- Ukraine's ag ministry and traders' unions did not sign a memorandum that would have set the amount of grain available for export during 2015/16. The failed memorandum would have allowed exports of around 36 MMT, including 16.5 MMT of wheat

- Ukrainian grain stocks were at 25.77 MMT as of October 1, up 10% from a year earlier, incl. 17.19 MMT of wheat (13.62 MMT a year ago), 3.26 MMT of barley (3.43 MMT a year ago) and 3.66 MMT of corn (4.78 MMT a year ago). The data does not include grain stored at small farms

- Ukrainian farmers have planted winter wheat on 4.93 mln ha (80% of plan) as of Oct 15 vs. 5.74 mln ha a year ago

- EU in week ended October 13 granted licenses to export 415 TMT of soft wheat, bringing the total this season to 6.193 MMT vs. 7.474 MMT a year ago

- FranceAgriMer estimated soft wheat planting 39% done as of Oct 12, ahead of last year's pace of 31%; durum planting 1% done

- FranceAgriMer raised its estimate of 2015 French soft wheat crop by 291,000 MT to a record-large 41.0 MMT; also increased its forecast for soft wheat exports outside the EU to 11.5 MMT for 2015/16, up 500,000 MT from its peg last month and just above last year's 11.4 MMT. FranceAgriMer forecasts ending stocks at 4.77 MMT in 2015/16 (5.04 MMT – previous) vs. 2.52 MMT in 2014/15

- Strategie Grains raised its estimate of this year's soft wheat harvest in the EU by 2 MMT to a record 149.5 MMT (vs. 149.1 MMT in 2014/15) due to better than expected crops in the Baltic States, France, Britain and Germany. The higher crop estimate, a reduction in expected feed and export demand and an increase in expected imports all contributed to the hefty EU's 2015/16 soft wheat stocks – at 18.4 MMT, up 2 MMT from the previous estimate and up 4.9 MMT from 2014/15

- Strategie Grains initially estimated 2016 cereals area at 57.4 million hectares, up from 57.2 mln ha in 2015, with soft wheat down slightly to 24.0 mln ha (24.1 mln ha in 2015), and corn acreage steady with last year, while plantings of both winter and spring barley and durum wheat will increase

- Russia's prospects for boosting state grains stocks seen weaker than previously expected as an increase in domestic grain prices has made recently approved higher state prices (rise by 1000 RUR/mt) less competetive

- SovEcon lowered its forecast of Russia's 2015/16 grain exports by 1 MMT to 30 MMT, incl. 22 MMT of wheat, 4.1 MMT of barley and 3.5 MMT of corn

- Russian farmers have planted 87.9% (or 15 mln ha) of winter crops as of Oct 15 vs. 15.8 mln ha year ago

- Rosario Grains Exchange estimated Argentina's 2015/16 wheat production at 9.3 MMT

- Kazakhstan's Ag Min said Kazakhstan harvested 19.436 MMT (from 99.2% area) as of Oct 16, up from 15.49 MMT a year ago. Yields were at 1.33 mt/ha, up from 1.23 mt/ha a year ago

CORN

- Taiwan bought 3 cargos of Brazilian corn and one of US corn for Feb-April shipment

- South Korea's Kocopia bought 55,000 MT of corn, probably from Brazil, at just under 190 $/mt c&f for February shipment

- Brazil's October corn exports could top record August corn exports of 4.6 MMT

- EU in week ended Oct 13 granted licenses to export 26 TMT of corn, bringing the total this season to 509 TMT vs. 598 TMT a year ago

- EU in week ended Oct 13 awarded 185 TMT of corn (maize) import certificates, taking the volume so far this season to 1.99 MMT vs. 2.387 MMT a year ago

- FranceAgriMer said 56% of France's corn crops were in good to excellent condition as of Oct 12, unchanged from the prior week, but still well below vs. 87% a year ago. Harvesting of French corn crop was 38% completed as of Oct 12, well ahead of last year's pace of 15%

