 2014/15

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange forecasts 2015/16 Argentine barley crop at 4.3 MMT, a 50% growth from 2014/15 (2.85 MMT). Harvesting of Argentine barley crop was 73.1% completed as of Jan 7, well behind of last year's pace of 100%

SOYBEAN

- Jan 7 - USDA announced export sales of 246,000 MT of US soybeans for delivery to China during 2015/16

- Weekly US soybean export sales data for week ended Dec 31 of 638,800 MT, incl. 638,700 MT for 2015/16 were within market expectation (400-700 TMT). Total current marketing-year US soybean export sales are 11% behind the same point last year

- CNGOIC revised upward China's 2015/16 (Oct-Sep) soy imports to 80 MMT, up 2.1% from 2014/15 (78.36 MMT) due to higher-than-expected crushing demand

- FC Stone estimates Brazil's 2015/16 soybean crop at 97.8 MMT this month, down from 98.8 MMT in December

- USDA's attaché in Brazil lowered its 2015/16 soybean crop estimate by 500 TMT to 98 MMT

- AGR Brasil estimates country's 2015/16 soybean crop at 101.1 MMT this month, up 500 TMT from last month

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange estimated Argentine soybean planting 92.9% done as of Jan 7 vs. 93.5% a year ago. The exchange estimated soybean planting area at 20.1 mln ha above than 20 mln ha in 2014/15

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange forecasts 2015/16 Argentine sunflower crop at 2.3 MMT, down 8% from 2014/15 crop (2.5 MMT). Harvesting of Argentine sunseed crop was 9.4% completed as of Jan 7, ahead of last year's pace of 5.9%

- India exports around 60 TMT of oilmeals in December down 85% from a year ago, with Apr-Dec 2015 protein meal exports totaling 963,442 MT down 48% against 1,862,283 MT during the same period of 2014. Rapeseed meal export is also reduced to 1/3rd of last year. Export of Soybean meal during December stood at 5,667 MT down 97% compared to 194,012 MT in Dec 2014, with Apr-Dec 2015 soybean meal export has touched a historical low at 61,556 MT down 86% from 444,736 MT in the same period last year
