WHEAT

- Russian wheat was offered lowest at 254 $/mt c&f free out in the Iraq's tender to buy at least 50,000 MT of hard wheat. The tender closed on Sunday, Oct 18, and offers must remain valid up to Oct 22. The lowest offer for US wheat was made at around 256 $/mt c&f free out, with Australian and Canadian origin – at around 262 $/mt c&f free out

- Bangladesh has rejected a 20,000-tonne cargo of French wheat as the grain failed to match tender specifications

- Oct 20 - Jordan canceled tender to buy 100,000 MT of optional origin hard wheat

- UK farm ministry estimated this year's wheat crop at 16.171 MMT, down 2.6% from last season though marginally above an estimate of 16.129 MMT issued earlier this month

- Ukraine's winter wheat acreage could shrink by more than 10% to 5.4-5.5 mln ha from planned area of 6.2 mln ha because of a severe drought, though recent rain may help weak crops survive the approaching winter

CORN

- Oct 21 - Japan received no offers for 120,000 MT of feed wheat and 200,000 MT of feed barley in a simultaneous buy and sell (SBS) auction. New SBS tender for the same amounts for each grain will be held on Oct 28

- Safras e Mercado said Brazil's first (summer) corn crop is 53.8% planted vs. 41.9% a year ago

- Japan's use of corn in animal feed rose to 45.7% in August from 45% year-ago (but slightly down from 45.8% in July), as use of alternative feedgrains such as sorghum, wheat and barley decreased