- FranceAgriMer forecasts France's 2015/16 corn crop at 13.02 MMT (13.26 MMT – previous estimate) vs. 2014/15 record crop of 17.95 MMT with the carryout projected at 2.34 MMT (2.58 MMT – previous) against 2.96 MMT in 2014/15. France's 2015/16 corn exports is forecasted at 5.71 MMT (5.61 MMT – previous) vs. 8.26 MMT year ago

- Strategie Grains raised its estimate of EU's 2015 corn harvest by 200,000 MT to 57.6 MMT, still 24% below last year (75.9 MMT in 2014)

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange estimated corn planting 27.5% done as of Oct 15 vs. 30% a year ago. The exchange forecasts country's corn planting area at 2.72 mln ha this year vs. 3.4 mln ha in 2014/15

- China is set to resume building new corn-based ethanol plants after a nearly decade-long ban, in a move that could help absorb the country's record stocks. China's state corn stocks are expected to climb further after the 2015/16 state stockpile scheme ends in April 2016. The government currently holds more than 150 MMT of corn

- JC Intelligence Co. Ltd estimated between 20-30 MMT of corn were too mouldy to be used for animal feed

- Local Brazilian analysts Datagro estimated the country's ethanol production in 2015/16 at a record 30.45 billion liters, up from 28.49 billion in 2014/15

- US Ethanol production for the week ended Oct 9 decreased by 1,000 barrels to 949,000 barrels per day, it is up 7.2% from last year's level (885,000 bpd). Stocks rose by 144,000 barrels to 18.956 million barrels, up 3.3% vs. 18.356 million barrels a year ago

BARLEY

- EU in week ended Oct 13 granted licenses to export 170 TMT of barley, bringing the total this season to 3.837 MMT vs. 2.462 TMT a year ago

- FranceAgriMer estimated winter barley planting 61% done as of Oct 12, ahead of last year's pace of 50%

- FranceAgriMer raised its estimate of France's 2015/16 barley crop to 12.53 MMT (12.43 MMT – previous) vs. 11.67 MMT in 2014/15 with the carryout projected at 1.72 MMT (1.6 MMT – previous) against 0.96 MMT in 2014/15. France's 2015/16 barley exports is forecasted at 6.78 MMT (6.62 MMT – previous) vs. 6.65 MMT year ago

- Strategie Grains raised its estimate of EU's 2015 barley crop by 200,000 MT to 60.6 MMT, now above last year's level (60.4 MMT in 2014)

SOYBEANS

- NOPA said its members crushed 126.704 million bushels of soybeans in September 2015, the largest Sept crush since 2007, down from 135.304 million bu the previous month, but up 26.7% from the 99.97 million bu crushed in the same month last year. The figure below an average of analyst estimates for 129.24 million bu. Soyoil stocks fell to 1.355 billion lbs as of Sept 30 from 1.48 a month earlier, below expectations of 1.396 billion lbs, but above last year's level of 936.880 million lbs. Soymeal exports in September totaled 502,300 MT, up from 491,510 MT a month ago and vs. 308,515 MT a year ago

- Rosario Grains Exchange says Argentine farmers are expected to sow 20.5 mln ha with soybeans in the 2015/16 season, up from 20.2 mln ha in the previous crop year

- USDA attaché in India estimated India's 2015/16 soybean output at 11.0 MMT vs. previous estimate of 12.5 MMT

- Malaysia will keep its crude palm oil export tax for November at a zero for a seventh straight month

- Buenos Aires Grain Exchange estimated sunflower planting 29.3% done as of Oct 15, up 3.6% on the week, and vs. 26.5% a year ago. The exchange forecasts country's sunflower planting area at 1.45 mln ha this year vs. 1.3 mln ha in 2014/15

- Ukrainian sunflower seed stocks were at 6.49 MMT as of October 1, up 4.6% from a year earlier (6.21 MMT). The data does not include sunseed stored at small farms

- USDA attaché in India expects that oilmeal exports in MY 2015/16 will reach their second lowest point during the past 10 years (3.3 MMT)
